[Glen] It was really tough for me to perform

in front of Jon and Beth when they come over

to the rehearsal space because I thought

they were judging me, which they probably were.

Um, but I was also uncomfortable

because the music isn't perfected.

[Beth S.] Glen's band, uh..

It's different. His voice is definitely different.

It's just all so weird.

I mean, it's so off the wall

why does it have to be so different?

Counting "Perch," I think about seven people are out

from Philadelphia, we have a more coming out next week.

And then a week after that there's gonna be about .

[snoring]

There is a plethora of "Perch."

They're everywhere.

I actually enjoy Glen's friends very much.

That they've come out from Philly.

T-they haven't been any inconvenience.

They're nice guys, it's just..

...they're always around.

Like, you'll wake up and you'll see "Perch."

[yawns]

"Perch," spent many nights in the loft.

I-I admit.

But I didn't think they're in the way.

I wanna give her orange hair.

[Glen] Guitar player, on the couch upstairs.

Bassist on the couch downstairs.

And Ivan on one of the spare beds.

[Beth S.] Went in the kitchen, like it was theirs.

Made something to eat, hanging out.

You know, is this some kind of holiday inn or what?

They have let all the members from "Perch" are out here.

I-It's "Operation Perch" now.

We're just gonna go full force.

Topanga was really nice.

Um, the house that we went to was beautiful.

I loved Noel's little studio. It's really unique.

Noel's a friend of Ivan's.

Um, when Ivan was little, Noel had a band

and they used to play in the garage.

Noel gave us a little, a little information.

I don't know if we should look for lawyers first.

And then management.

[Noel] I don't think you have to, like

worry about that. I don't know.

Maybe you just got it, why, why always figure

if you just can get playing your music

you know, and play your, play your music

and then those things come to you.

Noel seems to be a performance artist.

Singing, just telling stories, photographs.

Oh, it's a slideshow about opossums.

I kinda like to break into songs about all kinds of things

like opossum, I have songs about the opossums.

'and songs about everything, you know..'

[Noel] 'You see, I'm the king of slideshows.'

[Glen] 'So what club.. Where do you play?'

[Glen] I asked Noel to put a show on at the house

because he wasn't sure when his next show was coming up.

And I wasn't sure how much longer

we would be in California.

[Jon] The slideshow wasn't about anything.

It was dumb, the first thing was like..

All of a sudden, me and Glen were the only two to live there

and we had a h-house full of thirty people.

You know, maybe we're all over it.

So I'm just like, okay.

I just hope nobody comes home and sees this.

People have been mad at Glen

about all the people staying over.

I started hiding them in other places.

And I'm pissed.

[Dominic] 'I-I think just along the same lines is what the problem is'

is it's once again, it's just the seven of us living here.

Now what the problem is nobody talks

basically, to each other.

'Nothing anybody says in this house is relevant.'

Stupid Jon comes in, and starts smiling. Eee.

'Before I even came out here'

I thought that I'd have to spend

a lot of time with these people to find out who they are.

We don't find out anything about each other.

We're all too busy with ourselves.

Glen, your whole damn band moved out here.

[Glen] 'The band didn't come out here for months, let me tell you.'

- Uh, no. - 'You know nothing.'

You have not made any attempt to spend time with us because..

Because all you ♪ ♪ ♪ idiots walk around and laugh your asses off.

Your neighborhood from Philadelphia is in this house.

My band didn't come out for a month. Two months.

And I got pissed off with you guys, you're so ♪ ♪ ♪ boring.

That I decided, I'd spent time with them.

- And I get my ♪ ♪ ♪ together. - You're Mr.--!

If we're out of the house, or there is something else.

Nobody wants to know

about somebody else, I do, I wanted to.

Your point was, you were trying to talk to people

and get to know people and I--

[Glen] 'No, I wasn't because none of your guys were either.'

- Nobody, nobody is in this-- - 'Excuse me--'

No. I ain't gonna listen to you, alright?

- 'No--' - I'm not done talking yet.

[Beth S.] 'Fine, go ahead.'

- Now I'm done. - 'Keep swimming.'

I don't know what his problem is.

Chill out, Glen.

[Glen] There was all this anger.

And I'm very pissed about it.

[Glen] He pissed me off.

[Beth S.] Nobody trusts anybody in this house.

Glen seems to feel that nobody talks to anybody.

