The Golden Arrows squadron of Indian Air Force pilots achieves remarkable feats in aerial combat, securing India's victory in the Kargil w*r.

01x01 - Peace and w*r

Post by bunniefuu »

[wind howling]

[Khan] Hercules Formation, abort mission.

[Ahuja] Negative.
We can't return without Hyena Two.

[Khan] Hercules One, it is too risky.

There are stingers out there, Hercules.

[Ahuja] Nishi's alone.
I won't return without finding him.

[Khan] You're deviating from
your planned mission.

[radar lock-on beeping]

[long beep]

[Ahuja] Stinger spotted.

[Aziz over phone]
Chief, we have good news.

We just shot down
an Indian Air Force jet in Kargil.

Brilliant.

Now let's see

how many more pilots will
the Indian Air Force send to die.

[theme music playing]

[narrator] The India-Pakistan border

has been the epicenter
of w*r, suspicion and mistrust

for the past 52 years.

And last year, when both countries
conducted nuclear tests within months,

this mistrust reached its limit.

This time in history was labelled

the most dangerous series of events
post-World w*r II.

But after only seven months,
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee

on accepting Nawaz Sharif's invitation,

announced a historical
bus service to Lahore.

Now a question arises,

can the defense forces of both countries

accept this gesture of peace?

Gentlemen, peace or no peace,

this year too, the Western Command's
w*r game exercise

will be conducted as scheduled.

Like every year,
your flying skills, alertness,

innovation and bravery will be tested.

And as usual, all the squadrons
will be split into two teams.

Red Land and Blue Land.

However this year, for the first time,

Team Blue Land

will also have a photo-recce squadron
with them, the Golden Arrows,

led by Wing Commander Tony Dhanoa.

They will recce for Wolfpack,
the bombing squadron,

identify the target for them,
and post-strike also assess the damage.

In the coming month,

there will be five operational rounds.

Then the semi-finals and finals.

Any questions?

[squadron] No, sir!

Gentlemen, I had asked you
before this exercise started,

how according to you
your squadrons could become w*r-ready.

And I have received your requirements.

Jammer pods, self-defense systems,

advanced flying simulators,

and someone has put in
a demand for night vision goggles.

But Tony…

you haven't asked for a thing.

Sir, my squadron has
the youngest fighter pilots

from the Western Air Command.

They are Academy trained,

but flying the MiG-21
for the first time operationally.

Sir, both you and I know,

the MiG-21 has the fastest take-off
and landing speeds in the world.

So before being w*r-ready,

I want all of my boys
to be MiG ready, sir.

And I don't think we need
any equipment to do that.

What we actually need is a good coach.

And who is this coach?

Squadron leader Ajay Ahuja.

I can't think of anyone more capable
for shaping my boys into men.

[Ahuja] I'm sorry, Alka.

We have to keep moving all the time
because of me.

Sorry?

But I was just about to say thank you.

For what?

For all the new sarees I have.

At every posting,

all my old sarees become new again.

[Alka chuckles softly]

What's up, champion?

So tell me.

Fourteen times eight?

One, one, two.

[clicks tongue] Too slow.

Don't you want to be a fighter pilot?

A fighter pilot has to be able to solve
math problems in one second.

Seventeen hundred hours.
You better be ready.

There's an even bigger
swimming pool over here.

Okay, Papa.

- [kisses] Bye.
- Bye.

[engine stalling]

[Alka]
You're a a flight commander now.

At least get yourself a new motorbike.

[engine starts]

I have 16 MiGs, madam.

[chuckles]

[inspiring music playing]

If a flight commander rides
an obsolete, ancient scooter,

what impression would he leave
on the boys, huh?

Why does everyone hate my scooter so much?

Also, the way I see it,

our MiGs are a lot older
than my scooter, right?

Right, Tony sir?

There's that twisted logic again.

Come here, bring it in.

Welcome to Golden Arrows.

Good to see you again, Ahuja.

Thank you, sir.

