When I first heard about the reunion I had some reservations.

I had some mixed emotions about, you know, coming back into it.

But, it was kinda like, whoa, I gotta go back a year now

and-and remember what this was like.

That we're all slowly going off now

on our own directions and, uh, and yeah we still have somewhere

some common place that we can come back to.

I was really nervous about the reunion.

[Norman] This is the true story.. True story.

[Julie] Of seven strangers.

[Becky] Picked to live in a loft.

[Kevin] And have their lives taped.

[Andre] To find out what happens.

[Heather] What? When people stop being polite.

Could you get the phone?

[Eric] And start getting real.

"The Real World."

Well, I think everyone knows what Eric's been doing.

He's been grinding.

[upbeat music]

♪ Everybody dance now ♪♪

No, I-I-I don't watch "The Grind."

I still am unemployed, Eric. So, if you do need someone

to work on your shows, you know, you can always

count on me.

What's up?

- What's up, Eric. - Look at you.

You look so good.

Eric, I'm skinny.

Heather, you like, you like, you must've lost like pounds.

- Oh, serious? - You look good.

Don't sweat on me.

[Heather] Eric, you know, like I said, we had problems in the beginning.

but right now, I give Eric his credit.

You know, he took it, and he ran with it.

- Heather B. "The Real World." - Shut up.

Reunion is in effect.

Yo, we gotta find out, what's up with the single

and what's going on with the record in the spring.

So, give us a little information.

Alright, um, well, thanks to everybody out there.

Especially, the DJ's. "I Get Wrecked"

my single that's out is blowin' up so, I'm good about that.

And uh, I'm just bugging, I'm all over tryin' to bug up.

I'm tryin' to be like you, Eric.

[Eric] I really don't know exactly what she was doing.

I don't know what's going on with her acting

or anything like that, her dancing.

♪ Who can turn the world on with her smile? ♪

♪ Who can take a nothing day ♪

♪ And suddenly make it all seem worthwhile? ♪♪

[Julie] After the show started airing..

Everybody, you know, was this big rush.

So I thought, well, God, you know..

Maybe I shouldn't be dancin' this much.

That I should be pushing acting.

So I kinda slacked off from dancing.

That was just never satisfying.

So I went back and started dancing a lot.

And now I'm on scholarship at Steps.

And that's just been wonderful for me.

[upbeat music]

[Julie] I feel really close to Eric, but he hurts my feelings a lot.

But, I know that he doesn't mean to and that's hard, just for me.

When I call him, he won't call me back.

You know, those sorts of things.

The fact that I never see him, I never talk to him

that's...I don't much care for that.

The reason I feel uncomfortable is because

it's like, you know, some people, some of us

have things going on and others of us don't.

And I don't think that it's right to bring something out

like my career, that I'm doing so good in, in front of somebody

who I shared my life with for three months

and make them feel uncomfortable.

You talkin' to Julie?

I called Julie the other day and we played phone tag a lot.

So, I don't talk to her much.

'But, I haven't talked to anyone.'

Becky, I don't talk to Becky since the day we left.

I'll be totally honest with you, the whole three months

while I was in there, I kinda felt

some kind of..

...like, heat being pushed my way from everybody.

I'm not going to argue, if that's how you, if-if arguments

start breaking out and there is a bad vibe in there

I'm out.

Can't we all just get along?

[chuckles]

It was one thing to walk into the door the first time

because none of us knew what was going on.

And you know, you really didn't know what to expect.

It was lot harder to walk into the door the second time

and know who's gonna be there.

Know that a camera was gonna be on you.

To know these things before hand, it made it..

...made it pretty hard.

[instrumental music]

[Andre] I love everybody and I, and I definitely plan

to see you after Sunday..

[Heather] Who here is r*cist?

[Norman] Everyone should be attracted to Eric.

Forget dogs, cats, men, women..

[Kevin] You got it, man. No disrespect.

[Becky] I'm really nervous for sure.

[Heather] Do you think of when I'm saying is crap a lot--

Honey, what you're saying is crap.

[Heather] 'Oh, Lord, you brought that damn dog back here.'

Get off of my white things.

Hi, Dewey..

I decided to do it because I haven't been it like, yeah

you know, this would probably be one of the few times

that the seven of us ever do get together.

Ever since, you know "The Real World" came out

everybody's career kinda took off in their own

separate ways, so I know that..

I knew that there was gonna be a little tension.