Here we've been living together for five months.

And we really don't know each other.

[Tami] So we made up the question and answer game.

That gave us the opportunity to ask t-the questions

that were in the back of our minds

that we had never asked and to just do it anonymously.

And it does seem kinda cheesy to do.

And you shouldn't have to go around to doing something

like that to find out more about people.

But in the situation we're into right now

it's a good way to get to know people.

Now, wait a second.

Do you regret inviting your friends to LA?

- Go on. - 'Yeah, it's gonna be fun.'

Yeah, I do, um, I don't regret having my band out here

'cause they're like family to me.

And I've been feeling much more comfortable, I regret the fact

that I wasn't capable of finding a house

before they got here, which I promised, all of them.

'And I felt like crap and I feel bad towards you guys, too.'

'It had to happen that way.'

Do you think you were a genetically pre disposed g*y

i.e. from the womb?

I think in some ways maybe yes.

Because from a very very early age

I was flirting with girls

and running around chasing girls.

And holding hands with them and kissing them

on the playground.

'There are other g*y people in my family.'

'Perhaps that is true that people are born'

'with that preference.'

If you didn't sing, what would you do?

Uh, at a very young age I accepted Christ into my life.

And I think that, that was..

A-and I put a lot of faith into that.

'That's been the backbone.'

But I think I'd probably

do somethin' in the ministry

or somethin' that was kinda, like, a second choice

I was thinking about for a while.

But I never really thought too deep into it

because I-I always knew that I wanted to be a singer.

- Tami. - 'Oh, God!'

"Do you try to be a b*tch purposely?"

[Aaron] 'What did they say?'

"Or is it just the way you are?"

It's actually just the way I am.

[laughs]

Um, I think a lot of my strong nature

came from being homeless

came from, uh, being in a*usive relationships.

And that's why a lot of people

that meet me now see the bitchy side.

If there was one thing

that I wish I could change about myself

I wish I could learn

'to be a little bit more like a b*tch.'

And you too could be a b*tch.

You know, we have avoided anything that has to do

with who I am

all because I'm ♪ ♪ ♪ women.

It's been very easy for me to answer these questions.

'Seriously, it's been very easy for me to answer'

'these questions 'cause I don't have to think'

a damn thing about who I really am.

All I have to think about is my sexual preference.

It's probably the, the lightest thing

to touch on my entire life

is, is the women that I'm with.

- Because, well, your-- - I-In my part I think--

Your, well your sex life is just such a minor part

of your life, it is such a minor part.

"Glen, what is your family like?"

Living in my family is, like, living in this house

but worse.

[Glen] 'It's tough, no, I just mean..'

'I-I just mean, it's getting to know people.'

I.. I got nine plus a mother and a father.

You've nine children in your family?

- Yeah. - The Brady bunch plus.

But I mean, I was very shy because everybody was older.

I was t-the eight child.

And, you know..

I didn't get that much attention from my father at all

'cause my other, my older brothers

are very good at athletics.

And I what, I'd never cared for it that much.

Basically, because I was jealous.

I mean, I just kept on playing this sports

to try to get some interest.

But other than that, I had nothing

in common with my father.

And I didn't talk to him at all.

- I still don't. - 'Oh, really?'

Yeah, I respect him and I love him.

But you know, you know what I'm talking--

'You should speak to him, dude.'

Yeah, I know, I know, I thought, you know, when, I know..

Recently I've started thinking about it

because of my father's illness.

But it's some of the most important people in the world

to you, may leave and you're like..

'"I was too busy playing adventure," you know.'

I told my mom, it's like, but we always

both of us, you know, express our love for each other.

Always knew she was gonna be there and then this year

it's hit me that, maybe they won't always be there.

Losing my father was probably the hardest thing

that I went through in my life

that I think still reflects on me

till this day.

Um, because I was very close with my father.

Because...I wasn't really close with my mother.

Because nobody talked to me about it.

And it was just kind of like..

Okay, it happened. Let's forget about it.

And I've still never been to my father's grave.

[Tami] 'Mm. Do you want to?'

I don't know, I..

I think about him all the time and..

I just, I don't, I don't know what it would do for me

to go to his grave.

It's just something that I always put off doing.

"Aaron, do you think you're hard to talk to?"

- 'Mm.' - Yes.

I think I am. Tami's right.

I mean, I-I get aggressive and I start..

