- The only consensus that I think everyone has a problem

with is Melanie.

- What's the name of the place that you went to?

- I don't wanna say. It's my secret spot.

- Don't make us feel like we're not good enough

to go into this place.

- No one can go there ever.

What's wrong?

- It just was very hurtful for me to see you be all chummy

with people that blatantly insulted me.

- You did hook up with three of them.

- Are you trying to make me feel better?

- I don't know what else to say.

- --work together, and have their lives taped--

The guys from the bar remind me a lot of people from home.

They're just really nice guys.

I like people with kind of tough exteriorx, but soft hearts.

- I just wanna make one point about Mel.

She's so open to judge me and like the things that I do

with other guys.

Yet her family at Drinker's or whatever, she's like,

"They're punks, man.

They've pulled knives on people," blah, blah, blah.

Okay, she's not even judging them on that.

She thinks that's cool.

Okay, so it's cool to like pull knives on people,

but it's not cool for a girl to kiss three guys in one night.

She's one of the most self-righteous people

I've ever met.

- Mel just likes to do what everybody else is not doing.

She doesn't make out with three guys,

so she's gonna go to the opposite end of that where she's

gonna hang out with dudes who probably could never -- a girl

even if they wanted to try.

I don't feel comfortable around those people.

It has nothing to do with their hygiene or if they have

tattoos on their forearms.

I don't trust 'em.

- Today, Mel walked in--you know,

you hear the front door open, you look to see who's walking

in, and it was her, and I was like uh,

kept reading my magazine.

Melanie's personality is what is abrasive and bugging people.

How do you sit somebody down and tell them,

"Your personality bugs the -- out of me?" You can't.

It's to the point where I don't even feel like going,

"Hey, what's up?" I'm just over it.

- [indistinct chatter]

- ♪

- So, are you guys excited to be back?

- ♪

- We just got back from Fiji, and we're slapped in the face

with reality, playtime is over.

- You guys are gonna have very busy five and half weeks in

order to get this playground done.

You have a lot of things to do.

Just gonna need to support each other, work as a team.

If you need the help, the Soul staff is willing,

all you need to do is ask.

But I'd like to challenge you guys to see if you can

get this playground done.

- This is the first major project that I've ever been able

to have control over from start to finish.

We started it with research, and we're gonna end it

with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

And I just can't wait to see it done.

It's gonna be amazing.

- LAURA: In addition to the schedule,

we also need to come up with a rain contingency plan.

- There's so many other things that I could think to do other

than build a playground.

I see the need now for me to be more of an influence and mentor

on the kids, and that's why my focus is not as much on the

playground as my roommates.

- LAURA: Are there any questions?

- ♪

- [horn blares]

- ♪

- We're gonna be working all these crazy hours

and like a -hour week.

- Fifty-eight hour week?

- Yeah, but not like just chilling in an office

doing bull [bleep].

That playground I was telling you about.

We're gonna be putting together by hand,

the seven of us. - ED: Wait, with other people?

- No, the seven of us.

The playgrounds gonna come in ,, ,,

,, , parts.

It's gonna be a lot of damn parts.

- ED: How big is this playground?

- It's big.

- [laughs]

- [indistinct chatter]

- I like Drinker's 'cause I like a bar setting

more than a club setting.

And I like the people that go to the bar a lot.

- I love my boys.

That's why I go to Drinker's, 'cause they're so good to me,

you know? They're so nice to me.

They're just like, "We're just gonna chill and be mellow and be

stupid and be Drinker's people."

And that's just what happens.

- I've definitely noticed all of Mel's annoying quirks.

But I kind of ignore them, even though I am annoyed at times.

- MEL: They're good people, you can tell, they're good people.

And I like them.

- Mel likes to talk about how she hangs out with people with

piercings and tattoos and this and that as if that makes her

like a really cool person.

But she's not cool.

She's not a chill person.

And she definitely has a stick up her a*s.

- "I love Sarah."

- I don't Willie.

Shut your face.

- ♪

- MEL: I love those guys.

They make me so happy.

I'm up to date on everything that goes on in that bar.

- My question for you is, I was just wondering why--as you

say--that we're not allowed in there.

- I didn't say that ever.

- What was the name of the place that you went to?

- I don't wanna say.

It's my secret spot, and no one can go there ever.

I never said you weren't allowed in there.

- I feel as though everything has kind of come

to a head with Mel.

How she kinda disrespects other people in the house.

Somebody needs to say something, so...I'll take the b*llet.

We're really not wanted there.

And if we're not ever gonna meet 'em,

then why bring 'em back to our place?

- You don't know us well enough,

why would you go out and find another set of nine guys at

Drinker's to go get to know them better and call them your boys?

We're supposed to be your family.

- Have you truly tried to bond with all of us?

- Yes!

- Shavonda, I have given you nothing but myself.

And I've given you nothing but care about you and Shaun,

and asking about you and Shaun.

- That's one aspect of my life.

I wasn't trying to get into this argument,

but if you wanna go there, we can [bleep] go there.

- That's fine. - You're a [bleep] know-it-all.

