Your challenge is to use the color blue
and create two designs.

For this challenge,
you will be working in teams of two.

I'd rather just do it myself.

I'm a little worried

we're not going to be sending
finished garments down the runway.

Irina, you are the winner of this challenge.

This truly looks like
a bridesmaid's dress

with a shower loofah
ruched up the front of it.

Louise, you're out.

This is Project Runway.

Of course I'm the best.

The search for the next
big fashion designer.

- I have to win.

This is my dream.

For these 16 designers,

Project Runway
is the chance of a lifetime.

The winner of Project Runway will receive

a fashion spread
in marie claire magazine,

a Paris vacation courtesy of Evian,

and $100,000 from L'Oréal Paris
to start their own line.

It's just sad to see
someone who's so talented leave.

You know, we've reached that point,
and it's just gonna be sad from now on.

People aren't going home
for lack of talent, that's for sure.

I came to America with nothing.

Now I have everything.
I don't want to be in a position

where I'm older, and I'm, like,

why didn't I ever try something,
you know?

I'm, like, if I lose everything,
at least I have my health.

I think the rest of the group isn't too happy

about me winning two challenges
at this point

because a lot of them haven't won any

or been in the top, for that matter.

I probably don't want to know,
actually.

Irina seems to have
this more sophisticated taste

that's been appealing to the judges.

I think that winning a few challenges
and not really being in the bottom

has boosted her confidence up,

and she almost feels like
she's better than a lot of us.

it's really very, very important

for me to pick myself back up.

I really have to be extra creative
and extra particular with this

because I can't be in the bottom again.

I've been dreading a wedding challenge

this whole competition.

And the ladies are so out there
in their looks.

I don't even know, like,
what to expect at this point.

As you can see, these women
are in their wedding dresses.

But they're not preparing
to walk down the aisle.

In fact, they already have.

All of these women
are recently divorced

and want to turn
these wedding dresses

into hip, cool outfits

that they can wear in
the next chapter of their lives.

So it's going to be
your job to make that happen.

First, let's meet them.

Hi. I'm Leah,
and I've been divorced for three months.

Congratulations.

Hi, I'm Beverly, and I filed a petition
almost eight months ago.

Hi, I'm Charlie,
and I've been free for six months.

Hi, I'm Annie.
I've been divorced for 16 years.

Marilyn. And I've
been divorced one year.

Hi, I'm Melissa, and I've been
in the process for three months.

Hi, I'm Lisa.
I've been divorced for two months.

I'm Stephanie,
and I got divorced 14 years ago.

And if you're lucky enough

I ended up picking Robin,

who had the biggest dress possible.

There was, like, about 5 tons of acrylic.

You know, it's acrylic lace
and acrylic lining and acetate.

So, um, it should be fun
and crunchy cutting it.

It's not a lot of dress.

It's probably, like, 2 yards total.

I realize it's 100% polyester,

which means that I won't
even be able to dye it.

And if I do dye it,
it's not gonna look good.

Designers, while you're still sketching,

I wanted to give you
a nice announcement.

The winner of this challenge
will have immunity.

It is the last immunity for
the duration of the challenges.

And you have until midnight tonight
to complete your look.

I need to represent myself as a designer,

and plus meet the expectations of Annie.

Can we take it and just, like,
totally wreck it

and make it, like, more punk rock or...

You know what I mean?

I want something fabulous.
Like, I'm a performer.

Something super fly, funky.
And, like, I like to shimmy.

I don't want anything that's gonna
be real full, that comes way out.

I wanna kind of keep it
streamlined and within here.

and I'm trying to give Charlie

But, at the same time,
there's no way.

'cause I don't want to get kicked off.

I don't wanna make a Cher costume.

And third, I can't make a Cher costume

with a yard and a half of
white fabric that I can't dye.

It's impossible.

and then anything else
you need for this challenge.

For these challenges,
you have to go along with it.

We can only buy up to 2 yards,

so this is pretty limiting, you know?

They're trying to get us to use

as much of the wedding dress
as possible.

I found this really great wool.

The yardage is actually super wide.

So in a yard and a half,
I can make a pair of pants out of it.

[Shirin] Oh, my gosh! She's
gonna look like a big peacock!

I can't believe this!
[Laughs]

She really wants a Cher dress

with a headdress and, like,
peacock feathers everywhere.

[Scoffs]
I just grabbed whatever I could,

and I figured I can make it work later.

[Carol Hannah] I make most of my
living making wedding dresses,

so to chop one up is kind of, like,

running into a church
and swearing at the top of your lungs.

I think the whole concept

of, you know, turning your old
wedding gown into something new

so you can move forward in life
is sort of empowering.

That's awesome.

I was married before.

I got divorced.

When I came into this challenge,

I knew that I needed
to be mentally strong.

I needed to focus
on what I'm here to do.

I have children.
I know that they're fine.

