Walked on the same pathways
that I was walking on,

It’s really kicking off

This church was designed
by an architect named borromini,

And this sculpture was designed

- The visuals of this city

a starting direction now.

Well, ten looks,
there’s got to be kind

Of a story told in it.

There needs to be a narrative.

some italian fabric home.

I think it’d be nice

Of that in my collection.

- This one feels
like I can pull from any color.

- You could, absolutely.

I saw it the first time.

I think it feels very urban.

like, almost $800, though.

a trip to rome.

That’s my strength.

- I wanted to reconstruct denim
and make it more luxe.

Next piece is a pencil skirt

With volume inserts in it.

I love the shape.

I love how
you’ve constructed it.

I love how it appears

That i’m going in

- Growing up in new zealand,
what led you to this world?

been in new zealand

Where I came from,
but it’s the middle of nowhere.

Like, there’s no fashion.
There’s no fabric store.

Like, I can remember I used to
make patterns out of newspaper.

Like, I used to--’cause I didn’t
know what pattern paper was,

So...

- Well, i’m eager
to see your studio.

- It’s just up the street.

Environment to work in,

That I took from the rome trip
was actually the story

Of the betrayal of caesar.

That’s totally unexpected.

of my collection kind of has

To do with being a dictator,
really bright and light.

That’s how I interpret
caesar being at the start,

And then there’s a look which
is kind of like the betrayal,

Which is the black fringe
up into the waist.

Then it starts with this
really vibrant orange,

Which is the representation
of, like, caesar

Getting stabbed by everyone
who he thought he trusted.

- How fascinating.

The effect you’ve achieved here,
this ombre with the fringe,

Is spectacular.

- My biggest fear
is that they were like,

"We’ve seen this from you."
Nina said on the last challenge

That she’s seen fringe from me,
and she doesn’t want

To see it again.

So i’ve been really restrained,

And i’ve only used it,
like, three times.

- I’m going to unshackle you.

- You’re not taking
this far enough.

- Okay, but I want to express
a concern.

- Do you really
have two collections here?

- Yeah, there is a definite
divide between them.

- There’s such a strong spirit
of innovation

With this fringe here.

I look at these other items,

making the fringe stuff,

a couple strong looks.

of the finishings,

a little underwhelmed now,

I know I have so much more
to show them.

I’m so used to those looks.
I’ve been looking at them

For so long.

I love them.

I just know I don’t have
enough distance from them

To look at them objectively.

I--honestly,

I need some feedback.

I decided to just go for it
and show my finale look,

Because the jewelry
on that is k*ller,

And I want--want to--
I want to show that off.

This collection
is the real beginning

Of my career in fashion.

- The collection
is sophisticated.

It’s chic.
It’s visually stimulating.

There’s fringe, of course.
There’s, like, movement.

- Thank you.

- I am really, really happy
at how they’ve come out.

I think it’s a really great
sampler

Of how my collection will be
and really is giving the judges

A taste of what’s to come.

I think it’s all really crisp
and clean,

And it looks luxurious,
and i’m happy with it.

It’s really nice to see the
clothes up on a runway moving,

And it really gives you a feel
of what new york fashion week

Could be like when you
put your collection up.

- I think my collection
is really flowy.

It’s colorful.

It’s kind of neat and sleek
but with a edge.

You want to make sure
that you show them pieces

That embody the spirit
of your collection,

But you don’t want
to give them too much.

I think my girl, she’s just hot.

She’s fly.
She’s fresh.

She doesn’t like to blend in.
She likes to stand out.

I feel like they represent
who I am as a designer

As far as the edginess.
It shows versatility.

I’m hoping that they can
appreciate that I wasn’t safe.

I kind of took a risk
and stepped outside the box

A little bit.

- I want to show them
what I can do and show them

That i’m all about structure.

I’m all about construction.

I wanted to see
how detailed things are

And pretty much how much work
I put into each piece.

They’re serving bitchiness,
and that’s exactly what I

Want to show.
I know they feel it, and you

Can tell when they’re walking
down the runway.

- I feel like this is exactly
what I wanted to show.

I’m sitting back thinking, "yup.
This is exactly what I wanted,

And the judges will read
it perfectly, and it’s fine."

And I feel like it’s so strong,

And it stands out
amongst the rest.

- Designers, we really
enjoyed watching the show today.

Sean, tell us about your
collection.

- The collection’s built
around the idea of the betrayal

Of caesar.
- This is exciting.

- You took something signature
like fringe, that your name

Was all over the world
on international press,

And made it into a separate
with a crisp white shirt.

I like the shaping in the back.

The jumpsuit fits really well,
and i--then I like that you

Threw in the soft, draped piece.

I really wouldn’t change
the styling.

I think this is very good work.

- Well, I love the fact that
you’re working with separates.

I mean, I can see
a day-to-evening look here.

I do worry--and we had
a conversation prior to this--is

Your entire collection fringe?

- No.
- Oh, great.

How much fringe is there?
- Enough.

- Good answer.

- I think that you are
a designer that has proven

To have many creative ideas.

