[phone ringing]

Okay, tell me a little bit about the roommates.

There's this girl named Janelle.

She's biracial.Next.

Svetlana-- she's like seriously straight-up Russian mafia.

My roommate is this guy named Jose.

Oh, there's this meathead, Johnny Bananas.

The Jew from Seattle...Zach, he's super cute.

Um, we have an anorexic girl. When she walked in the house,

I thought she was going to break in half.

What's her name?Paula.

Every time you speak, I can't stand you.

Don't get emotional about it.

Baby, what's wrong?

She starts hyperventilating,

so now I'm, like, really freaking out.

Okay, what the ... is going on?

[gasping] Walk it off.

Captioning sponsored by MTV TELEVISION NETWORKS

TYLER: That's it. Let's get something to eat. I'm not cooking.

Ask Janelle if she wants to come.

We decided to go to breakfast.

We leave Paula to sleep.

We're all kinda freaked-out by someone like this

who drinks and gets all emotional

and hyperventilates.

All right, let's do it.Let's do it, guys.

Ready? Let's go.

Good morning.

Do you have any recommendations for a breakfast joint?

Well, let's see.

Right here.

Yeah. I like that.

We're going in right now.

You got enough for seven?

[laughing]

I appreciate it.

Oh, sure.Okay.Have a good one.

I'm a little concerned about Paula.

You ever, like, meet somebody and just sense that, like,

they're deeply, deeply, deeply saddened by something?

I'm deeply saddened

by your feigned interest in this.

I don't want last night to happen again.

I don't want the...

Are you really hurting about this?

Just... he...All right, okay, wait. People, stop.

Stop being mean. I feel really bad for her.

I feel really bad. I really do.

Okay, it's good. I'm like joking around with you.

I don't like when you do it. Obviously, you can tell.

Every time you say something mean to me, I don't like it.

This isn't mean.I don't understand why

he can't just do something else...

why it's so important for him to talk down to me

and to treat me like crap.

If I said you were ugly, that's mean. I'm...

No, your [bleep] lie is that I-I feel bad for her.

Like, like I'm this...

But you're acting as if you're like so heartbroken that she...

I really am because I really feel like it's really deep.

Like something's really ... with her and I feel really bad.

And I know she's not going to tell me,

and that hurts even more because I can't help her.

The minute she walked in the house,

like, I totally got that vibe from her.

We can't turn a blind eye to Paula's problems.

And we're talking about a legitimate issue.

I don't know if it's drugs,

what her family life was like...

I think it's maybe something with her dad,

that's why she falls in love so quickly.

Oh, my God, you don't know!

I'm just trying to figure it out, because I know she wants...

JOHN:She probably just got drunk and she's exhausted.

No way! She didn't drink!

She didn't drink!Yeah, she did.

She had two freakin' beers. She weighs, like, pounds.

JANELLE: She, like, she honestly scared [bleep] out of me.

SVETLANA: That's what I'm saying!

JANELLE: Oh, my God!

It's not going to solve anything

us sitting here talking about it, you know?

Paula has got problems

that go a lot deeper than any of us

are able to help her with, I think.

PAULA: I turned into a lunatic last night.

When I drink too much, I cry.

I guess my underlying insecurities come out

in bursts, and the worst part is that I felt out of control

and I hate doing that because I am years old.

I am the oldest person in this house.

And I was the only one who couldn't keep it together.

I already feel like I have to apologize to everybody.

ZACH:Hola!

Paula, Paula, Paula?

What up?

How we doing?

Where'd you guys go?

Out to eat. Dude...

What a production, dude. Oh, my God.

It's just a big mess.

I still feel like such an idiot.

Why?

Because it's just a mess of a night. It's all right.

Later on, we'll get to know each other more

and we'll, you know, learn about it.

I already feel doomed in the house,

because I feel like everybody has already judged

and labeled me as "girl with issues."

Like just sometimes I drink and it's just like waterworks.

Yeah?

What you'll probably very soon come to realize

is, like, if I'm sad, I'm real sad all of a sudden.Yeah.

If I'm happy, I'm real happy all of a sudden. There's no...

It's either highs or lows, you know?Up and down.

I just don't want anybody to, like,

write me off already, you know? No.

Everybody's cool about it, you know? But we were worried.

JOHN: You gotta admit everyone here has their own ways

of dealing with stress.

