[male narrator] Previously on the "Real World.."
When it's six people on one person
you can be overwhelmed.
Stop it, no!
And, then, Sharon sits in this part here
where there's no planks.
We can bind her on with extra binding
and she can kick at the back.
[Mike] You can't get under her, it pisses you off.
[Lars] And then some day, she's going to break down.
[crying]
[Kate] This is the true story..
[Neil] Of seven strangers..
Seven strangers..
[Jacinda] Picked to live in a house..
[Jay] And have their lives taped..
[Lars] To find out what happens..
[Mike] When people stop being polite..
[Sharon] And start getting real.
"The Real World," London.
[Mike] 'Look at those couches, man.'
[Mike] All of us visited Sharon
at the ideal home show.
Its price is ..
[Sharon] I wanted a job and some money.
I mean, God, I was going mad
in the house doing nothing anyway.
I'd rather be working.
And you just tuck the nose in
and it's down, that's it.
She's like, "Oh, I've got an hour for my lunch."
And, next thing you know, we're ridin' motorcycles
callin' people on the telephones
and goin' on rides on rocket ships.
[Sharon] 'Whoa!'
We must have been out there for like two hours.
Oh, but it's quite jiggly.
Anyway, I've got five minutes.
Let's go get on it again. Yeah.
[Mike] I said to Sharon three times
"Sharon, don't you have to go back to work?"
And she's like, "Oh, no, I'll show you around
a little bit more.
Ah, I've still got time."
And the price is ..
[Sharon] You know, I was with my friends
and I was walking around, and we were having a good time.
And, the last thing I was thinking about
was getting back to work.
[Lars] The third time I reminded her
I was like, "Sharon, it's a quarter till : now.
Are you sure you don't have to be back at work?"
And she's like, "Oh, my God, I had to be back at o'clock."
[Sharon] My boss was least understanding.
I know her temperament very well
and she could really have gone off the roof a lot more
than she did, so..
But, uh, that was okay, really.
- Will she allow you in? - Oh, well, yeah, no.
Yes and no.
[Lars] She's not purposely being late
and purposely staying away for two hours.
She just forgets.
[woman over phone] 'Get yourself together, Sharon.'
I agree with you, but I just--
'It's the third one now, in two weeks.'
'I feel like putting the phone down on you.'
'That's exactly what I feel like doing right now.'
'Get yourself together, I, um, I'm meaning that.'
- Hmm. - 'Okay?'
- Yeah, bye. - 'Bye.'
Tragedy strikes.
[Sharon] It takes me a long while

[Kat] I'm glad I did a semester abroad.
I'm glad I got to take some classes

- Can I make a suggestion? - Sure.
It's "Post-Modernism Theory and Practice."
So, it might be an interesting elective.
This class on Post-Modernism to me
is a really incredible, interesting subject.
My modern drama class I've gotten
a great deal out of
my drawing class is retraining my eye.
[female #] 'So, you think you know what a body looks like'
'until you start drawing it.'
Then you realize you don't know anything at all.
[Kat] I do care about what I'm doing.
This does mean something to me.
This education, this wonderful scholarship
I got at NYU, it means a lot to me.
I mean, there's no way I could go to college
without a scholarship, there's none.
[upbeat music]
- Need to just learn this part. - Okay.
[Kat] I'm a little bit worried about my drama class.
- And I don't know it at all. - Okay, so I'm Valmont.
I'm a little bit worried about my monologue.
"Women are obliged."
"Are obliged to.."
- Skill? - Read me the whole line.
I'll give you cue words.
"Women are obliged to be more skillful than men."
"I became a virtuoso of deceit."
"I consulted the best philosophers in France."
"It wasn't pleasure I was after."
I want to do well at it.
I-I want to show this teacher
that I do have some talent.
So, I'm nervous about it.
[shouting commands]
[Sharon] Do you really believe
that the average man in the street
'wantsto go to w*r?'
You're * * * simplifying it so ridiculously, Sharon.
'No, he is simplifying.'
- 'I'm not.' - I'm simplifying?
[Neil] You said everyone should just hang out
and be nice and love each other
and not get their weapons.
No, I did not, I said hypothetically speaking
if it were possible--
- Which it ain't. - For every country to disarm.
Would you go along with it?
And, of course, I should imagine
that most people
with a reasonable degree of intelligence--
But it's such a ridiculous concept, I mean
it's not even worth discussing.
It's so unlikely.
[Neil] Sharon always has an opinion and always
expresses her opinion.
Which can be good, but
if you're talking loud and saying nothing
then maybe you should keep quiet for a while.
Why do you even bother initiating?
I didn't, I did not.
'You did initiate this discussion.'
- You said w*r is really bad-- - It is bad. Who likes w*r?
[Mike] I like Sharon a lot.
I-I really do and I really like
getting in fun arguments with her
but I think she just kind of ooh..
...without focus kind of.
[Sharon] People just may not be aware
that they can knock me
harder than they see.
"Talks too much, won't shut up."
- Everybody, shut up! - Shut the * * * up, everybody.
"Tries to be smart, but is not."
[laughter]
[Sharon] I can come across as this big
bold, confident thing
but it doesn't mean to say
that I haven't got my fears
and insecurities like everybody else.
Oh, stop it.
Jacey, stop it.
I don't find it funny.
- Hi. - Hello.
[Sharon] Amanda, you see, is my dearest
dearest friend, she's like a sister to me.
We're actually born the same day.
And that girl knows me inside out, upside down.
Thanks a lot.
People don't understand that
there's another side to me
a quieter side, a deeper side.
And, unless you're really with me on a one-to-one basis
that side doesn't really
get a chance to come out.
I think they find you, amusing.
Oh, this is..
Exactly, and I don't want to be
amusing to other people.
- Exactly, I'd rather be taken-- - Why not?
I mean, because amusing doesn't
bring any respect at all.
That's rubbish.
No, it's not.
Because then you're just a fool.
- And then-- - You're not, though.
You're certainly not a fool.
No way, Sharon.
[Sharon] I hold it all in.
So it mounts up
and then there's a point at which it breaks.
You know, the straw that breaks the donkey's back.
And, I think, by that point
I'd dealt with quite a bit.
'Sharon, please, don't be upset.'
'So many people love you, Sharon.'
[Amanda] You should be so happy about that.
I just think that
people just do not understand.

Well, seriously, she said
'she was gonna clean up but then she ended up not doing it'
'because she's really feeling bad.'
- 'Aww.' - 'She's really sick.'
[Mike] 'Like we should feel sorry for her.'
Originally, I just thought
she was just sick with a fever.
[Kat] It was like a different kind of sick
from what I've seen in Sharon before.
She was really quiet
and I was trying to be chatty with her
and it didn't seem to work.
And she was cold.
But she was running a high temperature.

Jay.

that I can't afford to get a bad grade.
Financially, I can't afford it.
So, I'm really nervous.
This is a scene from "No Exit."
"To forget about the others?
"Don't be absurd.
I can feel you there in every pore."
I just lost it, I'm sorry.
Okay.
[Kat] If I don't have high enough grades
I can't go to university.
And, basically, if I can't go to university
that means I'm stuck back in Washington with no job skills
and stuck at home.
So, I get really frustrated sometimes.
- Take a deep breath, relax. - Yeah.
The first part was very, very good.

but when they pulled away, I really wish I had.
[Sharon] The doctors took one look at me and said..

give you some antibiotics
