[Neil] Jay started winding down as soon as he'd done his play

which is a bit of a shame.

[Jay] I guess I kind of miss a lot of things about Portland.

[Neil] What the hell, maybe he's just hanging out

and doesn't want to get too wrapped up

in being a great artist.

[Jacinda] 'Aren't you getting bored yet here, Jay?'

''Cause I don't know, what have you been doing?'

[Jay] 'What do you mean am I getting bored?'

'Are you getting bored in London?'

To me, it's a hugely wasted opportunity.

[Kat] This is the true story..

[Neil] Of seven strangers..

[male #] Seven strangers..

[Jacinda] Picked to live in a house..

[Jay] And have their lives taped..

[Lars] To find out what happens..

[Mike] When people stop being polite..

[Sharon] And start getting real.

"The Real World," London.

Uh, so are you nervous for me coming home?

- 'Mm-hmm, I'm excited.' - Yeah?

Tuesday, I hop on a plane

and head back home to Portland, Oregon.

That's that, huh, one week from tomorrow.

[Alicia] 'One week.'

It hasn't hit me yet.

[Jacinda] 'This is one of the trendy streets in London.'

I'm surprised you haven't been here yet.

[Jacinda] Jay had said to me

he wanted to buy lingerie for his girlfriend.

[Jay] I was just trying to find a nice little thing that, um..

...would just be cute and a soccer player would wear.

Look, what do you think?

- No, wrong! - Yeah, let's have a look.

Oh, no, no, no, no.

Oh, I'm not getting little frilly lingerie

with slap-off Velcro and little buckles.

- You're so cute, Jay. - No, no, no.

'There will be none of that.'

[laughs]

[Jacinda] 'Tell me what you like, Jay.'

In the first ten seconds, he was like, "Nuh-uh.

No, this is all wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong."

[laughs]

I don't know, she wouldn't wear anything

just so clingy like this.

- No. - It's underwear, Jay.

Underwear clings, it's the point of it.

I had no idea he would react the way he did.

He got inside the store

and started giggling and fidgeting.

He couldn't look at anything.

He couldn't touch anything.

Why don't you get her something like that?

That's gorgeous.

I know, I can't deal with lace though.

- Why? - Because I like it.

[laughs]

Jay, you can do it.

- No. - Come on, Jay.

I can't get her something like this.

Go away a boy and come back a man.

No, I gotta hang out with her mother.

That's sweet, though, Jay.

So nice, she'll look cute in it, too.

I'm not exactly like the lingerie

connoisseur or anything like that.

I was really glad I had Jacinda.

You think I should get it, huh?

[Jacinda] 'Yeah, you like it.'

'It's the first thing you saw.'

- 'Go on, get it for her.' - Alright, let's get it.

[Jay] 'She can't return this, can she?'

I'm proud of you, Jay.

Who am I gonna blame this on? That's the easiest question.

No, Jacinda gets all the blame for this.

[Sharon] I call her "Miss Mischief."

She's got this kind of cheeky little thing.

She's always pushing buttons.

Ah, Jacinda, ah-ha-ha!

Really unpleasant, Jacinda.

I'd like you to stop now, please.

[Sharon] Jessie's not into the mundane, it bores her terribly.

Let's take our cloths off and run naked around the block once.

She said, "What's everybody gonna.."

I said, "Doesn't matter, nobody's gonna think anything.

Let's just go."

[Sharon] 'Oh, they're going outside.'

[Mike] 'They don't have any clothes on.'

I don't know what the hell Jacinda and Kat were thinking.

I mean, hell, last night they went out streaking

or something like that. I don't know..

...where that stuff enters their mind.

[Jacinda] Sharon and I were deliriously bored.

And Sharon gave me the phone number of some

guy, I don't know who he was.

It's Lucy.

- 'Lucy.' - Did I wake you?

- 'No, you didn't wake me.' - It's been so long, since I..

- 'Hello.' - Hello, I'm sorry.

'What's happening?'

Nothing, I'm just little bit upset.

- Oh, my God. - 'Why, what's the matter?'

[Jacinda] It's me Lucy. You don't even remember me, do you?

'Lucy..'

Look, I need to tell you something.

You and I, were together..

...like a couple of years ago.

I'm sorry, I just keep getting upset.

Um, it's not that big, it's just that I..

I have these little scabs.

[laughs]

'Yeah.'

I'm sorry, I'm just, you know, it's not..

