- WILLIE: Previously on "The Real World"--

- How much longer do you think they'll be?

- Last time I was four minutes, the meeting had already started.

- Guys thinks we should start without 'em?

- We need you guys to be on time.

I don't like being a disciplinarian.

- M.J. wasn't cool with me sleeping in his bed.

So over it.

When I can't have something, I hate it.

Just eats and digs at me.

- ♪

- This is the true story--

- --of seven strangers--

- Oh my God!

- --picked to live in a house--

- --work together, and have their lives taped--

- --to find out what happens-- - I'm over it.

- --when people stop being polite.

- Oh shut up.

--and start getting real.

- ALL: "The Real World: Philadelphia"!

- [bell dings]

- [cars honking]

- Would you not say that Broadway would be harder to do

and you're so much more talented than somebody

who's like in cinema?

- If you don't have talent, you're not gonna be on Broadway.

But if you're trained in theater,

like I am--I'm training in theater originally--

you can do anything.

- Mel Gibson was big-time, he was like Shakespearean theater--

- Can we not talk about Mel Gibson?

I don't like him anymore. - Really?

- Not anymore. - Oh, I wanna know.

- What?

- I just wanna know why you don't like him.

- "Passion of the Christ" and the story.

- Why?

- Because it's anti-Semitic.

I have experienced antisemitism from people who just don't know

I'm Jewish.

- Did you guys go see "The Passion of the Christ"?

- My friend did, she told me all about it,

because I refuse to support him financially.

- Come away with it going, you know, "Screw the Jews."

I just come away with it like, "Damn,

he went through hell to forgive me of my sins. He died"--

- Based on that document that was written years

after his death. - That I happen to believe,

and you don't.

- I've just always been around people who are very informed

on things that they're talking about.

And the only information that he's providing me is what his

church told him, and that is not a legitimate source for me.

--believe it, I'm just saying that I believe--I like the

Torah, I like what it provides me, which is the Old Testament,

but I don't take it literally, because you should never take it

literally, because it was written by man.

I'm sorry if I'm offending anybody, but--

- You're not offending me at all.

Sarah knows a lot.

Now, it's whenever she starts telling her opinion on

everything, whenever I turn it off.

Where did you study this at?

- Emory.

- ♪

- What was the class? - Huh?

- What was the class? - Religion.

- Emory's a Jewish college?

- No, it's Methodist.

So, you--you're just trying to say that I was taught

this because--

- Nobody is pointing figures at you, Sarah, my God.

- That's what it sounds like. - Chill out.

Me and people like you are stuck in their ways and the way that

they believe-- - I'm not stuck in my way.

I'm saying that you shouldn't like--it's a guideline for

having value.

- That's your belief then.

- And I'm not telling you what's right or what's wrong.

- Oh, I know you're not, 'cause I don't listen to you.

I mean, that's your point. - You don't listen to me?

- Well, it's not like I take it and absorb it.

- No, the only reason that it gets offensive to me is just

because of my personal experiences.

- And I've already told you that.

I understand that, you don't have to explain yourself

on everything. - I just like to debate.

I've always been this way.

That's the way that I was raised.

- Well, I don't.

- I just have this strong sense that he has never had a female

talk to him this way.

M.J. can't appreciate hearing somebody else's views.

If M.J.'s gonna take everything so personally,

then he can just live his life that way.

- Oh, I'm not changing you, and you're not changing me,

so why the [bleep] talk about it?

- You're telling me that I should argue the way you argue.

- No, I'm just saying I don't wanna hear you.

[laughs] Period.

I mean, is that not the best way to put it?

- It's a very harsh and rude way to put it.

Wow.

- I love how like a conversation about religion is a

conversation of disrespect towards each other.

- Yeah, that's an isolated incident, you know?

- I think the ideal woman for M.J.

is blond and doesn't really have much of an opinion.

I don't think that M.J. truly

has respect for strong females.

I'm sorry you don't have conversations beyond like what

beer you wanna drink and what the blonde's a*s looked like.

- ♪

- It's just like culture shock moving from Nashville

to somewhere like this.

I graduated last year. And then--

- [indistinct chatter]

- She's one of my best friends.

- Kim actually knows some girls that I graduated

from college with.

- ♪

- Yes, you do know how to dance.

- ♪

- I will still flirt.

That is just human nature, but there's a certain point to

where, you know, I'm not gonna cross.

- ♪

- M.J.: Get me out of here.

Seriously trying to...be good.

But you have no idea how hard it is.

- --how hard it is. [laughs]

- There she is right there.

- Easy hormones. [laughs]

- No, that's what I'm trying to do.