But on the other hand, it's so hard

to be so disconnected
for your normal daily life.

Today's Saturday, so, hopefully,

I will have opportunity to talk to them,

because I have not spoken
to them since I came here.

It's me. I just miss you guys so much.

I mean, I know I'm crying,
but everything is okay.

I'm having a great time.

I just thought of the kids,

I didn't know I would be
so emotional about this.

I mean, it's kind of embarrassing.

Sometime, our emotions
get triggered, you know,

by things that we don't
consciously think about.

And maybe in this challenge,
I got a little bit triggered

by all this, so...

I'm planning to use

as least amount
of that dress as possible.

You know, you won't even know

that it has anything to do
with her wedding dress.

I just want her to just feel
proud to wear a new look.

It's so awful.

Looks like a bad Vegas outfit.

I'm just really stuck, and it stinks,

because it's hard to show design
when you don't have any fabric.

At this point, I just gotta
find a way out of this.

This worries me.

I think they look like
you just put them on.

Right now I'm feeling
really stuck and helpless.

This is the last challenge

that anyone can get immunity,

so everybody seems
like they're going nuts.

A lot of people are dying
just because it's white.

You know, there's only so much
you can do with white.

So how is everyone?

- [Christopher] Hey, Tim.
- [Epperson] Great.

- [Tim] Really?
- Stressed.

That doesn't sound convincing.

That sounds right... stressed.

- Stressed.
- Yeah.

I'm gonna make some rounds, okay?

- [Gordana] Yeah, that's fine.

I know, I know.
And I knew you'd say that right away.

- This is not the end.

I wanted to do a black and white

kind of a sophisticated
little dress for her to go out

to functions in and be able
to meet new people.

So this is really infrastructure.

Yeah. No, that's it.
It's not supposed to be seen.

It finishes by
kind of bubbling under there.

And then, with that lace, I did a belt.

And this kind of comes away
from the body a little bit.

She wanted a shorter skirt.

Really? You don't want her
to look like a cougar.

I said, "You're gonna meet
the wrong kind of people."

Yeah, that's exactly right.

My idea was to use

- has to be from the wedding dress.

'cause I was gonna do a short jacket.

Kind of a play on a tuxedo-style feel.

- I just... This worries me.

way too much textile.

I mean, the dominant textile
doesn't come from the dress.

Okay. Logan, just figure this out.

and I'm kind of, like,
feathering the edges.

as far as you can,

and I just want you
to keep saying to yourself,

as a designer in this.

take each of these textiles out

and just play like it's
a big, giant paper doll.

and they're all kind of complicated.

And just getting that much work
done at once is kind of a hurdle.

and make it look like something else
other than a wedding dress.

And the only thing
I could think of to do is use thread.

showed Stephanie how to walk.

It's gonna be a very
interesting runway day.

If I end up going home,
I'm not gonna be happy about it,

to seeing what you've done.

The dress turned out really great.

Robin was glowing.

The dress was shimmering.

She looked like Cinderella.

I know that I've nailed it.

Seeing my dress on the runway,

it's not exactly
what I would've wanted,

but at least this dress
has a hint of me in it.

I'm really happy
there aren't peacock feathers

coming out of her butt,

because that's pretty much
what she wanted.

Leah is definitely confident.

I'm happy to see her feeling good,

but at the same time,
I'm analyzing everything that I did.

I just want to put my head
in a hole in the ground

and hide from this one.

I feel really great
when Lisa comes down the runway.

This is such a hot little dress.

She wanted something strapless.

She wanted something short
to show off her legs.

I'm happy,
and I think she is, too.

Seeing my dress on the runway
made me feel good.

Marilyn... she's skipping
down the runway in it.

It's girly a little bit.
And she's unique in a blue dress.

I think what I created
was a hideous thing.

But you can't wake up every day

and do gorgeous gowns
and c*ck dresses.

It might not be my favorite outfit
in the world that I've made,

but if it makes her happy,
I'm happy for her.

I love my garment
coming down the runway.

The color is beautiful.

Annie looks very comfortable in it.

And the whole look is great.

So I really like it.

This is probably
the most fun runway ever.

I really like my piece,
so I hope it's in the top.

I innovatively used the materials,

and this really does speak
to who I am as a designer.

After changing my idea
from my original

and going towards another direction,

I'm pleased with
how my design came out.

So I feel really good,
and I feel confident.

I wanted to create something
that represents me,

but I also wanted her
to feel herself.

I used only the lining of the dress.

This dress is edgy and chic,

- but it also does great things for her body.
- Yeah.

It's a very, very
flattering-shaped dress.

[Tamara]
I love the frame.

I love the slight
asymmetrical neckline.

Annie, what do you think?

I love it. She really listened

to what I was trying
to get across to her.

When she saw the dress,
she just lit up,

and that, to me,
was the best gift ever.