Everybody in the house thinks you're a know-it-all.

You talk too damn munch, and you like the sound of your own

[bleep] damn voice.

You wonder why I don't ask you to go places,

it's because I know I wouldn't get [bleep] word in edgewise.

I listen to people.

It is a mature characteristic to be able to listen to somebody.

You don't listen to save your [bleep] damn life.

You're the other girl in the house, first of all.

Me and you have way too much in common to not be friends.

It's just stupid.

I physically can't be in a room with you for more

than five minutes, but you only be [bleep] talk.

That's what I'm saying.

So please do not come at me and start accusing me of [bleep]--

- I didn't accuse you of anything.

- You got in my face and you started questioning my--my

honesty and my--my motives for being here.

- What did I accuse you of?

- You--question my motives for being here?

"Are you trying to bond with everybody?"

You're damn right I'm trying to bond with--

- DAD: Hello? - Hi, Dad.

- DAD: What's the matter?

- My roommates hate me, and I wanna come home.

- DAD: What?

- And they just don't understand me.

- DAD: What do you mean they don't understand you?

- They just think I'm a horrible person,

and I feel like I'm horrible inside.

I feel like I'm evil, because they think I'm so mean.

- DAD: Stop.

Why do you think you're a horrible person?

- I don't know.

- DAD: That doesn't make sense.

Did they just walk up to you and say, "You're a horrible person"?

- I came home, and they said that, "Melanie,

"you're a horrible person.

You don't listen to us, and you don't care about us."

And I said, "I try to care about you as much as I can."

- DAD: And where had you been?

- I was just at my bar.

I just don't wanna live with people who hate me.

- DAD: You have to decide whether or not

you wanna stay there.

- I just don't know if I can handle this anymore.

[sighs]

- ♪

- DAD: If you hate it there that much, then come home.

- Okay.

- ♪

- ♪

- The thing that bothered me was when she got in my face.

You don't [bleep] approach me like you gonna do something,

okay? You know like don't do that.

Don't make me go there.

I have tried numerous ways of getting around this.

Deep breathing and walking away.

And I--this was the last resort.

And I went off.

- And promise me that you'll do this.

Don't back down from what you said,

because if you do--but look at me in my eyes and tell me.

- I won't.

- ♪

- [phone ringing]

- Hey. - ANDY: How you doing?

- I'm okay.

I tried to call you a lot last night.

I was really upset.

Shavonda and M.J. basically kinda told me

like everybody hates me.

- ANDY: What?

- It came at me so hard with M.J.

and Shavonda saying everyone feels like this,

and everyone feels like that.

And even though it was just two of them,

it may as well been the whole house talking to me,

because that's what I felt like.

Alright, and I'm thinking about coming home.

- ANDY: Are you serious? - MEL: Yeah.

You know, I've always been told I was a good person.

You know, and that I listen to people's problems and like--

- ANDY: --and you're telling--

- You can know all you want, but if a whole [bleep] house

that you live with hates you and doesn't feel the same way.

- ANDY: I know. Do you have respect for these people?

I mean, that-- - I did, until last night.

- ANDY: Okay.

- Why hang on when I don't have anything to hang on for?

- ANDY: To show your strength.

But also, don't let two people make you feel

completely alienated.

- I don't think the roommates necessarily understand who I am.

It's just kinda reinforced with my friends and family back home,

and how much love and respect they give me for who I am.

- ANDY: I love you so much.

And I have complete % faith in you and your decisions.

- I love you, too. Bye. - ANDY: Bye.

- ♪

- WILLIE: I love everybody, but I mean,

there's no reason why they can't show up

for a three-hour work day.

- M.J.: Karamo, Landon, and Melanie are not gonna come in

to work today.

I don't think our boss is gonna be too excited about that.

- They're gonna sleep.

That's what they're gonna do.

- Oooh.

- Mel's gonna sleep until we get home.

- I mean, I know I didn't show up for a day of weed whacking

because I was not feeling so good, but it's a three-hour day.

- ♪

- Over to the right is part of the Liberty Bell and

Independence Hall.

I'm not gonna go to work today because my mom and my sister

are in town.

I've talked to Laura, and I've cleared it with her.

She says it's fine.

And so I'm gonna go around and spend some time

with my mom and my sister.

- ♪

- I told Landon that I need you guys all here.

Where's Melanie?

- M.J.: And Karamo. Did they not--

- Melanie and Karamo didn't even come--

- They told us they did.

- SARAH: They told us that they did.

- Okay, let's sit down and talk.

- M.J.: Laura is very disappointed that some of the

roommates didn't show up today.

I can understand why she is.

It is kind of disrespectful.

And plus, it's our job.

- Because of the scope of this project,

all seven of you need to be here every single day.

Being late and being not here isn't acceptable.

You need to be here.

- ♪

- [train whistle blows]

- ♪

- [phone ringing]

- LAURA: Hi, Shavonda. - SHAVONDA: What's up?

- LAURA: We got a surprise. The truck's here early.

And we need to unload it within the next half hour.

I need you here ASAP.

- Okay. Okay!

I just talked to Laura.