Yeah, but I...

I didn't want to have to, like,

already start apologizing, and I didn't want...

Listen, that's one thing.

There's no need to apologize.

I was trying to, like, figure it all out.

It could just be repressed anger,

it could have been the fact that I don't know these people

and I'm supposed to, like,

hang around with them.

This guy John getting on my nerves.

For some reason

the wrath of my fury fell on John.

I don't know why.

I think I see potential there.

If we go out drinking again,

I didn't want anybody to get, like, worried or nervous

that, "Okay, she's going to probably do this, you know,

and get stupid..."

Yeah, I'm not worried about it.

Yeah, it is ready.

I've lost three pounds in four days.

What do you guys eat?I'm not hungry.

I don't get hungry during the day.

I'm really bothered by the fact the way people eat

around this house.

I'm just really worried, because in the

g*y community, it's so judgmental about your body.

And so I don't like being around it

because I don't want to get sucked into that.

And so it's bothersome to me to be around people

that have that problem.

Right. I agree.

I do look at, like, how I work out

compared to, like, what I eat.

There's a happy medium.

Like, I woke up at : a.m. and worked out

for a couple hours. So I can eat this, you know?I know.

You're so pissed. I'll run around

and like work out, like, really hard.

Well, then do it.

Let's save it for :.Leave at :

Leave at :.

Leave at : tonight.

Leave at :.That's our deal.

JOSE: What's the deal with the music? Is it a variety?

We don't know. It's a big Studio party night.

You're just saying you want us all

to dress up and look stupid...

No. We have a calendar of all the good parties.

This is the best party every night.

And tonight is the night to go to that club.

I don't think I've ever been to a g*y club before.

And we're in Key West.

We're going to a Studio night.

It should be awesome.

This is the club to go to on Friday, Friday night.

You go and have a good time, though.

You could tell me about it, but I'm not going...

You going?Yeah, I'm going.

You are?You're not going?

No. No.Yeah, you are!

If I'm going, you're going.

I can't believe we don't have anybody to stay here with me.

I was going to, but I want to go out now, dude.

I'm not staying in. Get the hell out of here.

Do you want to go somewhere else?

Friday night. No.

I think it's like I picture young kids

like my brother or something.

I don't want to go to the g*y bar

because I'm just picturing like really young boys

hooking up with other older men.

Freaks me the [bleep] out.

You're all going?

Jose's going, too?Everyone is.

Oh, damn it!

SVETLANA: ...weird, promiscuous g*y people.

You're actually very disappointing to me right now.

SVETLANA: I will vomit.

PAULA:So what if they're older.

Is that fine?That's cool.

JOHN: Yo, would you put her fears to rest about this?

'Cause now she's starting to worry me.

What are you worried about?

Okay, can I ask you a question without you

like, being like Mean Tyler and, like, you being mean to me?Yeah.

Okay, so what's, what's, what's your fear?

Okay, I'm picturing like really, really, really

young boys there.

Because, 'cause she pictures her brother being there doing...

Not even a brother. Just like I feel like when they're

younger it's like they don't even know

if they're g*y yet, going to these clubs.

They're really being exposed to this stuff,

and I just want to, like, shelter them.

Yo, I think that's very caring of you,

and I definitely understand what you're saying,

um, but I think that's more a problem

in every major metropolitan area.

Like I'm honestly expecting to see, like,

men in their s and s,

and I don't think...

Now I'll picture my dad... Oh...

I'm being honest, though.

I'm being honest.

I can't wear the same shirt as you.

Why are you wearing that?

You said you're not going out.

But I am now.

Come on, now.

You look really great. You look awesome.

I got my big chance.

To an awesome time tonight, guys.

Cheers. Studio

Bottoms up.

Hey, man, it's a g*y bar, but

you know what comes around g*y guys is hot women.

Here's to ... flopping all over the ... place.

[whooping]

[techno music playing]

TYLER: We get to Aqua, and there's a drag show going on.

No one knew what to expect.

JOHN: Uh... Club Aqua.

Battle of the female impersonators.

I got up on stage and made an a*s of myself.

You know, I'll try anything once.

I'm out.

I can't handle this anymore.

JOHN: We'd had a couple drinks.

We experienced this extremely odd

experience, and now we just want to go and do our own thing.

Did that guy hit on you a little?