I'm probably really over reacting.

It's nothing serious, you know.

It's not herpes, I know that.

- 'What, what?' - 'Cause I had herpes once.

[laughing]

'You sure we met two years ago, yeah?'

I don't really know what it is.

I, I had an A*DS test, it's okay.

I was wondering, have you had any scabs?

[laughing]

- 'Hello?' - Hello.

[male #] 'No, I haven't.'

'We saw each other two years ago, right?'

- Yes. - 'And I gave you my number?'

You gave me more than your number.

[male #] 'I gave you more than my number.'

Yes.

'Are you sure you're talking to the right person, Lucy?'

Wait a minute, what's your name?

[laughing]

[male #] 'My name is..'

I'm sorry, I got the wrong person.

She's just fearless, that girl, she's just absolutely fearless.

She just doesn't give a turd, she'll just do

what she wants to do.

[Jay] I'm so scared, I'm gonna like, disappoint you.

[Alicia on phone] 'Why, though? Why do you, I don't get why you think that.'

'You gotta tell me, I don't know..'

'You say you're worried about seeing me again.'

'What does that mean?'

[Jay] What's been happening the last

week or so is me coming to

tell her some things that I

don't like hearing myself admit.

I-I just hate thinking that what's important to me

has changed. You know what I mean?

I'm just hopin' it hasn't.

[Alicia] 'You don't know how you'll feel towards me?'

[Jay] I think she was kinda scared off

by some of the things that I was saying.

Oh, no. What are you worried about?

[Alicia] 'I'm not, I wasn't.'

I've just been real honest with her

and I told her that's just the way it is with me.

It's like there's no other way to do it, you know.

Alicia didn't quite understand that, you know.

[Jacinda] Jay seems to think he's changed so much.

He said, "You know, I find when I talk to Alicia that

"there's this big gap now that, you know, wasn't there

because I've experienced so much."

But, I mean, although Jay might have written

an incredible play

he hasn't experienced hardly anything.

I've been so removed from life

that's important enough to write about.

And so I, I just don't..

I just think it's gonna be a while before I write again.

'I'm just saying that, like, me writing'

for it to be good writing has to be, 'cause it's my own..

For my own reasons.

Of course, it does.

And that's it, it's like I haven't felt like writing

till I get back with my girlfriend

and having everything be fine and just trying to..

...get back to reality.

[Jacinda] 'Yeah, but whenever somebody does something good'

people want to always see more of that good.

Even if that was just one special thing.

Yeah, I don't know.

'See how you feel after you've been'

'back there for a week and a half.'

'It's a good reality check.'

[Jay] If I feel anxious about going to visit Alicia

a lot of it is the fact that

I think our roles have kinda switched.

And it's kind of me needing her to

make me remember how much we had.

I'm just pretty scared right now

because I can't see in my mind, confidently

how we're gonna be.

[instrumental music]

[Jay] I was just nervous as hell.

More nervous than I'd ever been.

I had some apprehension about what would be different.

[all laughing]

When I stepped off the plane

the first thing I thought of while I was giving her that hug

was like, this is like a human being.

It's been so long

since something with a heartbeat decided to get close to me.

Hello, everybody.

- Hey, kiddo. - Hey.

- Good to see you. - Good to see you.

♪ Got some news for you

They were quite a weird bunch of people.

Nobody has like a steady job.

So what are the rules of the house?

[Jay] I'll wake up about three in the afternoon.

[female #] 'Hasn't changed.'

I know, don't you dare

look at me like you're surprised.

[laughing]

[Jay] I think the thing I look forward to most is

just to have Alicia and just to have it be quiet.

And try to communicate what I've been going through

and just to see how she feels about it.

The worst part was the first day you left.

That was horrible.

[Jay] So the first week was the worst, huh?

Oh, that was horrible.

Oh, God!

[Jay] Alicia and I are at a point right now where we don't

ask for any more than what we have.

[Jay] 'You're not disappointed, are you?'

No.

All I've done is just tried to make sure that

when I'm with her

when we're face-to-face, that I can look her in the eye.

And we can feel no walls in between us.

It's been so long.

[phone ringing]

Sharon!

- Do you have to? - 'Sharon!'

She's just always on the telephone.

Hello.

[dial tone]

Jacinda, you're in a real pissy mood tonight.

I have no respect, anyway.

[laughing] Legend..

[Sharon] 'Stop it now..'

'Stop it.'

Legend, stop it, Legend.