[door closes]

[Kevin] I think a lot of people were, um, a little weary

or camera shy at first because we know

now, from the um, response to "The Real World"

how-how, um, powerful this medium is.

This television medium is.

[Bon Jovi's "Keep the faith" playing]

And you know, people were a little..

...you know, careful, I think, of what they're gonna say.

But, once it started, you know, say or do..

Once it started, we started eating

and some of us, some of, some people started drinking.

It just flowed.

Well, you know, food always brings people closer together.

It always puts you in a better mood.

You know, I just hate Heather going "Can you get the phone?"

Oh, my God, I was like..

- What was my line? - 'Which was mine?'

"To hell with your lives, the tapes--"

- 'Yeah, you didn't..' - That's my line.

The tapes.

[Julie laughing]

Kevin, going through puberty on that one.

[laughter]

People, be come out to me, I want every baby..

A dude, a dude touched Kevin? What the ♪ ♪ ♪ you talkin' about?

I mean no disrespect, I couldn't look at the phone.

[Heather] 'Just go, Andre.'

I was going, I will never forget.

I was on that metro train going to Boston.

And this girl talked to me about

staying in the same room with you

and how did I do it.

'And I know, she know, I watched you every night'

'with your underwear on.'

And what'd you sleep in.

I said, "Child, you don't get out of my face.."

'Man, she's just lookin' at me like'

"How did you stay in the same room with Andre?

I can't believe it."

I said, Andre stayed, I ain't seeing Andre

till five o'clock every morning. Do you realize that?

He had his book, "What's goin' on, Heather?"

And that was it.

Ooh, Chav? I was staying in that house with Norman

I would've, he would've turned from being g*y.

I would've turned him out.

Look, you know what's weird?

I'm just happy to see that you're even looking at that.

Because, when I beep you, it doesn't do anything.

Why would it with someone else?

Here we go.

I put effort into getting in touch with Julie.

So, I don't know what's she's talkin' about.

She probably did all her interviews

"Eric doesn't call me."

"He doesn't leave any messages, he doesn't wanna go out."

Ba-da-da-da, da-da-da!

I call her. Don't kid yourself, Julie.

I don't think he's grown a lot in this last year.

No, I don't think Eric's matured any.

I don't think that would be the way to put it.

So, if I'm feelin' down, I think about

like, how many little kids are out there that are like

"Yo, yo, I want his autograph, I want his autograph."

Then it kinda like, puts a smile on my face.

Helps me out a little bit.

[laughing] You're so sweet.

No, seriously though. Just think about how many people--

People come into my bar and they're like

"Are you the girl from "The Real World?" And I'm like, "Yeah."

And they're like, "What are you doing here?"

And I said, "Well, I'm bartending."

And they're like, "Oh."

[upbeat music]

I'm a bartender.

[instrumental music]

[siren blaring]

I really hate working.

I really, really hate working.

Um, but I have to.

[guitar music]

With regard to music, my project right now

is, um, just starting to come to fruition.

And it's a band called "Liaison Fonctionnelle."

It's with three other musicians and it's..

It's, uh, we're not ready to play out right now. Um..

You know, I played out by myself

which I did a little bit

in San Francisco and in Los Angeles.

"Norman, I'm absolutely crazy about you.

I got such a crush on you since I saw in "The Real World.""

[Heather] 'Don't start reading that. Norman, look at his face.'

I know, exactly. Okay, ready, more? You want more?

"I'm going to tape every episode from now on.

"I'm in a relationship for over a year

"and I'm very much in love with my boyfriend.

"I tease him about you and we just have fun with it

knowing it's just natural, anyway."

- 'Exactly.' - I don't know.

"Please throw this away after you read it."

I find great comfort in hanging out with Norman.

Giving him comfort and he just is in the same

kind of wavelength that I am.

Can I blow some bubbles for Becky? This is for Becky.

Norman.

[Kevin] 'From the time that I saw Norman and Becky'

'sitting on each other's laps'

till when I came in from the party and heard

that they were in the bathtub together, I was like, damn.

Okay.

Is anybody in there? Oops! Sorry.

Now, that's like the most heavenly thing I think

I've ever felt in my life.

[Becky] Well, I like to take baths and Norm's decadent like me.

And so we decided to fill the whole bath tub with bubbles

and bring in a glass of wine and just relax.

I'm slowly starting to realize, um, it is, you know, my painting

you know, I've spent like, all of my life practically

working on that. But you know, you know, can you pull that off?