TYLER: Johnny Banana says,

"I don't want to be here anymore, let's go,"

and peer-pressures every single roommate to leave the club.

Johnny McStraight was up there to ...

His straight ... was up there onstage ASAP.

For someone that's so concerned about going to a g*y club...

Where we going?

Where are we going?

We're going to an Irish Heaven.

[Tyler speaking indistinctly]

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!

I went to the g*y bar and spanked my... with a...

You can...

I mean, hell, we tried it, buddy,

and now we just want to go and meet some girls and be around

some fellow heterosexuals.

They're sitting there. They stayed there.

You know what? I'm sorry.

I'm pissed that I got ... for leaving their club.

You know what I've learned tonight?

Follow my own instincts.

Follow your own instincts, but you know what?

Don't follow the dumbass straight dude.

Because you know what? He's going to take you

to the worst club he can find.

And that's what bothers me is that, like,

he thinks that it's like, it's so brave of him

to go toonegay club.

JOHN: What? You want to go back to the g*y bar?

Yeah.

John is really upset that he went to Aqua.

He went out of his element, and then Tyler and Janelle

show up and immediately are turned off and don't even try

a place that John has suggested.

We all went on account of

doing where he wanted to go.

He didn't want

to return the favor, so...

we split up and went our own ways.

[shouting]

Boys!

TYLER: Oh...!

Where's the b*tches?

JOHN: The last time I heard, we went to a [bleep] h*m* club, dude?

Oh, no, no, no, no, no!

Last time I heard, we left the h*m* club at :

and we went to the straight bar.

No, honestly, it wasn't even that.

We planned on going to this club tonight,

you know what I mean?

And it was just, I didn't need anybody

convincing me to go anywhere else.

No, I agree, honestly.

That's where I wanted to be.

JOHN:I'm so glad everyone convinced me

going out with h*m* tonight and, you know, not my own peeps, dude.

It's fine.

JANELLE:I'm not gonna entertain those comments.

I was at the g*y club

and I was having a fun ... time.

I'm talking about Irish Heaven.

How long were you there for, five minutes? Think back.

You didn't even stay for five minutes.

No, no, no. What bar did I go to the other night?

You didn't even go in.

That is bull [bleep]. I went

to your damn straight bar all...

Ahh!

No! No!

[laughing]

Dude! Dude! Dude!

[Tyler and John arguing]

Why would you prefer...?

How many straight bars and how many g*y bars?

Serious argument. It's insane.

[arguing continues]

Did I complain once about going to a straight bar?

No. Why would I? Why would you, though?

Could you spend one night in a g*y club without complaining?

Yes. You did it. You did it. We're going to be roommates.

We're going to have a relationship.

Why can't we compromise, dude?

Listen, my entire life is abiding

by the straight agenda.

[indistinct voices]

I'm not trying to make myself, dude.

JOHN: He's trying to tell me that we're both in the same shoes,

and that's not true.

Me going to a g*y club, I think, is a lot more

out there than him going to any straight place.

JANELLE: Can you guys just leave it alone?

Because tonight

wasn't about g*y or straight.

It was about we were at one place

we decided to go to from the beginning.

I'm just saying that's how it is, dude!

People like different things.

They have different tastes.Exactly.

He likes one place, I like a different place, dude.

So that's how it is, man.

I have a lot of friends

who don't want to do the black club thing.

And it doesn't bother me.

Wait. Like, this doesn't bo...?Like whatever.

Like, my straight friends at home don't go to g*y clubs.

And my best straight guy friends

will not go to g*y clubs with me.

Honestly, I was so surprised that they came tonight,

because the straight guys that I know

would never set foot in a... in a g*y club.

You have friends that don't go to g*y clubs.

You know what I mean?

But they... Yeah. You're right. You're right.

But just because I'm comfortable doesn't mean he's as comfortable

as I am.Exactly.

You bring up a really good point.

And I need to be more

gracious for, like, what he extended to me.

You make me be a bigger person

that I don't want to be right now.

TYLER: I'm thankful for Janelle because

she has the ability to take me outside

of the situation and say, hey,

let's look at it from his standpoint.

I'm saying I really appreciate you making an effort

to go to the g*y club.

I guess my issue was

you wanted to leave,

but I didn't appreciate you just making the effort.

I had a good time there, dude.

I really did. It was...

It was, you know, an eye-opening experience.