[Mike] Sometimes I really like Jacinda

and sometimes I can't stand her.

Jacinda..

Do you find that when you're with Jacinda alone

'by yourself'

'you find her to be really a nice person?'

But it's like, as soon as

we're in front of someone else, boom!

It's bitchy, bitchy, bitchy, bitchy, bitchy.

For me, it's [beep] interesting the fact that

she changes so dramatically.

Because fundamentally, she's a really nice

and a very intelligent girl.

- You think so? - Definitely, yeah.

'But you have to think that she, like'

started modeling at .

And then, went international at age or whatever.

So, from the age of , she hasn't had a normal life.

I dunno, fundamentally, I think she's a really good person.

Of the people in the house, there's very few

I'd like to stand by and she's one of them.

[Jay] I'm going back to see a play at my old high school.

It's turned into like, this big community event

and this is the first time that they're

they're doing it without me.

And so, I just couldn't imagine not being there to see it.

God, you know the hours..

Those were all my dreams for five years of my life.

Oh, gosh!

For me to just go back to this place

that I spent so much time in..

This place where I put so much thought

and so much love into.

I don't know if I'm gonna miss having that

or if I'm just gonna say, "That was so wonderful

how I spent my high school years."

Alright, well, then, the next thing we need

to see on grand stage starring you

is a musical written by you.

Jay has a lot of talent, but he doesn't respect it.

If I had that ability.

You know, just, like..

Oh!

I think in a way though, sometimes when you're that young

and you have that level of success, it can scare you.

I think he should try writing something completely different.

[Mike] 'Yeah, he-he definitely possesses the talent.'

- 'I just hope he..' - Talent won't get you anywhere.

Unless you do something with it.

'He shouldn't be worrying about high school plays right now.'

He should be thinking about

what he's going to write next

and what he's going to do in his life.

[Mike] 'I mean, he's going back to see a-a stupid high school play.'

[Sharon] 'Yeah, but it's his choice, that's what he wants to do.'

'I think he's doing it in a way'

to honor where he's come from.

Those pants don't match that shirt.

[Jay] The whole thing was so surreal.

[male announcer] 'Mr. McDonald welcomes his recent star'

'who's come all the way from London to see this show.'

'Jay Frank.'

[Jay] I use to sit in that auditorium and just think about

how incredible it would be to have a full crowd

and to have me be the only person on stage.

I got so far away from that, 'cause all of a sudden

there are these bigger things, and then I'm living in London.

Seeing all these other things

especially concerning the theater

gave me a whole different perspective on it.

I can sit and look at that theater and think

"Oh, this is just, you know, a bunch of seats

here in Northeast Portland," you know.

It wasn't like the whole world to me

like it was even just last year.

Great to have you home for a while.

[Jay] All of a sudden, I'm spending all this time with Alisha.

I just wish I could spend more time with her.

How's it gonna work out when we break up?

So you just take me up this mountain to dump me, huh?

'Cause if we don't break up that means

we gotta be together forever.

What's wrong with that?

Oh, look at that.

[Jay] I think the main thing that I was missing

when I was in London was that

I was going through these things that I

I wanted to share with her.

It was so wonderful to be back with her.

It felt like nothing had really changed.

I'm not into modeling, it's like

delivering somebody's food or something.

All I'm delivering is my look on my face..

[Neil] I think to a certain extent she's kind of

a student of the world.

How she acts has been shaped by

this quite strange life that she's had.

[Jacinda] I kinda decided just

to get my tongue pierced today.

Why do you wanna get your tongue done?

'Cause I just want to.

I just wonder like how sensitive that area is.

Well, in my experience, it's quite sensitive.

'Like the days after, was it throbbing?'

Yeah, like someone just bitten it off.

- You still want to go? - Yeah.

I'm game, I want to see you get poked.

I went with Jacinda to get her tongue pierced.

I think she just fancied it and went for it.

I think after it stops hurting, it'll feel really good.

He's a bit of a London piercing legend.

I think he was a nurse

in the South African army for a bit.

Educated, well-mannered, runs classes in S&M

and all sorts of things.

Quite a character.

As long as it won't hurt, I'll be your friend.

Yeah, well, it will keep the pain down to almost nothing.

And when I pierce your tongue

I'm putting in a bar bell.

'This particular bar is made of titanium.'

I've had phenomenal results

where you'll have very little swelling.

Turn up, face me.

Neil, come and hold my hand, then.