[siren blaring]

Oh, wow.

Annual w*r Game exercise, sir.

Semi-finals.

It's time for the boys
to meet their new coach.

As the dedicated photo recce squadron,

our job is to fly low over the target
and take photos of it.

Then these photos are to be enlarged

and the exact strike coordinates are to be
shared with the bombing squadron.

The moment you cross this make-shift LoC,
your timer will start.

Forty-five seconds.

If you don't make it back
within 45 seconds,

Red Land's surface to air missiles
will lock on to you

and for all practical purposes,
you're dead.

Which means we lose points.

[Tony] And that cannot happen.

- Jai Hind, Sir.
- [squadron] Jai Hind.

[Tony] At ease, Arrows.

I want you to meet
your new Flight Commander.

Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja.

He was supposed to join tomorrow.

But I guess, he was dying to see you guys.

What do you think?

What exactly should our strategy be?

Sir, the enemy will have missiles.

Our missions should be flown
in radio silence.

[Tony] I'm not talking about that mission.

I'm actually talking about

the India-Pakistan Peace Summit
on February 19th.

For the first time in 52 years,

India's Prime Minister
is going to Pakistan by road.

I'd like to hear what you boys
think about this bus journey.

I think it's a good step, sir.

Both countries have nuclear weapons,

so a permanent solution needs to be found.

Well, sir, a permanent solution
is impossible.

Some tensions could ease, but that's it.

- But how?
- [Dhali] Mistake.

It's a big mistake, sir.

A country like Pakistan
can never be trusted.

Peace between India and Pakistan
is also vital.

Yeah, but the other country's intention
should also be the same, Baldy.

Ahuja, what do you think?

Sir, I don't think about
all these things at all.

Exactly. You shouldn't
think about these things.

Politics has nothing
to do with the Air Force.

We are razor blades.

We are trained to cut with precision

and not think about anything else.

We are 17 points behind.

If we don't score 20 points
in the semi-final,

no matter how many stunts we pull off,

the victory will go to Red Land.

Chou…

boys for the mission?

Dhali and Goofy.

Boys, this is the closest you'll ever get
to experiencing w*r.

It's a w*r you've never lost, sir.

And I'm not losing it this time either.

Go get me those points.

- Yes, sir.
- Yes, sir.

[cricket players shout indistinctly]

Pakistan Zindabad, sir.

Zindabad.

What brings you here?

The World Cup's around the corner,

so I thought I'd come
and encourage the players.

In fact, the players are not
very different from soldiers.

We're always preparing for the next w*r.

Very true, sir.

[Pervez] Junaid was just six years old

when he wanted to become a fast bowler.

It's amazing you still remember that.

Of course, Tauqir.

Inshallah, very soon he'll play
for the Pakistan cricket team.

Not while Younis, Akhtar, Akram
are all still in the team.

Looks difficult.

Listen, Tauqir,

when his own father is about to become

the chairman of
the Pakistan Cricket Board,

- why would it be difficult?
- Sir?

The PCB will get a new chair in December.

Who better to lead this post for us

than the star sportsman
of the Pakistan Army?

The Pakistan team
is a really big responsibility.

Are you afraid of responsibility?

No, sir.

Can you get Pakistan
another World Cup victory?

I will do my best.

[uneasy music playing]

Then I'm sure Tauqir, you can get
Kashmir for Pakistan as well.

Kashmir, sir?

Every year,
both countries withdraw their armies

from the snow covered mountains
of Kashmir.

As per the Shimla Agreement.

And your office as DGMO
is the one to give these orders, right?

Right, sir.

But this time, our soldiers
will stay where they are.

But it'll be a violation
of the Shimla Agreement.

This is also a direct violation
of the LoC,

because this time
our soldiers will move forward

across the Line Of Control

to capture all the posts
which will be vacated by the Indian Army

as they honor the Shimla Agreement.

Especially those posts from
where India's National Highway One

will be in direct line of sight for us.

But sir, PM Nawaz Sharif is about to hold
peace talks with India.

