Daniel, I didn't even recognize

So I went to the hotel room and

twist this season.

[LAUGHTER] There's no real
laugh over that.

[LAUGHTER]

This Whole team situation

was sprung on you as soon as you

walk through the door at
Parsons. Let's take a look.

Every challenge will be a
team challenge.

Know what? Only Daniel smiled
because that's what you do.

Yeah, right.

But everyone else is just
like [LAUGHTER].

That was monumental.

Lord have mercy. [LAUGHTER]

Hell, no. [LAUGHTER] I was
like,

this can't be happening.

[LAUGHTER]

I personally loved the team
aspects for two reasons.

One, it kind of put you guys in
the real world.

Two, you guys had the chance to

critique each other before the
judges.

I think that was a really good
idea.

For me, I had prepared myself

for the show that I had seen
before.

And then when I go here and they
were like, it's teams.

I was like, "I don't know

if I would have gone through all
of that."

Yeah. [OVERLAPPING]

We all came with very
different views.

So you want to make this team
thing work but still show

your voice and it was just very
hard.

I thought it was kind of
realistic.

I work in production, so I'm
totally used to

succumbing to like the
client's wishes.

Right.
Or the directors' wishes.

There was no pecking order as
such here.

Right.

Now there's ♪♪ some teams

that were complete matches made
in heaven.

And there were some teams that
were anything but.

Let's take a look.

That looks like the
inside of a sofa.

Benjamin is breathing down
my neck.

The jacket,

you think that's going to be the
dominant?

That's going to be a bit of
hell.

I need to make my pattern.

I can do it myself.

Benjamin doesn't need to

step in and watch everything
that I'm doing.

I feel like you're really trying
to micromanage me here.

Our aesthetics are like

oil and water. Can't figure
out a way.

She is a artist.

Textiles are her passion and

it's hard for her to communicate

what her final vision is going
to be.

Now, I mean,

I love her and would love to
work with her.

We've bonded, my pure.

"I don't want to work with
Patricia," is gone.

But it took 12 challenges to
figure that out.

[LAUGHTER]

Patricia, did you know that
Michelle they want to work with

you earlier on because it
seemed.

No. I didn't. [NOISE] She did

admit to me that you didn't want
to work

with me and I admire

the fact that you are that
person who's going to tell me.

Right.

It's so funny watching the
show and you

think that you're cool with
somebody.

I didn't know how much Kate
didn't like me.

When looking at our look

and then looking at Amanda's
look,

I don't think we did the worst
job on our teams.

I think that the next person to
be

eliminated will probably be
Amanda.

She is the weakest designer in
the workroom right now.

No. But it was like for me,

I just don't like to see,

I've always been the underdog

and the person who everyone
looks down on, and I'm

-always too young to do this.
-aw that's not true.

So I was like once again,

I feel like the outcast.

How is the dynamic now

between you guys. You friends
again?

I mean, I don't know how
you guys are towards me.

Honestly. It's like at the end
of this,

I feel like we're just one big
dysfunctional family.

[LAUGHTER] Amanda, how do you
feel about Kate?

I always thought we were
cool.

[LAUGHTER].

Honestly, I will say this.

I didn't look down on you or

think that you were the youngest

but now watching the show,

this is going to sound a little

condescending and I don't mean
it that way,

but like, I feel bad for you.

element of fear and all of us.

protect myself.

serious.

I'm like chocolate cover
razor blade and then

torch it in [LAUGHTER] the more
it melted.

You're going to get cut. I even
dropped the f-b*mb,

which I never let myself lose
control.

I would just like when I was
yelling

at my friend too and I loved
you.

[LAUGHTER] But it's just like
[NOISE] I

just got like wonky for some
reason.

I was Mr. High. What are you
doing?

You should have pressed it

He is very bossy and
Stanley is too straight.

It's not just me because it's
very

difficult to help him to do
something.

Two just screwed me up.

And it came out of nowhere.

But it was like the competition
was in your face

and is on the line and people
were dropping like flies.

Richard and Layana you were
not getting on. Why?

