ZAC: This was one of my favorite
pieces I've seen

in many seasons.
HEIDI: Erin...

-Brik, there was a big
disconnect to your look.

Ian, the final look was
uninspiring and underwhelming.

SARAH:
I am so excited that we are in

this room with Erin because
she is our good-luck charm.

This is the winner's room.

We are all gonna win
a challenge.

ERIN:
It feels like it's, like,

so cool to be able to, like,

kick off a season
with first win.

It is so wild
being the first winner.

It wasn't, like, this,
like, amazing surprise,

but I was up against
some other people where

their stuff was good, too,
but either way,

I'm very honored.

-I'm just glad we're all

ALEX:
Definitely.

about the other ones, but...

-I was happy to be safe.

-I don't think safe is bad.
-It's not an option for me,

I'm so excited to be here

presenting you with your

JustFab challenge.

-JustFab is my jam.

-JustFab.

-On the island of Manhattan,

there are four million women
and more who are getting dressed

every single morning.

-JustFab's goal is
to make women of every age,

every height, every size,
look and feel fabulous.

And today, designers,

that's where you come in.
-Indeed.

[contestants murmuring]

CORNELIUS: What's going on?
-Oh, wow.

There's a lot of them.
-Hey, ladies.

TASHA: Here comes
this army of women.

I mean, it's women coming
from the left, from the right,

from the north side,
south side,

women coming everywhere,

looking like a video.
-Yes.

-Oh, snap.

BRIK: Oh, my.
KIMBER: These ladies, like,

came out of nowhere,
even some of the women

that was sitting on a bench
started getting up.

I was like, "Oh, [bleep]."
[chuckles]

I knew these women had something
to do with it, I knew it.

-Here we have 100 women
of all ages, all sizes,

and they are all fabulous.

[applause]

TRACI: These are the kinds
of women who shop at JustFab.

All women.
We are fab for all.

-Your challenge is to create
a look that could make

any of these women, any size,
any shape, any age,

feel like the most fabulous
version of herself.

MAH-JING: The challenge is
to create a look that

can speak
to a variety of ladies.

-Wow.

The everyday woman is

a woman who is on the go.

A mom, a businesswoman,
a wife.

In a lot of ways,
it's--it's myself.

-Please remember
that versatility

and diversity
among your clientele

does not mean humdrum.

You are creating fashion.

TRACI: That's the key,

because...

we are going to reproduce
and sell the winning look

on JustFab.com.
-Oh, my God...

-I just graduated college,
and to get my outfit

featured in JustFab
would be absolutely amazing.

BRIK: I'm excited about this
challenge.

At the same time,
I'm wary, you know?

Like, if--if I understand
the meaning of that word,

'cause I can't Google right now.

-So, designers,
you have 30 minutes to sketch,

and then we're making
our first trip to Mood,

where you will
have a budget of $150.

And this is a one-day challenge.

You will be presenting your work
to the judges tomorrow.

ALEX: There's nothing
more spectacular

to me, as a designer,

than working with
the everyday woman.

I think of my mom,
I think of my stepmother.

So, I start sketching
a pair of pants

with more of a designed pleat,

and a basic tank top
with a great sheer top.

I am simply pumped.

LAURENCE:
I'm designing a jumpsuit.

When I do sketch,
it's just to give me

an idea of where I will go,

but I sketch and then I drape.

It changes all the time.

♪ ♪

-I'm seeing all these
architectural wonders.

The coat I'm gonna make
is transparent, but also

represents us being
in New York.

That's kind of influencing
the decisions I'm making

for my garment.

-All right, designers,
we are headed to Mood.

[contestants whooping]
Our first trip.

You have your budget of $150,

and you have 30 minutes to shop.
And your time starts...now!

-I really wanted
to go for volume

with this dress,
so I got neoprene

in the two colors
that I wanted:

this beautiful coral red...

And then also, I guess,
this one, too.

And then this, sort of,
baby blue

for the base of the dress.

-I like this.
-[chuckles]

♪ ♪

-Wait, are these real fur?
CLERK: A fox.

Real fox.
-They're...Oh.

Hmm, okay.

I'm like
a dog that sees a squirrel.

Squirrel? Squirrel?

I had to make sure
to stay focused.

And I didn't even have time
to really...

have a backup plan
or anything like that.

How's your ankle?

-My ankle is actually,
good, man.

-It's bossin', bossin' out?
-I don't even know how,

it's [bleep] good,
'cause it was so bad last night.