So?

Pardon me, sir.

Is the Prime Minister aware
of this operation?

This is an army operation, General Zia.

Why do we need
to involve the Prime Minister?

[Nawaz] Are the posters
for the peace talks ready?

Sir, the layout is ready.

Is the meeting with Faiz's daughter fixed?

No, sir, actually--

[Nawaz] Mr. Vajpayee is a huge fan
of Faiz's poetry.

[spraying cologne]

Do this on a priority, please.

Sure, sir.

Sir, your father is asking for you.

The cabinet has been waiting for a while.

[Nawaz] Hmm.

- [man 1] Should we get the chopper ready?
- [man 2] There are so many mistakes.

Mr. Aqil,

Mr. Vajpayee will be
the first Indian Prime Minister

of India to set foot on Minar-e-Pakistan.

Understand the significance
of these talks.

- You go ahead. Please have a seat.
- Yes, sir.

Tell me, what's the agenda
for today's meeting?

- Just the peace talks, sir.
- Okay.

Our suggestion is that during these talks

we, uh, propose the Chenab River
as the new Line of Control, sir.

Look, uh…

This will be the LoC…

which will be visible even from the moon.

[Nawaz scoffs]

Haven't we discussed this before?

This 80-20 division in favor of Pakistan
will never be accepted by India.

Sir, the Chenab River divides

the Hindu-Muslim population
of Kashmir evenly.

This is a great resolution
for the conflict.

Mr. Aziz…

I'm the one who's been speaking
to Mr. Vajpayee every day.

He'll never agree to this.

[Muhammad] Nawaz…

you are free to continue your
friendly conversations with him.

But for the actual negotiations

follow Mr. Aziz's lead.

He is far more experienced
in diplomatic talks

than all of us put together.

Yes, Father.

[uneasy music playing]

[Aziz] May we proceed
with the Indian draft, sir?

[Muhammad]
What's your opinion on this, Mr. Aziz?

Sir, the Chief has assigned
all the important army positions

to his own men.

So?

So, sir, our political history
clearly shows that

whenever the army
has expanded its influence,

it hasn't really under--

Mr. Butt, we bypassed three of his seniors
and appointed him as the Army Chief.

If he wants to enjoy the power of being
an Army Chief for now, let him.

What does it matter?

Sir, it is a matter of border positions.

If the Chief tries to be
adventurous in the valley,

the ISI's long-term Kashmir plan
may be at risk.

Also, it's only my duty to warn you, sir.

Absolutely.

And my job
is to understand the difference.

You just focus on ISI operations,
and not on General Musharraf.

The new Flight Commander
doesn't seem like a commander at all.

You don't gauge an engine's power
from the jet's body, Goofy.

Does the mission seem right to you?

Bad weather above
and anti-aircraft g*ns below.

Danger everywhere.

Of course, it seems right.

Perfect

Happy landings, Goofy.

[ATC 1] Trident taxy via link
Alpha Runway 27-QNH-1002

Link Alpha, Runway 271002.

[ATC 2] Copied. Trident in sequence.

[ATC 3] Trident sequence monitored.

- Sir.
- Hmm?

[ATC 4] Vanguard Control,
Trident formation ready to take off.

[engine humming]

[jet engine roaring]

Were these rolls part of the briefing?

Sir, that's Flying Officer Dhaliwal.

Very talented.

And a bit of show-off as well.

[grunts, laughs]

Whoo!

[scoffs]

Can we go to the Ops room?

Sure, sir.

Sir, will you be attending
the debrief today?

On my first day?

I think today I'll just observe.

- Hmm.
- Right-o, sir.

Sir, message from met department.

Heavy cloud patch in Trident's route.

- Sir?
- Safety first always.

Break RT silence. Alert them.

- [beep]
- Trident Vanguard control…

exercise caution for large cloud build up.
There's a heavy patch coming your way--

[Dhali] RT silence scan.
Whatever it is, I'll handle it.

