So before we get to the

Challenge, the judges have

Frank lloyd wright.

At the time of the museum's

Inception, it was at the

Forefront of innovative

Thinking, and that leads us to

Today's challenge.

This is the hp intel challenge,

And as you know, hp and intel

Have been innovative leaders in

Design and technology since

Their own inception.

So I want to introduce you to

The hp envy x2.

This is a case of cutting-edge

Design meeting people's

Technology needs in any

Situation because, on the one

Hand, it's an innovative pc.

On the other hand, it is also a

Tablet.

In a manner of speaking, it's a

Sort of convertible two-in-one

Pc.

So in the spirit of pioneering

Innovation, we are at the

Guggenheim for a reason.

This museum and all of its

Contents are the source of your

Inspiration for this challenge.

Each team is going to be

Creating a work of wearable art,

And I'm talking about something

Over-the-top, grand, big.

Now, this work of wearable art

Will have a companion piece that

Is commercial, in a manner of

Speaking.

We're gonna be making two

Garments--one that's a more

Avant-garde inspiration.

The other one will be an image

Of that same piece that's more

Ready-to-wear and scaled down.

You're going to be creating a

Textile design.

Back in the workroom, each team

Has an hp touchsmart desktop

With pattern-making software.

This will allow you to execute a

Textile design that will be

Incorporated into both pieces.

Designers, loaded onto these

Three hp ultrabooks inspired by

Intel, you'll find information

And archived photographs of the

Guggenheim, and this should help

Give you inspiration and insight

Into all aspects of what this

Challenge is about.

What I love about our hp intel

Challenge is--is what you're

Going to be doing now, which is

Designing your own textile.

So you each, as a team, have an

Hp touchsmart desktop.

If I had one of these

Computers at home, I'd be

Creating fabric all the time.

You have all of this material

To help you with your wearable

Art look.

It's fun.

After you create your textile

Design, it's going to dynamics

For manufacture, and it will

Arrive tomorrow morning.

We're going shopping at mood,

Where you will have a budget of

$200 For supplemental fabric.

Your hour designing on the hp

When we had it done on a grander

Scale, we decided it kind of

Looked like a quilt.

Have longer hair, right?

I would have some, like,

Stressed, some crazy hair.

The print is kind of

Reflecting just mentally where I

Am right now, just not

Necessarily on the brink of

Insanity but kind of in that

Realm.

It's definitely my color

Palette.

In fact, my kitchen is painted

This color.

A woman on the verge or

Just, she's beyond the verge.

The face of the woman on our

Fabric is represented in the

Clothes.

I wonder if anyone's going as

Creep-o-rama as we are.

Are we doing the triangles?

Yes.

We both agreed that we wanted

To utilize the triangles because

It gave it more of a

Cutting-edge feel.

I love the fact that the hp

Can create imagery that rotates.

At my studio, that would take

Four days or more.

That's very cool.

Layana cleverly came up with

A geometrical design.

I don't know how you--print it

And now, I'm a 1,000% believer.

I loved the different hues in

This particular piece.

I kind of created a color and

Shadowing with the corrugated

Waistline.

I was then inspired by this,

So I was gonna create this belt,

And it was gonna be done like

This, like I initially did with

Yesterday, and I put a

Little bit of it together.

Worked hard on it, and it's a

Beautiful dress I really like,

And I do think it's a work of

Art.

I'm so proud.

It looks so good.

I know that I'm back.

I am so proud of myself.

There's attitude, there's hip,

There's sex appeal.

My look speaks for itself.

I love it.

Daniel's ready-to-wear look

Looks great.

It's very polished.

The jacket fits amazing.

I think it's a knockout.

I'm very proud of my piece

'Cause it is a bold statement.

It's--it's not playing it safe.

I did take a leap on this piece,

I've made her androgynous, and

I think the construction

Not flattering at all.

This look does not reflect me,

Remotely, as a designer.

He gave up, and he wouldn't

I'm really upset, and I'm

Frustrated and sad inside.

About your looks.

When we were walking around

The guggenheim, we started

Talking about a dark, torrid

Woman who is possibly on the

Brink of insanity, and so we

Kind of ran with it, and

Stanley--you know, I really like

Doing coats and jackets, and he

Was like, "this is your time to

Do kind of an over-the-top

Coat."

With, uh, michelle doing her

Coat, when tim said, "volume,

Volume," I walked in and saw

Bubble wrap, so my light bulb

Went on.

And we also took inspiration

From some of the sculptures, and

Michelle sort of translated that

On the train.

How did you guys come up with

The print?

What was your inspiration there?

I just started drawing faces,

And stanley was like, "I really

Like what you're doing.

Just do that."

You're either gonna--i think

Either you're gonna love it, or

You're gonna hate it.

It's true.

It's definitely a print, either

You're gonna love it, or you're

Gonna hate it.

I love it.

Oh, good.

I love the colors.

Someone could look at it as

Spinning out of control, or

Someone could look at it as

Quirky and fun.

Mm-hmm.

I think it's a beautiful

Print.

I would love to wear it.

I'd love to have that in my

Collection.

It's a gorgeous dress.

This look is just perfection.

It's all about spiraling out of

Control.

However, it doesn't represent

That at all when you see the

Dress come down the runway.

And part of it is the design.

The silhouette of the dress is

Very charming, and it's the

Right length.

It's a yin and a yang.

But I love this avant-garde,

Over-the-top piece a lot.

I'm very happy that you were

Gutsy enough to go with this

Bubble wrap.

This is a challenge where you

Can do it.

You know, we said, "push

Yourself, go for it, and you

Did."

You were not afraid.

I love that.

About your looks.

When I first walked into the,

Uh, museum, the first thing that

Really caught my eye was the

Architecture.

Aesthetically, I like structure.

And then--pick up from there?

I drew a stylized eagle

Feather with lots of triangles,

And we knew that we wanted to

Use these colors that are

Tribal, but you can't tell what

Tribe it is, so that's what this

Whole piece became.

You made the long dress, and,

Richard, you made the second

Look.

You made the ready-to-wear look?

Yes.

I can see, richard, where you

Struggled with the fabric on the

White skirt.

However, I do get that

Inspiration of architecture.

I get that feeling, which I

Think is important.

The second look, I like your

Play of the layering of that

Painting over the print, but

What I don't think was

Successful was the overall

Presentation.

It really did not translate

Harmoniously.

Absolutely.

The two garments don't speak

Back to each other.

Together, as a team, it looks

Off to me.

Patricia, I love your look.

Oh, thanks.

I gave it a really high

Score.

I think it's beautiful.

She looks so pretty under this

White veil.

For me, it's fresh.