How--how much for one rose?

- Three dollars. - Three bucks?

- Yes, sir.

- [cheering]

- ♪

- M.J.: That place was fun tonight though.

- LANDON: She's a nice looking girl.

- She is friends with girls that I graduated--

- Shut up.

- But if I was a single man, what--and I am a single man,

but if I wasn't like--

- LANDON: Semi-attached?

- Yeah.

Because of, like I said, I've turned over a new leaf.

There are more temptations here in Philly than...most people

could ever deal with.

And I'm so proud of myself for being able to resist those.

- I was just like, "Look at M.J.

working that [bleep]." - But I'm not.

No, but it's just like I'm trying to...simmer down now.

- ♪

- Almost.

I'm bad, but I'm not as bad as as I wanna be.

- ♪

- I'm ready to go, I'm drunk.

I have to wake up at ! ! !

I'm so drunk.

- [indistinct chatter]

- Hold on, I'll be done in a half hour.

- I just wanna know the time, bro.

- A half hour, shut the [bleep] up.

- Willie is a mess.

He's just--I don't know, he's drunk,

and he's--he's wiling out.

- ♪

- I'm ready, let's go though. For real.

Hold on.

- Me too.

- ♪

- I'm ready to go. Where's Amarosa?

- He went back. - Without me?

- He went home. - Roma's not with me!

- ♪

- I just snorted.

- It's all good.

- We were at lunch today, and it was me, Sarah,

M.J., and Willie.

And Sarah's very smart and educated.

They start talking about "Passion of the Christ."

- I need to tell Ashley that I truly care about her,

but I can't even talk to Ashley.

Vonda's, you know--hell, she is always on the phone.

I need the phone. How much longer?

- Do you want me to get off the phone?

- No, I'm just sitting here watch you talk.

- I can see him out of the corner of my eye.

M.J.'s standing against the door just looking at me,

so I start to get that adrenaline pumping,

and I'm starting to get nervous.

Okay, I'm about to get pissed.

- SHAUN: What did M.J. say that's gonna piss you off?

- He's like, "I'm gonna stand right here

until you get off the phone." I'm not getting off the phone.

He can kiss my a*s.

The more M.J.'s aggravating me and pushing me, the more

mad and upset I'm beginning to get.

What's up?

- [unintelligible]

- Huh? I'm having a really private conversation.

Can you step out for a second?

- How much longer? - Like ten more minutes.

- I'm not gonna be rude, but in ten more minutes,

I will be rude.

- Is that a threat, M.J.?

- Yeah, it is.

- Okay, I'm just gonna go.

I'm really getting upset. I gotta go.

- SHAUN: Babe. - No, I'm starting to get

really mad, I'm gonna go.

- SHAUN: Don't cry, no, I'm not telling you go like this, babe.

- You do not talk to me like that.

Don't [bleep] disrespect me.

I'm not disrespecting you.

- ♪

- They come home, M.J. walks in and goes,

"I need to use the phone."

I go, "Are you drunk?" He's like, "Yeah."

I'm like shaking right now, I was like, "Don't disrespect me.

I didn't disrespect you."

I didn't disrespect anybody. [sobs]

You don't [bleep] threaten me.

You don't threaten me at all.

That's a good way to like [bleep] up

a friendship real fast.

And I'm not crying 'cause I'm sad,

I'm crying 'cause I'm so mad.

When a man talks down to me, for some reason,

it just doesn't hit me right.

- [phone ringing]

- ASHLEY'S VOICEMAIL: Hey, this is Ashley.

I'm unavailable to take your call--

- [dial tone hums]

- I don't get disrespected by men.

Men do not talk down to me like that.

- Where Shavonda's been in an a*usive relationship,

and I think...how M.J.

came at Shavonda is kind of threatening to Shavonda,

really affected her, and kind of brought her back to issues that

she's had to deal with in the past.

- With my ex-boyfriend, we had a very combative,

angry relationship.

I've been choked.

I've been pushed.

I've been body slammed.

- He hates when we have opinions.

It's never--any of the other guys have opinions, it's fine.

When the three of us-- - Oh, when we were at Northern--

- What are you guys talking about over here?

- Shavonda was kind of hurt.

- What were you hurt by?

- Nothing.

- Obviously it's something.

- You just came at me wrong, it doesn't sit well with me,

and that's why I got so upset.

I came up here to talk to Sarah, 'cause I was crying.

Like I don't like being disrespected.

But you just came at me with an attitude, I was like,

"What did I do to you?"

- I guess my biggest thing was I just wanted to use the phone.