Come hold her hand. Absolutely.

You're bloody right.

You gotta have somebody to hold your paw.

- Thank you, face me. - I think it's gonna hurt.

No, face me.

It's uncomfortable, it's not gonna hurt.

'That's the last you're gonna feel.'

'That's all. You better relax completely.'

[Neil] 'It feels funny, doesn't it?'

I had about of those when I was sowed up.

- I can still feel it. - 'Yup, you're meant to.'

'Okay, take your tongue straight out. Here you go.'

'Okay, I'm just holding your tongue gently.'

'It's a barbaric method of doing things.'

'Excellent, you're pierced.'

[laughs]

I'm a little, I'm bit shaky.

- Is that normal? - Not unusual.

[Jacinda] 'Everything feels funny now.'

Put your feet up, let's tilt you back

and let you relax for a while.

[Neil] 'Is that blood going to your brain?'

Okay, I think I'm alright now.

I'm quite proud of her for doing it

because it was something quite unexpected.

I think it's kind of disgusting, personally.

I think it's kind of ridiculous.

I like my women tough, but not that tough.

I had to laugh when I went

and sat down on the, on the underground.

- I was like, "Oh, my God!" - Welcome home, Jay.

- Look at.. - Sharon!

- Look at this place. - 'Sharon.'

[Sharon] 'Is that Jay?'

- Yeah. - 'What's up, Sharon?'

[laughing]

Same old Sharon.

I heard you, hi, baby, oh!

[Jay] To come back here for the first hour

and to meet Kat, that was really cool.

And to see everybody in the house and have people

miss me, that was really great.

and then, you know, after an hour, it was kinda like

I wish Alisha was here.

Last couple of days, I've just been pretty miserable.

Just kinda moping around the house, thinking..

...I miss her.

[Mike] 'Is he still not awake yet?'

The guy has not been, I have not seen him

since he's been home. He's been home, what?

Three days now?

[Lars] 'Well, is he still in bed?'

- 'Yeah.' - No way.

It's a quarter after six.

[Jacinda] 'I think Jay actually enjoys doing nothing.'

'I think he's just waiting to go home.'

[Mike] He was just starting to get used to

going back to his normal life in Portland.

And then he comes back here and is kinda stuck without it.

[Mike] 'There is no one in this house'

that has as much natural talent as you do.

And I think that everyone--

[Sharon] 'We have high expectations--'

Everyone in this house is, is disappointed.

'I mean, I'm just, I'm just telling you'

you know what consensus says, you know.

Yeah, I know I look like #*##* sleeping in, I know that.

You think I'm some kind of fool

where I don't know what that looks like?

There is so much stimulation here for you as a playwright--

- It's ridiculous. - As-as, as I told you though.

No, no, no, no, let me finish, let me finish.

I expected you, if you really are a poet

to, to, to be writing here.

You've had five months on your hands.

You know, I hear playwright, you know.

- I expect you to be writing. - Okay, I just wanted to..

I hear fencer, I expect them to be fencing.

Say this to end it.

Nobody else in here has written a play

and for a playwright to come in here is a [beep] joke.

I understand you can't do this, you can't do that.

But no matter what, they're all excuses.

I never planned on really being a writer as a career op.

I wrote this play, people seem to really be affected by it.

People enjoyed it, people, you know

think I should write some more.

But I just haven't felt the desire

and there's no way it's ever gonna be good

if I do it to meet other people's expectations.

The only thing that's important to me

is gaining all these experiences.

I mean, whether I try something, whether I don't try something

I'm always learning.

And I'm gonna go home and be with my friends

and still be as happy and content with myself

as I was when I left.

If I just accomplish that, this has been a great thing.

[Alisha] 'I'm sorry, you've had a bad day.'

- 'No, no, it's not like that.' - 'Yeah.'

No, I just wanted to tell you I love you and see you soon.

[Alisha] 'I love you.'

- 'Okay, goodbye.' - 'Bye.'

[Mike] 'I don't need money, I'm already loaded.'

Alright, Jay would do it.

Jay, Jay might know.

Jay would do it for some food though.

You want me to strip naked

and run from there

up there, singing "Stayin' Alive?"

- 'It's pounds, Jay.' - 'I'm not your private dancer.'

- So you're not gonna do it ? - 'No.'

'I should go to bed? Show is over?'

[Mike] 'Are you surprised?'

[Jacinda] 'No, I knew you were a wuss.'