-Right, maybe because you
slept on it and weren't...

-I did a African prayer.

-Right.
[both chuckle]

LAURENCE:
I went to school for fashion

in Paris for about six years.

And I stopped,
I went on a modeling career

for 15 years,
and, uh, I restarted

designing about five years ago.

I think I was, like, eight
months pregnant when I, uh...

when I entered fashion school.
Nobody knew.

And having a kid at 16 was
the craziest experience

of my life.
It was tough.

So my dad actually,
um, find out

couple weeks before
I give birth, and, um,

I was no longer his daughter,
so he cut me off.

He passed away in '07.

We never talked.

We never talked again,
since I was 16.

I had to make peace with that.

My dad was my best friend.

Had to let him go.

[somber music]

But it's all good today.

Me and my daughter,
we close.

So, I guess it was worth it.

LINDA:
Oh, yeah?

CORNELIUS: Hey, Tim.
-Hi.

ALL:
Hi.

-How is everyone?
ALL: Great.

-I'm eager to see
what you're doing.

TRACI: Me, too.

-So, Alex, you were
the first designer

finished at Mood.

-Yeah,
I ran through that place.

-But you really knew
what you were doing.

You were dogged
and determined.

And this list is fantastic.

-Color-coded everything.

-Is this how you always work?
-Yeah.

-Well, my hat's off to you.

-I'm very OCD.
If it's not perfect, it's not...

it's not good to me.

I wanted to kind of
make a play of, like,

a nice, tapered pant.
-Uh-huh.

That had a little bit of
a structural quality to it.

-Okay.
-And then I'm doing

a chiffon button-down,

and just a basic camisole
underneath.

-Okay.
I think it's a really great

pant design.

-What concerns do you have?

-I wasn't happy
with my construction

on the last challenge.
-Where did you see the flaws?

-I'm just a...a critical, I--

I mean,
these are one-day challenges.

you can achieve.

Who do you see
the JustFab woman being?

-So, I was a--
I was really inspired

by all of the women
there today.

The first thing
I thought about was,

like, how to kind of,
like, maybe change,

like, a garment so it could be
two--like, worn two ways.

So, I kind of wanted to take
this fitted top.

-Okay.
-And then, like, it could be,

like, this sort of,
like, tent dress,

but then have this,
uh, mechanism,

where, like, it'll be like
a snap underneath this panel,

pull it over...
-Oh, so you could--

-You can wear it two ways.
-All right.

I mean, I like your explanation,
I-I get it.

Tasha.
-Hey, boss man.

-[laughs]
Is that my nickname?

-That's your nickname.
-Thank you, I'm very flattered.

-My JustFab girl
is the girl that's on a budget.

-What's the shape
of the skirt?

-Just a straight skirt.
-I'm just wondering,

is this personal enough?
-Hmm.

-I was gonna do
a play on menswear.

-Okay.
-And then just do, like,

a button-up, um,
shirt dress.

-Well, I-I have to tell you,
I have a-a personal

fondness for the shirt dress.
-Mm-hmm.

-And I love this riff on it.

-I don't know, like,
the drop crotch thing

is totally my thing.
I'm just worried how the judges

are gonna perceive that.
-As they say, throw the dice.

If you play it safe,
no one ever wins.

-Right. Got to take a chance.

-I'm arrested immediately.
-[chuckles]

-You have a knit.
-My idea is, um...

urban kimono.

I find, in my own life,
that I need

versatile clothing.
-I use that word repeatedly.

"Versatile."

-This is gonna be
underneath a coat.

-Oh.
-A sheer kimono jacket.

I'm going to have almost
mimicking this hole,

a very small opening here.
-Mm-hmm.

-It gives it a little bit of...
drama.

I'm hoping my design
will stand out to the judges,

and I also hope the versatility
of my design

and my coat will be appealing
to a lot of women.

-So, um, it's going
to be a dress.

I wanted it to have this
structural piece in the back,

so from the side,

the judges will get,
like, a visual of maybe

even like a hood,
but it's really not.

-Right.

-'Cause I don't want to
be safe anymore.

I have to,
like, get up there.

-I think that
this black and white piece

should be a separate.
-Mm-hmm.

-It just gives them more
options.

Given the innovation
of the jacket,

is the skirt too basic?

-Having this skirt
that has this

very screaming pattern,
it's...

-You're--
-I-I think it's very busy.

-That is the right answer.