Trident two, Vanguard control.

Exercise caution for large cloud build up
in sector, 040, 30 kilometers.

[Goofy]
Roger copy, Trident two.

[Dhali] With an RT silence,
you really wanna gossip on Channel 2?

[Goofy] Dhali, what are you doing, man?
It's a cloud alert.

[Dhali] We are still in the air,
aren't we, Goofy?

Just follow my lead.

This is a semi-final mission.

No matter what, we complete it on time.

[Goofy] Vanguard control Trident two.

The leader isn't responding.
Going ahead as planned.

[scanner beeping]

[thunder rumbles]

[thundering]

[straining]

[breathing heavily]

[scanner beeps]

[softer beeps]

Trident formation, lost joy on you.

- [thunder rumbles]
- [breathing heavily]

Trident formation, confirm monitored.

[Dhali] Oh, sh*t!

[Goofy] Dhali!

[Dhali] Whoo! [laughs]

[Goofy panting]

[scanner beeping steadily]

Trident formation, confirm ops normal.

Trident formation, confirm ops normal.

[Goofy] Affirmative, heading to the party.

[Khan] Close shave, boys,
but the mission is just starting,

and you have only 45 seconds.

Go get those points.

[timer beeping]

Trident formation is approaching target.

[camera shutter clicking]

[Dhali] Mission completed.
Heading back to base.

Sir, Trident formation
is heading back to base.

I've changed my mind, Chou.

I…

would like to attend the debriefing.

[engine roaring]

[tires screeching]

- Sergeant, take the cam to the PIC room.
- Sir.

- [Goofy panting]
- Are you okay?

Wasn't it a bit much?

But you felt the rush, right?

Goofy, why did you…

follow the mission instead of aborting it?

Sir, the leader had asked me to follow,
so aborting the mission was not an option.

Textbook wingman call.

Well done.

And you?

The ground orders were clear,

so why did you…

take the risk of flying into the cloud?

For the 20 points of the mission, sir.

There was a high risk of both pilots
colliding in cloud flying.

Did you factor that in?

Sir, we've been flying together
for a year.

We completely trust each other.

And suppose…

you got completely disoriented
while flying through the cloud?

We can easily reorient, sir.

We're the only squadron that
has a Global Positioning System.

Grounded.

For one week.

No sorties.

I'm sorry, sir?

You're restricted
to only ground duties for a week.

Bird clearance, paperwork,

and you'll interpret sortie photos
taken by other pilots as well.

Pardon me sir, but why?

Completing the mission was important,
and I just took a calculated risk.

Sir, if we didn't do this, we…
we would've lost,

and everyone would've
blamed the Golden Arrows.

It's as simple as that, sir.

And there was no other way.

Does everyone feel the same?

That…

that there was no other way to do this?

There was, sir,

another way.

Go on, Baldy. Explain.

Sir, the dog-leg maneuver.

They could have gone around the cloud.

And what about the time
it would've taken to re-route?

It would've taken two minutes at most.

The length of the cloud
was ten kilometers,

and detouring around the cloud
would mean another 20 kilometers.

What about the extra fuel
it would take to go around it?

Sir, at a speed of 800,

whatever fuel would have been required

for the ten-kilometer difference…

I guess more fuel than that would probably
be spent to manage the cloud's turbulence.

So I think dog-leg was a safer
and more efficient option.

[Dhali scoffs]

Clearly, whatever is safe for me

is probably dangerous
for our dear professor.

And it's fine. Every pilot has their
own risk-taking capacity--

So you're saying you agree?

that there was another way.

Sir, at that time
I was the one in the air.

You weren't there and neither was he.

And if this had been an actual w*r,
would we have gone around--

Grounded for two weeks, Dhaliwal.

Let's save risks for a real w*r.

We are not at w*r right now.

[wind howling]

[phone ringing]

[Javed] Assalam alaikum, Chief,

I have an urgent update for you.

Lieutenant General Aziz

and Lieutenant General Mahmood
are both on the line.