So for you to hone in on
just one thing would be a pity.

- I agree with nina.

It shouldn’t be on every
single outfit.

- It just becomes,
like, a one-trick pony.

It just becomes a handicap
that you don’t need.

us about your three looks

And how they
represent your collection.

- Well, I just wanted to do
pieces that were youthful,

Fresh, a spin on
a everyday piece,

And just something really
sleek and--and fun.

I wanted to have my collection
a breath of fresh air.

- What else do you have
in your show?

- A turquoise piece,
a pink piece,

A vest that has
a really long tail

With some pants.

I got a mixture of everything.

- I do like what you’ve brought
for us today, those three looks.

I just don’t see
how they all tie in.

I see one girl
that’s going to the beach,

I see another girl that’s going
to a c*ck party,

And I see a girl at a dinner
in the hamptons, let’s say.

- I think the middle look
needs to go.

- I really like the striped
jumper.

It’s sort of, like, sporty.

- Can we unzip it a little bit?

- Let her breathe.

- They need to be
a little looser, in a way,

So they don’t all look
like soldiers.

- Yeah.
- They have to have

Your attitude a little bit.
- Yes, her--and she

Has great attitude
and great personal style.

I want to see more of that.

- If you are going
to add a piece,

I think your
graphic work is good,

And you work really well
in black and white.

In my mind, I have a couple

Of looks that I need
to sport up a little bit.

I’m kind of worried, because
I don’t have

A lot of time to change.

- Amanda, tell us about your
three looks and how they

Represent your collection.

- I was actually super
inspired by rome.

I was obsessed with all
of the detail on the buildings,

And I just loved how there were
just these heavy, old buildings,

And then you’d see, you know,
bright graffiti or,

Like, a show poster.
I just loved that contrast.

I have a lot more moments
with the blues,

And I have more moments
with the taupe

And black in a jumpsuit,
in a dress, in different things.

I also had a lot of fun
making a couple different knits,

So that’s a custom
knit I designed.

Then I also designed jewelry

But had it made
and just kind of took advantage

Of some fun things like that
that I never have time

Or money to do.

- You made this jewelry?
- I designed it,

And someone else--
I don’t know how to solder.

- Do you have more of it?
- Yeah, yeah, I do.

- Put more of it on.
Go for it.

- Okay, okay.

- I think the jewelry’s
exceptional.

I think the clothing works
with it really well. Own it.

- I love that your clothes
always have an ease to them.

And by the way, I always
want to buy all of them. I do.

- That’s awesome.

- I see a lot of girls
wanting to have these clothes.

They’re just really cool.
They’re fun.

They’re great prints.

But there is more color
in the collection, right?

- Not a ton, i’ll be honest,
but there is more.

- Get out of the, "it’s long,
and it’s bohemian,

And it’s peace, love."
You’re done with that.

- It’s true; the middle one
she doesn’t need.

- She doesn’t need it.
It needs to be out.

Yes, you’re still gonna play
with your ethnic.

You know, there’s a lot
of texture in your clothes.

Keep that.

But I think you’re ready
to elevate your clothes

To another level.

- Still keeping
that ethnic part,

But it’s a little chicer.

- I think you have a lot that
could be extraordinary here.

- So when I left you guys,
I had--i don’t know

Why I had it in my mind
that I was this easy designer

That does simple things
that you can throw on.

Scratch that.

I’m totally not that at all,

And I accepted that
and ran with it.

I’m a fussy designer.

I make clothes that are serious,

And why not play off of that?

This collection really
showed what I can do,

Not only with denim,

But with structure, technique,

And also playing
with different silhouettes.

- Kini, right now, to me,
this looks very old-lady.

It is with a lady purse.

It is with all the bangles.

I think you have to restyle
this thing completely.

- You don’t need
this coat, kini.

- This coat is a lot.

- It’s--it’s like ’90s at
saint martin school of design.

- What is the point of this?

- Hair and makeup
has to be redone.

There is so much eye shadow
on those eyelids.

It is too much.

- There is no sex appeal
going on here.

- Well, she’s not cool, she’s
not sexy, and she’s not edgy.

- See what we’re talking about?

- Yeah. No, yeah, yeah.

- I’m a huge fan of yours,

And I want this to be successful
for you,

And you can still
turn it around.

- Yeah, oh, definitely.

- But you will have to
probably work the hardest.

You have the ability to remake
a lot of a collection.

Sometimes this happens.

I’ve had it
in some fashion weeks,

Where you’ve just got to clean
the slate a few days before

And remake it.

And I know that’s scary,
but sometimes that’s when

You get the purest expressive
message out.

is this little, you know?

It’s kind of, like...

- Who the hell is gonna make
pieces for new york fashion week

In a day?

I have no time.
I have no fabric.

What the [bleep]
am I supposed to do?

- Next time on
project runway...

- Kini’s really upset.

He essentially needs to redesign
his whole collection.

- It’s looking to
be hurricane kini.

- Charketa, you don’t have

- I’m not sure if char can