The truck came in early, and we need to be at Northern Home

within the next half hour.

- ♪

- Alright. - Wow.

- ♪

- Just set it over here to the left right now.

- [laughs]

- We are unloading the truck and all ,

pieces of the playground.

And we're just gonna be out there sweating.

- Landon, your Bobcat's here.

- ♪

- I am excited to begin the process of building the

playground and to know that in just a few weeks,

the kids at Northern Home are actually gonna have

a place to play.

- ♪

- SHAVONDA: The truck's done.

- ♪

- Guys, let's pull together for two seconds.

Awesome job this morning.

That's yours. - [gasps]

- LAURA: You gotta keep the keys here at work.

And then we have two cell phones for you guys to use.

And it can only be work-related calls.

For those of you that weren't here,

this is a really important weekend.

I know it's a lot of hard work, but you guys need to be here

every day, and you can't be late, you can't not show up.

- Laura is feeling very disrespected and upset by the

fact that I did not show, that Melanie did not show,

that Landon did not show.

- If you guys are late or if you don't come to work this

week, you will be terminated.

- The policy is, if we fired from the Philadelphia Soul,

we have to go home.

- ♪

- Karamo, can I talk to you for a sec?

- KARAMO: Sure. - You've been late twice.

And you didn't show up, and you didn't tell me.

So, you're getting a written warning.

You're a minute late at all for the rest of your time here,

you--you're gonna lose your job. - [laughs]

- It's not funny. - No, it's not, it's not.

It's a very serious matter.

- Shavonda was like, "Everybody feels this way."

I'm gonna talk to everybody and see how they truly feel

instead of just M.J. and Shavonda.

I don't wanna go home, I wanna finish this out.

I wanna get to know these people,

and hopefully learn something.

- I personally don't have any serious issues with you at all.

But it doesn't mean that I necessarily disagree with the

overall consensus of the group.

You have a certain way of putting in your opinion that

makes the other person feel judged or unimportant.

It's kind of, "I feel this way,

but I don't respect how you feel."

- I'm, I guess, a little more passionate or maybe more harsh

about my opinions. - Right.

I know it's not intentional-- - Yeah, it's not.

- We know that, but just because it's not intentional,

it doesn't mean that it doesn't bug people.

Mel is a wonderful person.

She does have a very good heart.

I just think she has to grow up a little when it comes

to people relations.

I would just make an extra effort to being more aware of

how you make people feel. - Yeah.

- We'd like you to remain a part of the roommates and the

household, because we all have love for you in our hearts.

- ♪

- SARAH: How are you?

- Thought of leaving, calling my family, and really upset.

- [coughs] I know.

- I just talked to Willie.

I know how everybody feels, because he kind of--

- Yeah, but the way I-- - --spoke for everyone--

- --the way I feel about you is me and you,

because it's like I have something more with you.

- Yeah, but you feel like I negate everything you say,

and I have to throw my two cents in constantly.

- Yeah. - It never means that I don't

care about you or that I'm judging you.

- I know that.

I want Mel to change.

That's why I want Mel to stay.

If I didn't think Mel was capable of changing,

I wouldn't say that I wanted Mel to stay.

- I just felt attacked and--

- It was when you got in my face.

- What? When did I do that? - SHAVONDA: You got in my face.

You got this close to me.

- MEL: Not to say that being drunk is any excuse,

but I can't really remember what was said, you know,

I just felt upset.

- I apologize for yelling at you,

but I'm not sorry for what I said,

because I said what is real.

The ball is definitely in Mel's court,

and she knows now how everybody feels.

If she wants things to get better,

she knows what she has to do.

- I know what I do now, and I'm going to work on it.

I will shut my mouth a lot more.

And hopefully you guys can be patient.

It's gonna take time.

It's hard, years of being like this,

and no one having a serious problem with it.

I'm logical enough and smart enough to know

that change is okay.

It's just hard to realize it in the moment.

It's really, really hard.

[whimpering] I don't have any energy.

- We're starting to assemble all the different parts that

have come in.

My fingers are already starting to hurt.

I have not used a socket wrench this much in my entire life.

I think this is the hardest thing in the world to do.

- Can we just superglue these right here?

- It's coming together.

- LAURA: I couldn't have any of you guys missing this week.

Otherwise, this thing will

never be done. - It's fine.

- My anger from Friday was just because I was disappointed,

because I was like I just thought you would come.

- I respect the fact that Laura had to make an example out of

Melanie and Karamo and myself for not showing up to work.

My mom and my sister were in town.

Friday was the only day we had, and if there was consequences,

I was gonna take 'em.

- We're proud to have you on our staff.

So, I just need you to keep working as hard

as you have been.

- Because I'm studying landscape architecture,

I'm working for a recommendation.

I want Laura to be able to feel honest about the fact that if

she gives me a recommendation, that she meant it.

- LAURA: I'm like genuinely proud of you.

- Landon never has proven himself to be the type of

individual that I would look up to.

Seeing him building this playground and seeing his

dedication has given me a whole new respect for him,

and I'm just really impressed by him.

- I understand.
