-[Lacey] Yee-haw!

-[Lacey] ...of seven strangers
-[Rachel] ...picked to live in a house...

[Nehemiah] ...work together,
and have their lives taped...


[Johanna] ...to find out what happens...

-[Danny] ...when people stop being polite.
-Shut up.

-[Melinda] ...and start getting real.
-[all laughing]

-[theme music concludes]

-[upbeat music playing]
-[car horns honking]

[indistinct chatter]

[Wes] At the Dizzy Rooster, I meet
a new girl, and her name is Wren.

I'm getting to know her,
I'm really digging her.

-Oh, you're so cool.
-[indistinct chatter]

I know.

[Wes] Life at the bar
is like being a hunter.

I look for the best looking girl
in the bar, and I will go after her.

Her name's Wren.
She's the hottest girl in Texas.

[Wren] Shut up!

When Wren's there, I already feel like
I have the best looking girl in the bar.

-[police siren blaring]
-[upbeat music concludes]

That's scary.

-That reminds me of, uh, back home.
-[Wren laughs]

[Wes chuckles] Yes.

I'm telling you right now,
I'm not a nice guy.

[scoffs] No.

Not to girls. To everyone else.

[Wes] I'm not a nice guy.
In fact, I can be a [bleep],

but I feel like I want
to be a nice guy to her.

Maybe that means that a girl like that
can bring out the best in me.

[Wes] Right now

It bothers Johanna
the way that I am with girls.

Johanna's jealous of me with Wren.
I really don't care that much.

totally absorbed into school,

to get this out of my system

before I settle down
with Eric permanently.

If you were not dating Eric,

with somebody for a long time,

and I just want to find

[cheering, applauding]

He is also a good kisser
for drunken nights,

and nothing more beyond that.

[music fades]

on fire! We burned the towel!

[Rachel] Matt was cute,
and he was a good kisser.

That's my new boy on Sixth Street,

[Wes] He's the biggest dork

[upbeat music plays, stops]

-[Wes] Rachel.

[laughs]

-[Wes] Rachel, Rachel.

[Nehemiah] You ain't [bleep] with
nothing that we have at any place.

I care that Rachel was hooking up

with the doorman at the Dizzy
because Rachel has the tendency

to hook up with the people
that are hooking me up.

And it makes a situation tense.

You're not [bleep] up
nothing that we have

just 'cause you get drunk
and want to make out with everybody.

I think Nehemiah
just likes to push my buttons.

My mom always says,
"Don't give 'em a reaction

because that's what they want
out of you, Rachel, is a reaction."

And I can never not give them a reaction.

-She doesn't want to do a Collin.

I'm holding Rachel back because

I know Nehemiah
can control himself. Rachel can't.

And she is acting
like a little childish girl.

-[Rachel crying]
-[Danny] She just tweaked.

[Rachel sobbing]

[music fades]

Soap opera, dog.

[upbeat music playing]

[Nehemiah]
I don't even consider Rachel a target.

Rachel makes herself a target.

Rachel paints a big bullseye
on her face, and says,

"Go ahead, hit me."

And she gets hit
every single time she tries to do that.

That girl is straight up
emotionally [bleep] up.

Like, before the Army.

The Army didn't do that to her.
Her childhood did that to her.

And I can laugh at it
'cause she could never live in my family.

What I said to her tonight
will be every day [bleep]

that she would have to live through.

Please let me get up
and hit him so I can go home.

[Melinda] No, you're not going to.
You know your emotions.

-[cries] I want to go home.

[car horns honking]

[Nehemiah] He's in love with Wren.
He's in lust.

Wes is a sucker for love.

The minute that a girl comes across

that just whispers sweet nothings in
his ear, his whole state of mind changes.

We call him "Captain Save a h*."

If I was lusting for her

would I be thinking, possibly,
about having sex with her?

-I'm not.
-You are.

[Wes] When I look into Wren's eyes,

I don't care about anything
but being with her.

And that is what scares me the most

because I look at every other
girl that I've seen down here,

and I think about how fast
I can get her pants off.

With Wren, it's not that way.

You guys are literally making me sick
to my stomach to hear... like that.

[phone ringing]

-[Wren over phone] Hello?
-[Wes over phone] What are you doing?

-I'm getting dressed.
-What are you doing tonight?

Um. I'm going downtown.

-I don't know.

Probably the same place
I always go, places.


[Wes] I'm going out with Danny tonight.

Taking him out on a guy's night out
'cause I thought you were at work.

-Don't worry. I won't meet up with you.
-[line disconnects]

[Johanna]
Is Wren going out tonight?

Okay, first off, I said... [chuckles]
..."I'm going out with the guys."

-And before I could even finish me saying...
-[Johanna laughs]

..."Can we meet up later,"
she hung up the phone.

-And I would...
-[Johanna] So she's really sensitive

-right now.
-Yeah.

[Johanna] The whole thing
with Wes and I, it was just stupid.

I don't want to be mad at him.
I don't want to be mad at anybody.

I really do love his company,

and that's why
I like hanging out with him.

Yes, Raquel?

Wes and Johanna have
so much sexual tension.

I think Wes really likes Johanna,
whether he says it or not.

[upbeat music playing]

-They're hot.
-No they're not.

I agree.