- I under-- - No, and--no, and I did.

And I probably was disrespectful,

and I apologize for that.

But I mean, I really don't feel like it's something that's a big

freaking deal that like you should cry about.

- "You might not think it was a big deal."

I hate when guys say that.

Don't dismiss my feelings.

Listen to me, and I will explain to you why I'm upset.

- There is an issue as far as you're on the phone

all the time.

- But I don't remember not wanting to get off when someone

said, "Hey, Vonda, you know, how much longer?"

- You get so hurt when somebody like--like asserts something--

- Why are you getting so mad?

- I'm not, but--'cause you're so upset,

and because I don't understand, and I'm sorry like

if I hurt you or-- - Seriously,

don't--don't apologize if you don't know what

you're apologizing for, you know what I'm saying?

- Once I realized that she's upset,

then I wanna straighten it out.

I do apologize.

And now that I know, like sometimes it takes something

like this to know somebody's limits.

I'm sorry, baby.

- Alright. [sobs] - I really am.

- ♪

- Bless you, baby.

- Oh, look, .

- I always have a blast with you.

And I thank you so much.

- Here's a ten for your ride home.

- DRIVER: Buddy? Buddy?

- Whatever.

- There you go [unintelligible].

- He's telling me that it's Diana's friend who needs to get

paid, and I don't understand that.

- [knocking at door]

- What the [bleep] is going on, Willie?

I mean, did you drink that much within a -minute span

after I left your a*s?

Yes?

- Good evening. - Good evening.

- So we'd appreciate it if we can get paid.

It's a $ fair. - Well, I'm--

- See if we can get that resolved.

- Yeah, I'm gonna go inside, if you can hold on for one second.

Willie, you took a cab?

- ♪

- I'm k*lling all this time out here.

I just wanna get paid.

- I understand that, I understand that,

but my roommate is drunk right now.

You know, he's--and that's no fault to you, I understand.

But now where's your cab parked at,

because I have to go to an ATM.

- It's around the corner right there.

- ♪

- [electronic beeping]

- Willie will remember this in the morning.

And if he doesn't on his own, I'll make sure I remind him

of this in the morning.

- ♪

- Girls.

This morning, we're gonna get up.

We're going to Northern Home to clear some brush

for the playground project.

- Who was knocking on the door last night?

- [indistinct chatter]

- The police?

- Willie took a cab.

I guess he didn't have the cash on him.

- Mm-hmm. - And then--

- Willie has been going out every single night,

drinking every single night.

Willie knows that we have to get up and cut down trees and pull

weeds the next morning at Northern Home.

And he still decides to go.

- It's :!

- [indistinct chatter]

- Hey, Willie! - WILLIE: Yes.

- Are you gonna be ready in five minutes?

- Willie's not coming.

He's irresponsible!

- William!

- Yeah, that's not cool.

- WILLIE: Sarah!

- What?

- Don't be disappointed, I'm usually more responsible.

- SARAH: You need to be more responsible, Willie.

You shouldn't-- - I know, but I'm tired.

- SARAH: -- in the morning.

- [weed whacker buzzes]

- ♪

- I hate Willie.

Why isn't he here?

- ♪

- Willie is so happy he's in bed right now.

- Yeah, [bleep] Willie, I'm sorry.

- But what would Willie do out here though?

- Willie'd be like, "Um, I'm sorry, I'm over the weeds."

I think I'm okay with Willie kind of ditching out,

because Willie's monologue would have been--would have been a lot

of bitching.

- I love the kid to death, but I'm just saying like--

- Tell Willie either we tell on him that he wasn't here,

or he gives us the money for him working here today.

- Or--or how 'bout we just say, "Let's get you a four-hour

"activity where you're doing just about the same amount

of work that we're doing"?

Like if you all really were like, "Give me your money,"

I'd tell you all to kiss my a*s.

- Then I'd tell you to kiss my a*s too.

- --that Willie will say the same thing.

- I wasn't feeling bad, I was just tired.

- Ah, very tired.

- Yeah, I'm tired too.

I'm sorry, I just couldn't get up.

What's up, Laura? - Hi.

How'd it go this morning?

- Great. - Just grand.

The whole thing is just bl-b-b-b-b,

down--we went along the fence--

- [indistinct chatter]

- Do you wanna talk to me? - Sure.

- I do expect consequences.

I'm really not trying to justify my drunken actions,

and I will totally take responsibility for them.

The truth is, I got carried away, and I came home too late,

and I couldn't wake up on time.

That's really--

- And I have to dock your pay for this morning,

but just you know-- - I understand.