[Pervez] Tell me.

Sir, according to our plan,

soldiers from our
12th NLI have already captured

eight vacant Indian posts.

But as soon as they moved forward,

they encountered many hidden posts

which we were unaware of.

Clearly India has been
guarding NH1 like it's a fortress.

And now, when India is honoring
the Shimla Agreement

and has vacated all the posts,

we should take advantage of this, sir.

I think we should take them all, sir.

Hasan, to hold posts in such a large area,

we will have to cancel the winter leave
of 3,000 to 4,000 soldiers.

We are already breaching
the Shimla Agreement

by crossing the LoC during winter.

Taking these posts would be
an invasion of 200 square kilometers.

General Mahmood, tell me one thing.

Do you set out to capture Kashmir
every day?

No, sir.

[exhales]

Then you will never get an opportunity
better than this one.

General Hassan?

Yes, sir.

Capture all those posts right away.

They will never expect us to be able
to pull off something like this.

Our audacity will become
our strength in this operation.

Draft a list of the supplies.

I'm sending Tauqir Zia to you.

Pakistan Zindabad.

- Pakistan Zindabad, sir.
- Pakistan Zindabad, sir.

- Dhali.
- Hmmm

I have good news.

The bombing squadron has destroyed
Red Land's comms base.

and we've won the semi-finals.

- I'm aware.
- Yeah, that's obvious.

But I've received my next posting.

Mirage Squadron.

Mir…

From a family car straight to a Ferrari.

[all laugh]

Whoa!

Congratulations, Sangy.

[sighs] Well hopefully,
you won't have to deal

with a Flight Commander there who would
ground you just for taking risks.

Forget about him, Dhali.

You've won us the semi-finals, man.

- Let's go celebrate that.
- [Dhali scoffs]

Come on, drinks on me tonight.

No, you guys enjoy.
I'm not in the mood, thank you.

It is unfair.

Should we go talk to him together?

- Let's see what Ahuja Sir says.
- Yeah, let's see.

He's the Flight Commander.

What's the point of talking to him?
He can do whatever he feels like.

He may be the Flight Commander,
but we're also Bachelors.

We can't argue with him…

but we can mess with him.

Let's go.

Uh, where is Mr. Professor?

Probably where he goes every evening.

- [all chuckle]
- Let's go, then.

[woman over phone]
Bala, do you love me or not?

What a weird question. Of course I do.

So will you elope with me?

Madhavi, I'm not even
a Flight Lieutenant yet.

I'm still in training over here and…

And I really don't think
this is the right time.

There's a lot of pressure from my parents.
Please try to understand.

[motorcycle honking]

Bouncing?

You guys carry on.

You don't have a choice.

[motorcycle engines idling]

Madhavi, I'll…
I'll call you in an hour, okay?

[line disconnects]

Hello?

She hung up.

[turns off engine]

[ringing doorbell]

[soft chuckling]

[indistinct conversation]

[door opens]

[soft murmuring]

- Good evening, ma'am.
- Hello, ma'am.

Aren't you boys a little late?

Bachelors from the last squadron had come
to bounce on the second day itself.

Your team is here.

Finally.

Welcome home, boys.

Uh, I don't drink.

But I serve.

This bar is all yours. Help yourself.

Dhali, you're on a roll tonight.

[Dhali] I'm on my second.
He's on his seventh.

- Seventh drink?
- It's free, isn't it?

- He only drinks when he's bouncing.
- [all laugh]

He'll never pay…
He'll never pay for his own drinks.

- Huh?
- Come on.

Start chopping.

We'll make my special recipe tonight.

You boys want to eat, right?

- [all] Yes.
- So, then get to it.

What are you looking at?

This house belongs to Alka Ma'am.

I only live here.

Come on, come on. Hmm.

I'll chop the carrots, okay.

Potatoes.

It seems like we got screwed
on our own bouncing.

[all laughing]

By the way, these two seem to be
more in sync than us.

What are you all whispering about?