I thought we had never

had any tension on the show
really.

And then all of a [LAUGHTER]
sudden,

why are you rolling your eyes?

we have this huge
blow out on the runway.

If you guys asked me, who
was the weakest link,

I would say it was him because
throughout

the competition I feel like he's
been

very inconsistent and he

makes too many [BACKGROUND]
excuses.

I disagree with that
because

the reality is I made my shirts
myself.

I didn't have help from anybody
else [BACKGROUND].

I mean, I made my jacket
myself too.

You didn't ask Stanley to
help you with

the back of it. [NOISE]
[LAUGHTER]

I feel that you are harboring
something Layana.

Yes. Well, do you remember
like

sometimes you would joke and

saying that I would get

whatever I wanted to speak as I
was pretty. [LAUGHTER]

I said that because she was.

She would come over and be like,

Richard, I need this black
fabric.

Are you going to utilize this?
Didn't she do it?

-But he gave it to me.
-But that was like

the really joke that I would
tell people,

"Don't look at her. She's like

It's Layana, of course,

we're going to get extra from
everybody else.

everything.

So if Layana once a certain

I mean you can always do

I'm happy with that choice.

Stanley did she bet her
eyelid?

I have a tendency to get what
I want.

Because of the experiences
that I've had.

I think I found myself slipping
into

old patterns of work and old
roles.

Micro-managing?

I mean, that all comes down.

Yes, that's been quite a touchy
issue.

Obviously, it came across like
micro-managing to you.

I wasn't coming from that point
of view.

As soon as Cindy said that to me
in the workroom,

I backed away instantly,

I didn't realize I was doing
that.

I'm sorry, you feel that way.

Cindy, you are very quiet

I think Benjamin talks a
bunch of bull.

In what way?

He'd get on the runway and,

"I tried so hard to organize

this team and I just couldn't
gather everybody else."

But he did help.

-But Cindy. I did try to do
that.

-I think he did.
- I tried to take my experience

from my career and offer it to
my team.

Between you and I, it didn't go
well.

It didn't go well.

But let's tell it how it is.

That's how it was for me.

[LAUGHTER] I'm telling it how it
is for me.

That's how it is for me.

Apparently, I'm a bit more
bitter than I thought I was.

[LAUGHTER] Did think that the

counseling had done the trick,

but I guess not.

This whole challenge was set
up to make

you guys better managers and
communicators.

Do you think that actually
worked?

Being on these teams, you
listen

to what the other person is
going through.

Maybe sometimes I listen too
much.

Right. You have too much
empathy.

Yes. There you go.

It functions a little bit ruling
a crop because

you don't want it all the way
up. Make that little room.

Daniel is helping me with the
shorts because he has

a very quick way of draping
pants.

It's going to work. I am a
nice man,

and sometimes I think I'm a
little bit too nice.

That's what gets me into trouble
sometimes.

Who do you think really
benefited from having teams?

I mean, obviously, I mean.

I didn't benefit.

I was always on the bottom

because our team was always on
the bottom.

You solely blame your team

Yeah. The team because we
were stuck

in a team and that was the
score.

I mean, I wouldn't say
necessarily

any individual benefited most,

but I think that when people
maybe had a weaker look,

but the team as a whole one,
they got carried through.

Yeah. The Lord and Taylor
challenge,

Daniel is a perfect example of

a look that probably should have
gone home.

Amanda, you're rolling your
eyes.

I think I floated through a
few on a really strong team.

I totally admit that.

But it was also said, if your
team has a weak Look.

You should step in and give

advice and try to give some
constructive criticism.

Emily, you heard that, you

had some negative words about
Cindy

maybe to stay in the beginning
and then

she stepped in and helped you.

Cindy, she just had a career
change and

so I feel like she's kind of at
a disadvantage.

Oh my God.

The way I'm looking at it,

I only need to do better than
one person.

You know, you think this is
the older woman of the cast.

But she's so much more than
that.

designs and does is crap.

comes to woven,

so he's a little bit challenged
sewing, tailoring.