-I was going to do it
in red, like,

a reddish-orange, but the denim
was speaking to me more.

-This design
is so much more impactful

ex*cuted in this denim.

-Okay.
-You have the potential here

to really knock
people's socks off.

how are you doing?

Made a lot of progress.

Yeah, I'm making a jumpsuit.

-How flattering will it be on

someone who's petite,

someone who's larger
than a twelve?

different sizes wear this?

I have to think
about that one.

LAURENCE: I've decided to

go back and redesign
my jumpsuit.

I'm going to change
the fashion of the sleeves

and the bottom
and change the drop crotch.

It was still a little drop,
but a little less.

-Brik.

How are you handling
this challenge?

-So far, I'm--I'm plowing
through it, I think.

-Okay.

BRIK: Being on the bottom
last week

helped me understand
my weaknesses more.

What I want to do
while I'm here is grow.

-How would you describe
your JustFab woman?

-Funky, casual,

not trying too hard.
-Okay.

-And modern.

This is, like,
the base of a jacket.

I also have this leather

that I was thinking of using
as a shoulder treatment.

And then a pant,
I wanted to do a,

a firm knit pull-on pant.
-Ah.

-You look worried.

-I think less is more
with this.

-So, I want to do, like,
an elongated, uh, b*mber

with a backwards kimono sleeve
and then a dress.

My heart is just pounding.

But I think she looks dope.

She looks how I wanted her
to look, so I feel good.

♪ ♪

RIK: I'm feeling very confident
about the look.

She's working the runway.

I feel my garment
definitely is something that

a normal woman would wear.

-I like your play
with the pattern.

♪ ♪

I feel that my pants
are absolutely on point.

I know that
this is the JustFab woman.

I couldn't be happier.

♪ ♪

JENNI:
I feel great about this.

It has just enough street funk,
but it also has

enough structure
for someone who is kind of

scared to try
something different.

KIMBER: I'm loving it.
It's really girly.

She could put on sneakers,
she could put on heels.

Whichever one
she choose to do.

I think it really does
represent me

and the everyday woman.

She looks amazing.

I'm feeling like the design
actually might work.

I know it doesn't look great,
but I hope to slide by,

because at least I took a risk.

NATHALIA: I'm hoping that the
judges see my aesthetic.

I think it looks clean
and polished.

I love the jacket.
It's very androgynous.

SARAH: The combination of
the two pieces

and the way
I accessorized it,

it really is about
the complete look,

and that's what
the JustFab woman want.

I think
the look is amazing.

MAH-JING:
It is sexy, confident,

my styling is on point.

The clutch adds
just a mite of texture,

and it picks up
on the tangerine stitching,

as well as the shoes.
I'm very happy.

-I want that dress.

CORNELIUS: She's very modern,
she's very hip.

I do have a pop of color
in there

that hopefully the judges
will notice.

I actually feel really good
about this look.

TASHA:
I'm loving the look.

I'm loving how I did
all the navies on top.

The look is good.
I'm confident in what I made.

I love it.

-The beanie is all that.

BRIK: I made a look that I feel
a lot of women

could incorporate
into their wardrobe.

I feel good about it.

♪ ♪

DEXTER: I'm sending out
something that feels

"me" and "everyday girl."

♪ ♪

It's nice, it's clean.
I feel good about it.

ROBERI:
The movement of the jacket

against the contrast
of the two pieces,

are, for me,
just amazing.

-Looks like a handmade,
delicious print.

ROBERI: It's simplicity,
but at the same time,

it's complex.
It's absolutely wearable

and beautifully made.

ERIN: I think that I have
the craziest look on the runway

just because of color.

I'm feeling very confident.

We slayed this.

that we really liked

and some that we didn't as much.

-Hi.

Tell us about your look.

-My woman in my head
has always kind of been,

like, this Upper East girl

that's not afraid to get
on a motorcycle,

and because we were looking
at all body shapes

and all types of women,
I went natural waist,

and it actually has a little bit
of an elastic back.

I really wanted to go
with the sheer top

so somebody can make it
their own,

with a color underneath.

-I really like this look, Alex,
I gave it a high score.

I think it looked,
from head to toe,

really polished.

-Thank you.
-I do love the bow

very, very much.
-Yes, me, too.

-I do love the pants
with the pockets.

-Yes.
-Very, very much.

-Yeah.
-I also like the sleeves.

Just the way
it drapes over and falls.

-It's really pretty.
HEIDI: Mm-hmm, it's nice.