You did a good job this time.

Beverly is an actress,
and she's going to industry parties

she's going to premieres,
and I wanted to give her something

chic and sophisticated
that she could network in.

And so, I took the organza,
and I dyed it,

and I created this garment for her.

I think it was clever
what you did with the organza.

I think it's a very pretty metallic.

But there's too much volume,
too much crumple.

You're an actress.
You want to get noticed,

but you don't want to be
on the worst-dressed list.

Do not go to an industry function.

Don't.

I mean, she just looks like tinfoil.

It's volume on top,
volume on bottom,

and then cinched in the middle.

It's like a metallic Hefty bag, just cinched.

Okay.

I had "Space bubble dress"
written down.

[Heidi]

Epperson, tell us about your look.

My whole idea was really

to just get rid of the whole
other dress altogether.

And then I realized that the assignment

was to actually work with the dress.

I thought I made myself very clear
when I gave you guys the challenge.

Work with the wedding dress.
That was the challenge.

What I would like to know from Melissa
is what you've asked for.

I like something kind of flowy
and something fitted in the waist.

So you did not specifically ask
for Oktoberfest?

When this came out,
I'm like, "Oh, my God.

She's going to Germany
to the Oktoberfest."

Heidi went with Oktoberfest.
I'm going with pirate's wench.

This looks like something

I would pull out of
my daughter's dressing-up box.

[Michael]
When we're dressing real women,

you wanna make them look longer,
leaner, sexier,

and I think the dress just
doesn't do that for her at all.

I would also think about
the first date you have.

He's waiting at the bar,
and you come in in this dress.

He's leaving.

[Heidi]
I think he might.

Shirin, tell us about your look.

So I decided to stitch the fabric
so it wouldn't just be a white.

It would be more of a pattern.

It's a little safe for me,

but it's a beautiful dress.

I love this dress on her.

It really suits your body.

The length, the geometric lines
are right on trend.

Leah didn't want a dress
and she didn't want a skirt,

so my direction
went to trousers and vest

to try to dress it up a little bit.

I have an Oktoberfest moment
yet again.

I mean, I'm speechless.

I don't know what to say.
Leah, do you like your outfit?

- Yes.
- Where would you wear it to?

For your first date?

Maybe second.

I just wish it'd been ex*cuted better.

It's very amateur.
Did you notice the cuff?

[Michael] It looks like she was
in the middle of her fitting,

and the phone rang
and she had to run out.

And the top is so unflattering.

That neckline is just making her look
kind of like an opera singer.

It's a difficult challenge because
you have to please your client,

yet you also have to try
and coax her into something

that she's gonna look good in.

This, to me, is a tragedy.

Irina,

will you just tell us what is
the actual wedding dress?

The only new material
is actually this satin,

which I used for the lining.

The lace is all from the dress.

I am very impressed.
You did a really clever makeover.

You shed her skin, you know?

And you've got this new one. It's brilliant.

The color is incredibly chic,
and it's age-appropriate.

And you walked out, and you own it.

I mean, you own it.

the designers that we did like.

- Shirin.
- You know, she thought about her client

and she put her in something
that she looked good in.

From where it started off
as a Cher hybrid,

and she ended up looking
really cute and really chic.

Which is clever of her that she said,

"No, I'm the designer,
and this is not gonna go over well."

And the stitching that she
created that pattern with

really gave it a little bit of a twist.

- Gordana.
She managed to create

a really elegant dress
that still had some edge.

It was versatile as well

because she could rock it out
with the boots,

and then she could've taken it
to an evening event with some pumps.

It's also very nice to see
Gordana not to be so safe.

This time she pushed the envelope,
and her client loved it.

I love what Irina did.

She showed that you can actually
make a beautiful dress out of lace.

Everything from top to toe...

hair and makeup, accessories...
worked perfectly.

It was sexy but age-appropriate.

It looked totally sleek
and professional.

Okay, let's talk about
the ones that we didn't like.

First off, I don't even know
if Epperson understood

- what this challenge was ultimately about.
- I agree. I don't think he did.

He chose masses of fabric.

It swallowed her
and just was disproportionate.

Women should not look like that
going to some... a themed party...

When there's no theme.

- Logan. A lot went wrong over here as well.
- [Whistles]

Let's be honest, would that trouser
be in any woman's closet?

[Tamara] You would never put
that on and feel attractive.

And then the Oktoberfest vest,
which that ruffling

- made her look so matronly.
- Fat.

I also really didn't see
anything of Logan in here.

She said, "Here's what I want,"

and he was like,
"It's not what I like, but I'll do it."

Christopher.

Ooh!

- Worst-dressed list?
- Oh, worst dressed.

- It doesn't even look like a dress.
- It's too much.

- Well, it was a crush overload.
- It was too short for her.

This really did look like
a metallic garbage bag tied in the middle.