It's a recipe for disaster.

an element of fantasy in this
challenge,

but he is taking it all the way
to Sesame Street.

how to get there. In his jacket.

Michelle, Leona and Amanda
are b*tches.

You'd get them together and
they're

like caddy school girls.

really pissed off with that.

the bus by the team.

shocked.

line one toward the end while
trying to help her.

I didn't know what I could do.

It was really hard to see her

go through what she went through
last night too.

I didn't feel that traumatic

I kept seeing her struggle
the most and I was concerned,

I said just get rid of it.

The thing that I don't really

understand is how my team talked

about what a struggle it

was and I don't really think I
was that much of a burden.

I kind of feel like the are
lying.

Completely, 100 percent.

I learned, I need to be a little

I do because I think I got a
little trampled.

controlling moments where I

felt the testosterone of we know

the team

and we always offer that up.

Layana I notice you're having

a good old flirt with one of the
strippers.

No, that is completely

He was saying how hard it is for

The funniest is that the
episode came out and then

I did an interview for

a Latina Magazine and I talked
about being pregnant,

they posted it on a Project
Runway blog.

Everybody's like this from the
guy [inaudible] [LAUGHTER].

He is the father and I'm like
great [LAUGHTER].

Does anyone feel like being on

Project Runway was actually
harder than you expected?

-Yes.
-Really.

This is so much harder
than it looks on TV.

Why? You've seen 10 seasons.

No.
You think a day is 24 hours,

but it's not 24 hours.

The actual work time is so
short.

You start your day so early and
you go till so late.

I remember watching it and I

would say Tim telling the
designers you

get one day for this challenge

and I would think that's not
true.

You actually get less than a
day.

You got about seven hours
because

during the day you have to do
interviews,

eating, and have to stop.

Would you say this is the
hardest thing

you've ever done in your life.

As a designer?

Yes.

As a designer. Yeah.

You think it'll be fine,

you'll be able to handle it all,
but it's so

foreign and you ask,

tripped up so much that

the usual things that you would
use in everyday life,

your coping mechanisms, they are
not there for you.

Yeah. I tried to cry in

the shower every night so it can
get out of my system,

but I could not cry [LAUGHTER].

This is something that really
happens.

I tried I was like you just
need to get it

out so you don't cry in the
workroom.

It didn't work.

It didn't work. I couldn't
cry, but that's

when I got eliminated.

I cried so hard my fake
eyelashes,

were running down my face
[LAUGHTER],

because I just couldn't turn it
off.

Then cry It's a happy moment.

Yeah.

You need to believe in
yourself,

even when nobody else does.

I think Project Runway

is so hard and obviously
everyone has breaking points.

We saw some epic meltdowns.

Let's take a little look.

You need to be young.

You but you said that it has
to sell for 21-year-olds?

No. No, I didn't say that.
I'm just saying.

with a bunch of money want to
buy it.

But you made me feel like I
wasn't doing anything, right?

What I'm saying is that.

I want to make sure that
everybody knows on

my sides that it needs to be
done for 21 year old.

No, it doesn't have to.

Daniel, what are you doing
right now?

I don't sell to 21-year-olds.

I'm

I'm trying to stay positive
and be upbeat, but I'm upset.

It's just really hard,

but just trying to be strong.

guessing myself the whole day.

that one challenge got me and I

made like five different
versions

and once you go into that dark
place,

I just couldn't pull myself

out and I just kept drowning I

just had to get it done and I
couldn't get out.

Right. So you just spin out
of control.

That was the first time that
I felt insecure.

Daniel, if felt for want of a
better word,

like you already falling apart
there.

Yeah.

Really tough, right?

It was, but you know

I've always played that at
the end of the day.

I was supposed to go through

that to make me a better person.

Michelle I'm watching you and
you're still like what

is he talking about [LAUGHTER].

You still so confused by it?

Because you were adamant. You
didn't say that.

I didn't say that.

And it was really frustrating
for you.

Yeah. I can tell by the way,

your face as you're watching it
like.

It's absolutely freaking
ridiculous.