This is what happens, when you're talking--

You're thinking of what you want to say.

Exactly, I'm thinking at the same time.

And then I'm not really listening

so I just kinda of not--

- We're both aggressive. - Exactly.

You remind me a lot about my mother.

- We will never get anywhere-- - You , you remind me of..

...unless, one person says okay, I'm just gonna listen

to what they're gonna say and then I'm gonna talk.

And neither one of us are willing to.

You know, what I mean, it's like, we both

wanna get our thing out.

You're right. We're both headstrong.

And we're both aggressive, and, and t-that's my biggest problem.

- 'So you admit to that?' - Oh, I, oh--

- 'So that's something that--' - You guys, see--

[Tami] 'That's something that you're going to work on.'

- Oh, yeah. - These last five weeks.

Okay, why don't we make a pact?

I'll work at it if you work at it.

- Because that's the thing. - 'I'm willing.'

'That's all it takes is a little discussion.'

We've never tried that though.

That night everybody respected each other for the first time

it seemed and we got to know more about each other.

Like, tonight was great for all of us.

I mean, this is the first time we actually sat down

civilly and, um, actually talked about things.

And I feel better about everybody here.

I think we're kinda having a semi-civilized, uh, evening.

And I think it's pretty cool.

I kinda understand a little bit more about everybody

and where they're coming from.

And, uh, if we could've got to know each other

in depth at the beginning

we might have saved us some grief.

[Beth S.] I think, um, the house has changed a little.

[Dominic] People kind of lightened up

and started seeing things in, in a different way.

Wow!

- Yeow! - Wow.

[Beth A.] 'You know what else we could do that would be a really great'

'family project?'

What?

We could all, like, spend a day and volunteer

in like, A*DS project, Los Angeles.

- Or something like that. - We could do that.

Like you and I could do an Earth day project for the house

and we can setup an actual recycling center.

Better than just having that barrel outside

that nobody knows about.

- But you don't understand. - 'Because the city gives us--'

We don't even put our dishes in the sink.

Look, you know, how many days these cups been sitting here?

Whole point being is I would like to do something

for Earth day, and I think I'd like to feed the homeless.

Yeah, it's easy.

To live in this house and wake up every day

and take a shower and get your clean clothes.

And not even think about what other people are going through.

It's too easy.

- So, you wanna do it with me? - Sure.

- Feed the homeless? - Sounds good.

I was really surprised, uh, how everybody

kinda joined in and helped.

It was really, uh, really good.

- Sir, you hungry? - Starving to death, sir.

[Tami] I think that was the greatest thing

that we could've ever done.

I have been homeless before and I know

what it's like to be hungry.

I think we benefitted a lot more by it

from the homeless people did and I think

that was my whole idea.

- Here you go. - Alright.

[Jon] Finally, we did something

together and without a lot of bickering.

So it was, it was a good thing.

[Tami] Beth is, is just so cool

and she is just like a really nice

caring person a-and that's what I'm judging her on.

'You know, I really thought she was weird.'

But, like, spending the day

with her...she is weird.

But not--

She has lot of good points of view.

I-I knew that she was..

I-I mean to me she was little bit odd

but I knew that she was a very good hearted person.

I mean, and then they surprise you every single time.

I don't know, has this one even been worn?

It feels really new.

Maybe you should wear something

that looks a little older if you're gonna do it.

And it's a great idea, I just don't want

his feelings to get hurt.

[Glen] I went up to borderline that night

um, to see Jon basically.

You know, he's a roommate of mine

And I was interested to see him

you know, like, to actually see him live.

I know, he wears this one a lot.

Well, that's really pretty, that one.

[Glen] And it was a big deal, you know.

It was, it was, uh, for a prize.

And, um, I know it helps out when you go

into like, contests and t-to have people there

to cheer you on.

[Jon] I entered this contest

several weeks prior.

So I was returning for the final.

[audience applauds]

[Jon] Glen walks in and he has one of my shirts on.

He's just got this big grin, like, "Look at me, look at me

I'm in this country place and I'm all decked out."

I thought everyone was good, here, that they showed up.

You know, give some vocal support.

And I was really glad, uh, that people would, you know

go to the trouble and that we're curios

enough about me to come out and hear me sing.

I thought the competition was really good.

They all have really strong voices.

And you know, it was very good.

I didn't, you know, I didn't really expect

to win or anything.