If you had to talk amongst yourselves,
then why even bother the bouncing?

Let's all hear it, come on.

Uh, sir, actually, uh, Max was asking

when will the finals of the w*r game
exercises be held?

[Alka] Mm-mm.

Bouncing rule number one of this house.

Nobody is allowed to talk about flying.

[Sangy] Oh. We won't talk about flying.

- [Goofy] We won't.
- Sorry.

[Ahuja] Thank you, Sangy.

[Dhali] But ma'am, this rule is wrong.

If my house had such a rule,
I would've never become a fighter pilot.

This conversation is allowed.

Rajendra Dhaliwal, Ma'am.

My father, he was also in the Air Force.

Ground Duty Officer.

And my mother used to cook amazing food.

So all fighter pilots used to come
for bouncing at our house.

I used to hear everyone's flying stories,

and I got the bug as well.

So where's your father posted now?

- He retired.
- [Dhali] He retired.

Wing Commander Dhaliwal.

'69 batch.

Disciplined officer.

I'd met him briefly in Tezpur.

Hold on.

Ahuja Sir generally knows
everything about everyone,

but I don't know anything.

So how did the rest of you, uh,
catch this bug of flying?

[Max chuckling]

- Hmm?
- Huh?

[Dhali] Sangy.

Um, Ma'am, for us, the only way
to get out of town was the army.

My father, grandfather,
they were both were in the army.

But neither of them could ever
fight in a w*r.

So, I am just, uh,
trying to repay that debt to the country.

Ma'am, he, uh, doesn't drink that often,

so he's always stuck between
debt and duty.

[laughter]

[hissing]

[squadron exclaims]

[Sangy] Ma'am…

when you said "special", I thought
of something completely different.

I never thought that even pilaf
could be this tasty.

What is in it?

Thank you so much for the dinner, ma'am.

I'll have to take your leave.

I have an urgent call to make.

But who's gonna do the dishes?

You forgot the tradition?

Baldy, why don't you just
make a call from here?

We have long distance calling.

Yeah, go ahead.

[Goofy] Sir, he needs a public booth
for a private call.

[all laughing]

You can leave, Baldy.

- Thank you.
- Dhali, you'll do

Baldy's share of the dishes, okay?

Yeah. Sure, Ma'am.

But who is she, Professor?

You're ditching
the whole squadron for her.

No one, Dhali, it's…

It's just an urgent family call.
See you all tomorrow.

Thank you, sir. Thank you, ma'am.

But, what is this family emergency
that just came up?

Dhali, wallet.

- I'll get you the contact.
- Dhali.

You must have a picture
of whoever you're calling.

- I'm just checking.
- Dhali, please.

- Wait a minute, I just saw something.
- Dhali, enough!

[cutlery clanking]

[grunts softly]

I'll get the first aid for you.

- No, no, ma'am. I'm completely fine.
- [Alka] No, no, you're not.

- I'll get it.
- I am absolutely fine, ma'am.

Sir.

Sir, I can say with absolute certainty
that this man is planning something.

He's up to no good.

You should not trust him too much, sir.

General.

We were just about to begin. Please.

Prime Minister, you called me urgently.
Is everything okay?

Mr. Butt has some concerns.

I thought we could
discuss them over breakfast?

I've already had breakfast, thank you.

I'll just have some fruit.

So, Mr. Butt.

What concern does the ISI have?

[Mr. Butt] My concern is that

you have cancelled the winter leave
of thousands of Tenth Corps soldiers.

Why are they being sent to Skardu?

So much movement of troops
on the LoC during the peace talks?

It's a little alarming.

[munching]

Sir, we have information
that some mujahideen

have been planning
to infiltrate the valley.

They want to de-rail the peace talks.

As ISI Chief, you haven't received
any of this intel till now, maybe.

Sir, we've had to cancel
the leave of many people

in order to keep the peace
at the border.

And many of our soldiers
have been posted there.

Which means you're doing all of this

for the security of the peace talks?