I feel so...

I don't want a handshake.

I want a hug. Aw...

Hugs. Hugs. Hugs all around.

JANELLE: She's, like, "I'm on so many pills." She's like, "Yeah,

I get 'em online." Blah-blah-blah...

I'm, like, "Are you serious?"

It all comes together now.

Like, okay, you're taking

something, and then... I'm sure it reacts with alcohol.

And then you don't eat on top of it.

Why is this -pound girl taking

diet pills? They're not good for you,

so why are you doing this to your body?

Have you ever seen her take them?

No.I haven't either.

It's so bad.

Yeah. That's stupid.

No. That only harms your body more.

[yelling]

Feel like this, baby.

That's what I feel like right now.

We're going to wrap her up

and take her outside. Here we go.

[screaming]

Okay, we're going to put her on the bed.

Help! I've been...

[laughing ]

I am [bleep], dude.

Please, just don't smoke.

I will put this cigarette away if,

tomorrow, every time I meet you...

I won't eat it. I can't.Exactly.

JOHN: I'm just trying to get an idea

of why Paula is doing what she's doing.

Paula does not have normal eating habits.

I know I've got, like, a... like, a disease.

Like, I will never be okay about, like, food.

Like, I know. I'm, like,

I don't want to be that girl and, like, be pudgy,

fat, single, alone forever.

Pudgy, fat and alone forever, dude.

That is depressing to think about that.

And that is the way you see yourself

in the future, and that is horrible,

because that is not how you're going to be.

You look at me as a guy,

and you're, like, aw, you're too thin.Yeah.

Girls look at me and be, like, "That's what I want.

No. Uh-uh. No way.Right there. That girl..."

We have to agree to disagree.

I'm done. I'm done.

I need a hot dog right now, or something.

I'll eat the hot dog. I won't eat the bun.

As long as you go to bed

with something in your tummy,

I'll feel okayfor you.

She'll eat the hot dog,

but she doesn't want a bun,

so I guess we're going to have to take baby steps

and crawl before we walk.

JOHN: Can I ask you a question?

Can you tell me one thing that you love about yourself?

SVETLANA: Tell me you love your tummy.Oh, no.

JOHN:No, any... just just anything.

Your teeth.That's it.

' Cause every time you've said something,

it's always... it's always bad, dude.

You're like so negative toward yourself, and I don't know why.

Do you feel like that you're like overweight?

Like, you're looking at me, and you see something.

I look down, I'm like... it makes me really uncomfortable.

TYLER: No, say it.

It's like it is upsetting for me, and I don't

want to like break down in front of everybody again.

[sobbing]

It seems like everybody's trying

to like figure people out all of a sudden,

and it's just like, they want to do it now, now, now.

[sobbing]

It's hard to talk about, I know.

I've always had... I've always hated...

Can you come sit down?I've always hated weight

and issues with it, and I always felt crazy about it.

And it's so hard, 'cause people who aren't crazy about it

just don't get it, and it makes me feel even more out of control.

Mm-hmm.When I first came into the house,

I didn't want... everybody to, like,

know, like, everything like about me.

'Cause people just judge, and then it's like

if you have six people on you all the time,

you cannot hide from anything.

It's like I feel like a snake, and like,

just layers just being ripped off.

So, you-you really just get caught up into what other people think about you?

Well, just like physical-wise, like...Mm-hmm.

Like, I feel like... ugly all the time in this house.

I don't want you to feel like that, you know?

'Cause you're-you're a really beautiful person.

I really, genuinely want to help Paula.

I'm concerned

for her and her health and her well-being as a person.

I just want to be, like, okay with...

With who you are?

For a long time I thought, like, I could fix myself.

I was thrown into this, and I was like...

I feel like I'm gonna get back at like, level zero.

Like, this is serious, okay? So, like, do you want help?

[sobbing]

[sighs]

This is just so hard.

I'm tired of-of-of...

like, living. It's weird.

It's like I'm just... I just... want to wake up and just...

breathe like everybody else and just be normal.

And I don't even know what normal is,

but I would just really, really like to be that.

I really think that the best thing at this point

that you can offer yourself and that we can offer to you

is... for you to see... seek out

professional help for this.

But would you be willing to just do that?

Good.

I mean, some things like this, maybe I do need help.

And I'm gonna do this, because I can't...

I can't live like this forever.