-Yeah, it's very,
you know, Uptown,

Upper East Side fantasy.

I like the mystery
that you created

with textures
and proportions

and volumes there.

-Kimber,
tell us about your look.

-With this being, um,
A-line and high-low,

I thought of this being
the everyday woman.

Girls and women that,

either if they're slim
or if they're heavyset

or whatever, a lot of times,
the midsection is always

a part that a woman wants
to cinch in,

so I love making
the high-waist pant.

-I think that
when the coolest thing

on your outfit
is the model's hair,

we have a problem.

In terms of fashion,
it's okay.

It shouldn't be okay.
It needs to be fantastic.

-You know, as much as I agree

with a lot of the things
that you guys are all saying,

I do disagree
on a couple of things.

Yes, it is hard to wear
crop-tops in general.

She was considerate enough
to put the pant higher.

Also, the fact that there
was a pattern on top,

it does pop a little bit more,
with the darker pant.

It looks stunning.

-Laurence,
tell us about your look.

-I was thinking
about something cool

that every woman can wear,

and so I came up
with a jumpsuit.

Not too fitted.

I figured, if you have
a little booty to hide,

you could hide it in it,
or a little bit of belly.

And I did a little opening,

like, a little color
in the back,

and, uh, pockets,
and a drop crotch.

-Laurence, it is so easy,
and I feel like

that is something that really
any woman could wear.

Yes, I mean,
jumpsuits are no

new invention,
but at the same time,

you did bring
a lot of new little

design elements
to your jumpsuit.

You know, I love having
the little color in the back.

I love the pockets.

I love how you styled it
with the pumps.

That is my kind of girl.

-I think you had some really
interesting proportion play.

You took something
very utilitarian,

you know,
and played with themes.

I think it's very fresh
and current to the eye.

-It looks polished and sharp.

Even the detail of the bottom,
the ruching at the ankle,

it just gives it
that little bit of edge.

tell us about your look.

-I was thinking
about the urban woman.

The woman who may
have had children,

and wants to make sure she shows
the best parts of her body.

I have three kids.

I know my body's changed
quite a bit.

I was going for
an urban kimono,

uh, look, and so,
on the underneath,

I chose a gray knit,

which I thought
was really beautiful,

and I put a little peekaboo

in the top
just to give some relief.

I was going for it.

-Brik,
tell us about your look.

-The first thing that I thought
about was the girl.

And I thought of one
of my friends back home.

She works nine-to-five,

and she has a really good,

funky, eclectic aesthetic.

And it's always hard for her
to find a blazer to wear.

So I thought, "Huh, what if
I made just a really sharp,

"like, fit and flare jacket
with flattering lines that

"would work on a variety
of body types,

"and a pull-on pant
that is like a chic knit,

and a graphic print?"

-Well, last episode,

you had many personalities
in one design.

This time
you have no personality.

And the number one thing
less flattering

than a knit dress
is knit pants.

-I thought these were cute.

I would wear those.
-It's just hard to wear.

ZAC:
Can I see the back?

I have so little to say.

-[sputters]

ZAC: I don't know.
DOBREV: The first thing

that popped into my head was,
"Mullet?"

Business in the front,
party in the back.

And it feels like
it's business in the top,

and then couch party
on the bottom.

-Yeah, she cannot make up her
mind whether to go to work

or be a couch potato.

-Erin, please tell us
about your look.

-It was really amazing to see
these hundreds of women.

I really took off on
when Tim said, "Versatility."

And I was thinking about
different body shapes.

So, I kind of thought
it'd be cool if there was,

like, an outfit
that could change.

So, what I did is,
I made these flaps adjustable.

-Oh, wow.

Yeah. You can cinch it...

ZAC: Very smart.
DOBREV: Wow. Yeah.

HEIDI: Yeah, you can cinch it
at the waist.

Charming.
ZAC: Very. Really well done.

I mean, I love the
transformative quality of it.

I think it's effective,
in the neoprene.

Not the easiest fabric to wear,
for all body types.

But I think, you know,
it feels very high fashion.

And I think you've made
something very wearable.

I want to see how it looks

with the belt closed
from the back.

NINA: It's very...
ZAC: Oh, I think it's excellent.

NINA: Yes. Even...
ZAC: Excellent. Even better.

For me, this look really

stood out when I saw it,
and right--

seeing it right here,
in this sea of black and gray...

and you brought us color.

And I think that's a fun dress.