Yes, sir. Of course.

Very thoughtful.

Sir, there has been a power struggle

between the army and the government
for many years.

I want to bring about a change.

I would like to show the people
that Rawalpindi and Islamabad

can play on the same ground, sir.

We can both work together.

You see, Mr. Butt? Didn't I tell you?

You don't need to worry
about General Musharraf at all.

[chuckles] He's on our team.

[siren wails distantly]

I'm sorry, ma'am.

I've checked a couple of times.

Your name isn't in
the approved visitors list.

Sir, if you could just
let me speak to Bala…

Uh, Flying Officer Bal Reddy once, please.

He'll explain everything to you.

Sorry, ma'am.
There is an exercise underway.

Nothing can be done.

Then let me speak to the CO.
Tony Sir, right?

[footsteps running]

Sorry, sir.

I… didn't know that…

Madhavi was going to come here.

Chou.

- Sir.
- Is it possible to put her up

in the VIP Guest House?

Fully occupied, sir.

Sir.

She can stay at our place.

Alka and I will be happy to host Madhavi.

[Tony] Okay, then.

Baldy, you can get back to work.

Yes, sir.

[Ahuja] The siren for the w*r Game finals

can go off at any moment.
We need to be ready.

Our target is going to be
Red Land's key airbase.

But this time, we take photos after,

and not before the bombing,

so that we can find out if every b*mb fell
on its target or not.

Battle damage assessment.

It's a lot more dangerous
than photo recon flying.

Because we won't have
the element of surprise with us.

Their radars are going
to be waiting for us.

And not to forget surface-to-air m*ssile.

So this time
we're going to try a new strategy

which will be useful to us
not just in w*r games,

but in an actual w*r as well.

If this is the enemy's radar screen…

then how many dots will you see on it?

Uh, sir… six.

[Ahuja] Exactly.

Six jets in close formation.

So close that the enemy's radar screen
shows only one big dot on it.

And the enemy should believe
that it's one big transport aircraft.

Until the target,
we'll fly in close formation

and break our formation
at the last minute,

and take photographs.

And after taking the photos,

before their interceptors arrive,

we would have already crossed the mock LoC

into friendly skies.

Clear?

What's wrong, boys? Too risky?

Dhali?

I was planning to reinstate you.

Well, if you can't do this, then--

No, we… we can do it, sir.

We… we'll do it.

[Ahuja] Come again?

[squadron] We'll do it, sir.

Good.

And Dhali, this time
you won't be flying with Goofy.

I've already shuffled your wingmen.

Go check the flying program board.

[Dhali] Baldy, call in position.

I'm at 700. Match my speed.

[ticking]

[Baldy] In position.

[Dhali] Now maintain position, Baldy.

[scanner beeping]

Sangy joining up. Goofy, call in position.

[Goofy] Goofy joining up.

[Teekay] Teekay joining up.

[Max] Max joining up.

[Dhali] Tridents,
the diamond formation is complete.

Let's maintain speed.

Let's not mess it up, guys.

[Sangy] Baldy, too close, too close.
You're falling behind.

[Baldy] Sorry, Sangy, maintaining.

[Sangy] Baldy, it's not
a school bus, man, maintain 700.

Dhali, should we reduce speed
and match up to Baldy?

[Dhali] Negative. The mission has
to be carried out at 700.

- [Sangy] Baldy, increase your speed.
- [Baldy] Roger, increasing.

[scanner beeping]

[Dhali] Formation stable at 700.

Ready to turn left.

Baldy, be on guard.

Tridents, turn left 053.

Formation stable at turn,
accelerate to 750 now!

[Sangy]
Baldy, what the hell are you doing?

- You're lagging again.
- [breathes shakily]

[Dhali] Baldy, you're not even close
to MAC 1. Maintain 750.

[Baldy] I'm… I'm trying.

[Sangy] Why aren't you listening?
Let's maintain speed with Baldy.

[Dhali] Negative, let's stick to 750.

Everyone, 750 now.