[Wes] I have no idea why Johanna
finally wants to go in for the kiss,


but I'm going with it because something
in the back of my mind says,

-Where's Nehemiah?
-[Lacey laughs]

Me and, uh, Nehemiah
and Danny all kinda split up.

-[Johanna] Yeah.
-On accident.

Wes and I made out.

Before anybody makes
a bigger deal than what it is.

[Lacey] I already could tell. That's why

-I was laughing when you came in.
-[laughs]

[Lacey]
I'm absolutely floored by this because,

in my mind, Johanna is just
so far out of Wes' league.

[Lacey] You didn't do
what you told me you were gonna do.

Which was?

But the second she starts
kissing me, I'll kiss back for, like,

less than a second.

And then I'll pull away,
I'll look her in the eyes, and say...

[Lacey] "This is what you coulda had."
And then walk away.

[Johanna laughs]

-And then walk away.
-Yeah, right.

-"This is what you coulda had," walk away.
-[laughs]

-[Wes] I hate you, Lacey.
-[Lacey] No you don't.

[Wes] Lacey, I hate you.

-Please.

-I can smell it on you.

-[Wes] Joey.

[Nehemiah] I don't even know how
to describe Johanna hookin' up with Wes

I hope they know what they're doing.

-[Wes] But I'm spinning right now.

-[indistinct chatter]

[Johanna] Wes has kissed me,

but I know that Wes and I
are not gonna make it a big deal

'cause we both have a mutual understanding

that he can go out and get with
as many people as he wants,

and I can go out and do the same thing,

and it's not gonna turn into,
like, an argument between us.

That's the nice, relaxing part about it.

I don't know. I keep on getting
in a fight with one of my roommates, Dad.

-[Rachel's dad over phone] What happened?
-We went to a bar.

And I made out
with some guy and whatever,

and my roommate just straight up, like,
called me a sl*t, Dad, like a real sl*t.

[Rachel's dad] There's not a lot
that you can do about it,


except just be above him,
be better than him.


Look at him and say, "You know what?"

"You... You're not worth the aggravation."

"Shut the [bleep] up
and get out of my life."


[upbeat music playing]

My dad's right.
You don't have to like somebody.

Just don't let them aggravate you.

The night that you got in a fight
with him, that was not aggravated.

That was irate.

[Rachel] Yeah, that was horrible.
I don't even want to talk about that.

The outburst I had with Nehemiah,
I don't think that was me.

And I don't understand why
I got so angry, and why I freaked out.

I didn't even used to have anger outbursts
like that. I swear to God.

I got my counseling appointment
tomorrow at the VA.

Like, go to the PTSD stuff.

From PTSD, you can have
anger and crying outbursts.

Like, oh, maybe that's it.

I want to ask Rachel
to go on a walk and talk to me...

about Iraq.

The reason why I think
Rachel flips out a lot of times

is because of stuff that
she's dealing with inside.

The whole purpose of me
asking you is just like I heard you,

you know, mention Iraq a lot today.

And I feel like maybe it's on your mind,
maybe it's bothering you.

'Cause I feel like I know you feel like
people in the house don't get you.

[Rachel] Danny's putting in effort
just by initiating the walk

and bringing up the subject,
but I'm willing to put in some effort too.

And maybe tell him some things
I haven't told the other roommates.

Like, really, just the only thing

that really... the worst part
about being there was just, um,

being scared 24 hours
a day for a whole year.

That's what wears down on you.

You're just always... your senses
have to be like 100%, you know.

You're always looking, looking,
looking, looking for something dangerous.

Always listening for something.

There's not, like,
one second where you feel safe.

When you go through that much stress
and fear in a year period of time,

I don't know if maybe that's letting
some of that out when I cry and get upset.

[Danny] I think what you did
is nothing short of amazing.

Just know that. And I do respect you.

And that's 110%
from the bottom of my heart.

-Oh, Rachey poo.
-I'm not gonna cry.

[chuckles]

-I'm not gonna cry.

[Rachel] Danny and I have
a brother and sister relationship.

I think that
we're gonna end up being friends.

I mean,
if most people in the house asked,

I'd tell 'em, except I don't know
if Nehemiah asked, if I'd tell him.

Maybe you need to tell
the really bad stuff to Nehemiah.

Maybe he doesn't know as much.
Make him see.

I don't know how to say it
without sounding like a total [bleep],

but I really don't think
Nehemiah's worth the time or the effort.

[Danny] You never know.
You know what I mean?

If you go and you talk to him,

you guys could end up
best friends after this.

Nope.

[Rachel] Not everybody
is as understanding as you, you know.

Or everybody else in the house.

It's nice to finally
be around people that understand.

I'm really feeling not so weird
for the first time since

I've gotten to Austin
'cause I'm not crazy.

It's just, you know,
there's some stuff to deal with.

[Danny] And she made out with Wes
like four times last night, right? Joey.

Dude, they're gonna so get
together, it's ridiculous.

I feel bad for Wes, though,
'cause that's a frickin' mind job.

When they get drunk, they'll kiss
and stuff, and she'll be all lovey-dovey,

and the next day she'll pretend
like she doesn't know him.

[Nehemiah] That's why I...
I left her alone.

[laughs]

[Melinda] Yeah, I remember
one of the first days you were like,

"I think Jo was put here for me."

[Nehemiah] And that same night
is the night when she beat me up.

[all laugh]

[Nehemiah] She whooped my [bleep]
in the club. I felt like such a punk.