I said in a critique, I don't
think,

and I chose one number and it

happened to be 21 because they
asked for

something useful and I said

that number and he got it all
twisted and

his mustache [LAUGHTER] and
freaked out on me.

It was not fair to me at

all and I still don't think it's
fair to me.

I think for their situation

because on the runway the judges
kept

badgering Daniel who be

younger than she just got in his
head.

This theme because it's
everything but the judge is like

Okay, I need to be younger and

she said my partner, she just
said it.

That's why it was deeper for
Daniel.

It hits a soft spot.

Yeah.
The only other thing that

bothered me except for that day
when we ended,

you gave me a hug on camera.

Daniel, I wanted nothing but
you to

make them as beautiful thing
that you want to make.

It's going be amazing.

That girl got over I blacked
out.

Then when we left the worker
room and

you said, You're walking,

I said I'm still pissed and I
thought that was wrong to

do because you hug me on

camera and then you walk out but
you're still mad.

Of course, I'm still mad,

mad and anger doesn't go away
automatically with a hug.

But you did that for camera
show. That was like,men.

Please. I don't even know the
cameras

are around as you'd like,

forget what was going on.

That's not being truthful.

It is being truthful.

Those are my [bleep] feelings I
don't understand that.

You can hug and be mad.

that's the thing that's so

coherently.

I love it how it's always
okay and fun.

Why do you think you do that?

I do that because through my
life,

through my journey, I've had a
lot of downs.

So it's always better for me to
look at

the positive when things are
bad,

turn it around and make it
positive.

You were bullied and

you mentioned there were

some addiction issues earlier
on.

Do you think this is why you're
so positive now?

Yes. I went through my
journeys through

life and I have no regrets and
you know what?

If I could help somebody which
I've already done,

I'm so happy about that.

I have people telling me thank
you

for for being open about my
addiction,

about my situation through my
depression,

through substance abuse, through
all of that,

and at the end of the day, I've
won that way.

really made me focus.

What did you say to her?

she's a very strong designer
that's why I was like,

it's going to be a collection.

I'm a fighter and I'm not
going to give up and

I realized if I did walk out

what a loser, like what a big
loser to give up.

Hopefully doing a lot of
collaborations with people here.

I know that Stanley and I have
talked about

doing a dress that we did for

time working with him on

the sweaters and it's definitely

something that I want to do in
the future as well.

How was it to see your work

on the runway, Michelle's
finale?

It was really exciting.

and purposes, you were runner

and every time I did something,

about that?

Do you regret not being as

prepared as you could have been

when you came to the finale?

Oh, absolutely. I could have
been completely prepared.

Why weren't you prepared?

I had a lot done but in

the end when the judges wanted
me to

flip flop and change things.

If I had more done coming in,

I would have had more time to
edit.

This was kind of a hard thing
for me.

In what way?

My sister passed away a year
before.

I'm so sorry.

We were super close.

Trying out for the show was

that little journey of my own.

I came in doubting myself and I

left not doubting myself and I

have all these faces to thank
for that because they have

all helped me in my journey and
it's been major.

Yes. I think Zac understood

We have completely different
aesthetics,

but he just for some reason
understood who I was,

where I was coming from, and got
it.

Samantha, I loved that you
used

a material from the florals non
topically.

It's always exciting to see

almost a textile built out of
layering.

I respected him for that
because we're so different.

For him to step outside himself
and his vision,

and understand where I was
coming from

, I appreciated that.

Finally you were eliminated
in

an episode when Zac wasn't
there.

Right.

Do you think that had
anything to do with it?

A little bit, actually.

I think Christian Siriano was
a very good judge.

Because he was actually in
our places.

You want to have that great
simple tank blouse,

that has to be the most sought
after

tank blouse that everybody wants
to buy.

I thought he was a really
good judge,

because he was a contestant.

I thought that Nina got me.

I think that she understood my
aesthetic,

and that we had a good rapport

throughout the whole
competition.

I absolutely loved this,

It's pretty incredible. Because

I wouldn't obviously haven't
gotten that far.

I wouldn't have won.

-Follow your heart.
- Yes.