I mean, it is quite a magical thing

to pull of an art career.

[upbeat music]

You know, they have those painters that are on

and they're like painting like oceans

and things like that and they're like

"And this is how you paint the ocean."

You know, to-too-do-do-do!

This Norman's is another one of those.

Norman, um, organized the commercial..

Geo Tracker, the name of it is Heather's car.

You gotta travel, you gotta get where you're going.

It's kinda like the Batmobile.

Definitely like to take it for a drive.

- We're near Mid-Michigan. - Chevy Metro Geo.

[all laughing]

Diors.

Everyone, definitely, definitely gained, took something personal

or got something personal out of that show.

Kevin's doing that, that show on intolerance in LA.

I mean, that's great.

South Central, Los Angeles.

Over the last year, images of the Rodney King beating

and stores being burned and looted

have been seared into the American psyche.

[Kevin] The show's called "Straight from the hood"

and basically it's a documentary about people living

and growing up in Los Angeles. It's weird, you know.

Because, you know, being the host for the show

and one of the writers for the show, and um..

Definitely, you know, incredible experience.

But also, because of "The Real World"

very interested in the visual medium, so I'm working

on a screenplay.

Um, but I'm also interested in the acting, so I wanna

basically do everything I can.

I was in LA in front of the Mondrian Hotel.

LL Cool J was in the front seat and I'm in the back seat

like damn, LL is in front seat.

Like, these girls walk by and stuff.

And they like start wavin' and bangin' on the window

and I'm like, "God, they're jocking LL."

And he rolls down his window, he's like, "No, no.

We want Kevin." They didn't even recognize.

I was like, "Get the hell outta here, man"

Of course, the first question is, was that really real?

Yeah, but they-they don't think that what you do is real.

Like, like, like, are you really a dancer?

You know, people think that my band are

like the ♪ ♪ ♪ monkeys or something.

That we all have formed by MTV.

[Andre] My band, uh, 'Reigndance' will be around

for, in March four years.

So, I mean, it's not like, it's just a fly-by-night thing.

I mean, we've been around for a long time

and we're gonna continue to be around for a long time.

We're going on the road. You get to meet just tons of new

and different people.

It's just the real world that's airing, you know.

People responding to us as, you know, not as

uh, Kevin who plays on some

television show, but Kevin who is Kevin.

- Did I write the poetry I read? - Did you really write it?

Or, we actors, you know what I mean?

I get a lot of that. "You did really good acting on that--"

Yeah yeah, you are.. You are the best actor.

- I mean people don't realize-- - No, no, no.

[Julie] 'It's the people who say, "What's your real name?"'

I say, "It's Julie."

And they go, "No, really, you can tell me. The show is over.

- What's your real name, girl?" - "It's Julie."

"You are my favorite character."

It's weird when people come to you and say, you know, I like

you know, "I liked your character in the show."

But your character is actually you.

You're not playing a character.

You're just being yourself.

[upbeat music]

Really appreciate it.

[dog barking]

Oh, oh, nobody, no, no.

They're gonna know our secret.

And they'll know I did it with two men, you and Norman.

You taste like chicken.

[Heather] I think if Andre's girlfriend or friend whoever..

Tasha, um, Tianna or something, I don't know.

But I just didn't appreciate her company.

[Andre] This was the time she could come in

and this what I'm doing this weekend.

If they had a real problem with her

I wish they would've come up to me and said something.

You know, I had to deal with their obnoxious friends.

[Heather] I did not like the way it went down.

And I'll say it till I die.

'Shh!'

[Julie] 'There's Fruity Pebbles for you, Heather.'

- Hey, Heather! - 'What?'

You don't want any Fruity Pebbles?

'Oh, they got some?'

Whole box, with your name on 'em.

I'm glad that we can all come together and be friends

and get along and not have any animosity towards each other.

[upbeat music]

[Julie] Things happen so quickly and it is a different life

for all of us now.

Even thought our lives haven't changed in certain ways

they've definitely been rearranged.

Ben from "Entertainment Weekly" came and interviewed us.

And it felt like a therapy session to me.

Because people were, just like, spilling their guts, man.

[Ben] 'When the cameras shut down, I mean, did you expect suddenly'

'okay, my life's gonna be great. I'm gonna become an MTV VJ.'

- 'Everybody's gonna know me--' - 'No, no, no, no, no, no, no.'

- No, no, no. - 'No.'

No, I win, I thought that, I would just play

the whole starving artist bit and be like every other

'starving artist in New York.'