- --just be, you know--just do your best to be on time--

- Of course. Are you mad at me?

- No. - Even a little?

- I'm disappointed.

- If I was a boss, I would have done the same exact thing,

so I do not take it personally.

It really is just business.

I'm usually a very good boy.

Last night, it was just a little--little crazy.

- ♪

- Were they pissed?

- Yeah, they were pissed.

They were actually all talking about coming to you and telling

you that you should--you should give them your paycheck

for that day. - [laughs] Pay them?

How did they lose money?

My punishment is my pay being docked, that's it. Done.

I think I would have laughed in their faces if they told me that

they wanted me to pay them.

But I was tired!

- ♪

- We are going to Play World Systems today.

We've already sent in information to Play World about

the certain, uh, activities that we want and the certain like

slides and monkey bars that we're wanting to use.

They're gonna give us like a -D image of what we're envisioning.

- It's pretty cool.

Landon, go down the slide.

- It's what we wanted. - [applause]

- They're gonna go nuts when they see it.

- ♪

- I have M.J.

sitting there saying to me, "Hey, sweetheart,"

telling me what to do.

I can't even believe that he's referring to me in that way.

Don't talk to me like that, 'cause I'm smarter than you,

okay?

- Sarah was kind of talking about me behind my back and

saying that I was a sexist and degrading to women.

And I really don't think that's very fair to me.

Have I been demeaning to you?

I called you sweetheart.

I was talking down to you?

- I just never had anyone talk to me like that, you know?

- Welcome to, I guess, Tennessee, man.

This is just funny to me, because it's like this--

I had never known.

I wish somebody would have said something to me earlier.

- I don't feel like M.J.'s capable of having a conversation

about being sexist, because I don't think that M.J.

has the ability to admit weakness.

- Obviously, I've never lived with girls before.

And girls--there is a difference between girls and guys--

- Of course. - --in conversation.

Maybe it's something that I'm oblivious to,

but I don't ever remember making a point to her that I'm better

than a woman is.

I just don't know where all of this has come from,

and it's--baffles me.

- ♪

- I was trying to take a nap, and M.J.'s voice

was getting on my nerves

more than anything. - Was it?

- I've been annoyed with him lately.

Just ever since our-- - You seem like it.

- --conversation.

This with him, like it's just him, and it's who he is.

And like I like him as a person.

There's a lot of things I like about him.

But...there's a lot of things I don't, and I--

- But what would you talking to him about it do?

- Nothing. - Exactly.

- I don't think he realizes, you know,

that he is sexist, you know? - Yeah.

- And that's--I mean, that's better than someone who realizes

that they are and embraces it.

- Yeah.

- ♪

- [indistinct chatter]

- Fireworks! Look, look!

- ♪

- I found out about forever later.

I don't think that I've hurt

that many people's feelings here.

- Then we got in that fight at the restaurant,

like after that and--it was like a punch in the face, you know?

I was really, really--

- I apologize, I did not know that.

- I was really destroyed by that.

- You should tell me that kind of stuff.

- I know.

- You know, I have this label on me as being just a--you know,

an idiot football player who doesn't care about anything,

who treats girls wrong.

But, really, it's nothing like that.

So, it was a big deal then that day on the bus

and you said it wasn't? - Yeah.

- Just tell me, because I'm--a lot of things that I say kinda

could be controversial or something that can piss you off,

but I need to know about it when it happens,

because I'm willing to work with anything.

- One of the qualities I've seen in M.J.

just wanting everyone to be happy,

wanting everyone to like him, wanting to go to bed at night

knowing that no one is mad at M.J.

- Only thing that I've done that could be, I think,

referred to as sexist is make out with random ugly girls

in a bar.

- I do the same thing.

- I think it's funny.

- With girls and guys.

- [fireworks exploding]

- ♪

- WOMAN: On the next "Real World"--

- Hey, step the [bleep] down.

- Landon, when he's drunk, you never know what's gonna happen

next with him.

- He's like a volcano just waiting to erupt.

- ♪

- Landon has stepped over from just being an a*s

to threatening someone's life.

- Apparently I was kinda snappy with Sarah earlier this morning.

- GIRL ON PHONE: What?

- She was like, "Yeah, you're demeaning.

"Sometimes we feel like you think that girls aren't as like

capable as guys," or something.

- GIRL: You're totally not that way.

- Feel funny, so then they blow it and make it sound like...

you know...I'm like this horrible, sexist person--

- GIRL: Whatever.

- And I was like, "Man, I made an A-plus in damn

women's studies, don't give me that [bleep]."

- GIRL: "Yeah, I know women."