[Sangy] Baldy, what's wrong with you?
We'll collide.

Teekay, peel off! Now!

[Teekay] Teekay peeling off

[Sangy] Arrows, peel off!
Abort! Abort! Abort!

[Dhali] Come on, guys.

[low chatter]

Sit, sit, sit, please.

What happened? What the hell
are you all so sad about?

It was just practice.

It wasn't some
w*r exercise mission, right?

Another round for everyone, please.

Sangy?

We usually celebrate life
after close calls, don't we?

We do, sir, but today's call
was a bit too close.

We almost collided.

[Tony] Mm-hmm?

Sir, maybe because we were flying
in formation of six for the first time

which is why staying in sync
with each other

was a little difficult.

[Baldy] No sir, it was my fault.

Sir, it was my fault. I…

I was struggling to…

match Dhali's speed up there.

Sir, the problem was
in the exercise selection.

Okay.

Sir, Ahuja Sir makes us do
extremely risky exercises.

Which is fine with me.
I'm… I'm up for it.

But suddenly changing
my wingman, sir, that's…

How do we achieve perfection?

"Suddenly"?

When a random technical glitch happens
in the air, it happens suddenly.

And when it comes to deciding to eject,

no one leaves home thinking
they'll have to eject that day.

It all happens suddenly.

I haven't called Ahuja here to conduct
routine exercises with all of you.

I've invited him here
so he can make you all w*r ready.

Because when a w*r breaks out…

it happens suddenly.

If you really consider
yourselves fighter pilots…

then you must have the courage
to accept every challenge.

Don't complain about it.

We're meant to be razor blades, right?

[squadron] Yes, sir.

Then bloody behave like one.

[foreboding music playing]

Pakistan Zindabad.

Pakistan Zindabad.

Welcome to Skardu, sir.

Hassan.

What the hell are these mujahideen
doing at the army base?

This way, sir.

I'll explain it to you.

[unsettling music playing]

So the Pakistan Army is going to work
with the mujahideen now?

Do you really think
they are the mujahideen?

Then the Indians
will also think believe it.

They will also believe
that the Pakistan Army

has nothing to do with this infiltration.

Because we will only
talk to them in Pashto.

But the truth is
that they are not mujahideen.

These are 2,000 soldiers
from our 12th NLI.

- [soldier, in Arabic] Nara-e-Takbeer!
- [soldiers] Allahu Akbar!

- [soldier] Nara-e-Takbeer!
- [soldiers] Allahu Akbar!

- Nara-e-Takbeer!
- [soldiers] Allahu Akbar!

- [soldier] Nara-e-Takbeer!
- [soldiers] Allahu Akbar!

- [soldier] Nara-e-Takbeer!
- [soldiers] Allahu Akbar!

Sir.

You had mentioned eight posts
and 100 soldiers.

But the kind of preparations
being carried out in Skardu

is nothing less than a w*r, sir.

General Zia, you look quite fresh today.

It's like the crisp mountain air
suits you.

General Zia, the more posts
that we end up capturing,

the more pressure we can put on India.

Sir, no doubt,
we can hold off the Indian Army

with the height advantage.

But what if they end up getting
their air force involved?

We have asked
the German and Russian air forces

and double checked this.

It's impossible for any air force,

to operate in that terrain
and at those heights.

And this is a proven fact.

Sir, I still feel the least we can do
for our soldiers on those peaks

is arm them with Stinger missiles.

The mujahideen.

They are not our soldiers.
They are the mujahideen.

You understand?

You are the DGMO, right?
So give them the Stinger missiles.

What's wrong?

But sir, Stinger missiles
are not regular weapons.

We will surely need
the PM's approval for mass mobilization.

You don't have to worry so much, Tauqir.

If Pakistan wants to get Kashmir
from India,

then we will have to put in
some more effort.

When the time is right,

I'll go to the PM myself
and get all the necessary approvals.

We must snatch Kashmir.

[dramatic instrumental music playing]

[music continues]