So, no, I didn't think it's gonna be any kind of

fame and fortune thing. I thought it was just gonna..

I didn't think anybody's gonna watch it.

[Ben] 'How do you feel about it? Were you happy with the way'

'the show came, came out?'

I get, I mean, the way I feel about it is that

we had, we pretty much had the power to-to make ourselves

look the way we wanted to.

It was up to us. We knew how the show was gonna come out.

We knew that everything that they taped

on us, they had the right to use.

So, whatever you said or whatever you did

you know, you were taking a risk, you know, to do that.

So, I mean, I can't, I mean, I can't complain

about how things came out, because that's what I did.

'And you know, those are the things that I did.'

'I can't go back on it.'

'So if somebody said something or did something'

'that they didn't like, there's really nothing to do about it.'

'That's you, if you're gonna be yourself..'

Like it, like, I learned from it.

[Ben] 'Asked the question, how real is "The Real World"'

'and how real can it be?'

'I mean, to you, it doesn't seem real.'

No, it doesn't seem real. I mean, they obviously

focused on Julie and Eric.

[Eric] 'You think that the, you think that on purpose'

they focused in on Julie and myself? On purpose?

- That's what their plan was? - 'On purpose.'

[Norman] 'And three weeks ahead of time.'

You think that's what their plan was?

[Eric] 'I don't think that-that's true.'

- 'Yes, it was.' - Whatever happened, happened!

Julie, what do you think? I mean, do you feel you were

the center of the show?

I don't really know what to say to that.

[Eric] 'There's a reason why she was the center of the show.'

'She was also the youngest and she came from Alabama'

'and didn't know a thing about New York.'

So, she had to be a major part.

I mean, she had no idea where to go.

She had no idea how to get there.

You know, so, automatically we all had to be involved

in Julie's life right off the bat.

I would really honestly think that

it was a show was about--

No, no, see, I could actually start taking this personally

and get completely offended.

Like, I geared the whole thing to be, you know, like--

This is not about, baby, this is not about you.

- 'I'm saying..' - 'I understand that.'

But, like I said, if I was somebody watching the show

I would think, okay, this is a Julie-Eric type of thing.

Let's see what Julie's doing and let's see what Eric..

And everybody else is a supporting character.

Well, no one, I mean, none of us is going to get the same

exact feeling and the same exact thing out of it.

I mean, anybody that watched it does not..

They...nobody gets the same thing out of it.

Everybody's getting it differently.

What they can relate to, what they can grab on to.

What's close to them, they're gonna get

something different out of it.

- 'But, yet, you're all here.' - 'It's business.'

I mean, y-you've all come back here.

I've come back to see Julie and Andre and Kevin.

'I know, you know that Julie wasn't trying to'

get in front of the camera every time she got red.

Can't say the same thing about Eric, but..

'I know that, I know that'

that I've sit here today to see my friends and the people..

I mean, this is something really a once in a lifetime chance.

I-I come back for that reason.

I think, the reason you saw us fight so much

was not to show us fighting but to show

how we could work things out and how everyone has these problems

that we had but we also managed to work around them.

It's like a friendship that, a real friendship, that you can

like leave and come back to

and pick up right where you left off.

I'm happy that I did "The Real World"

and I think everybody else is.

And it's like a part of our lives that will never be erased.

[upbeat music]

[Julie] I think we all respect each other a lot and so

even though we don't have so much in common

it was just a great, it was a good time for us.

Just this whole experience was just, it's just weird.

♪ Even when I was to blame ♪

It's real. It's real, real.

Julie, man, that girl cracked me up, man.

This kind of experience is kinda like a giant dating service.

I mean, it was just, it was crazy.

It was pretty crazy.

I don't really know what's gonna happen for all of us, you know.

I hope only wonderful, positive things.

I know one of them is a female cop.

Is there a surfer dude?

I know that one of them is from Kentucky.

Yeah, I love, there's got to be a surfer dude.

I know that one of them is even younger than me.

I hope that they don't k*ll each other.

Eric, I know this is your dressing room.

But never leave a wallet with a gold American express card.

I thought it was just one.

But as I looked through the wallet, there's two.

Eric looks like the man right now.

But of course, as I searched further and further

through his wallet, I got to the part where he's supposed to keep

the money and he only has $.

So, I'm leaving Eric another dollar.

So now, Eric will have $ and he can go on about his life.

Maybe buy a new hair-do, 'cause his hair is struggling.
