02x09 - The Little Jewel

Post by bunniefuu »

Another wet day, another wet town.

It's wetter in there than it is out here.

I got to report in.

[groans]

Hey, you want a bandage for that thing?

Oh, it's all right Doc, it's just a scratch.

[clattering]

Let's go, Little John.

I guess we have an extra K-ration.

Hey, petit [speaking French]

No, no, no.

[calling in French]

Mean looking sn*per, huh?

My aching feet.

Hey, Nelson, you got any of that foot powder your old lady sent you?

It's my mother, not my old lady!

Okay, it's my mistake, so?

So what?

So, you got any of that powder?

Thanks a lot.

Terrible thing.

What's that?

A starving kid.

Yeah, it sure is.

I got mine.

[fire sizzling]

Hey, petit

Voulez un café?

Oui monsieur, s'il vous plaît.

Here, Doc, give it to him.

M'appelle et tu?

- Bijou.
- Bijou?

He says his name is Bijou. That's a nickname for 'little jewel' in English.

He says he doesn't know where he comes from.

His mother and father are dead.

Nice w*r.

G.I Joe give chocolat?

Bijou like chocolat!

Hey! The kid speaks English!

I think they all speak that kind of English. That's the moocher's international language.

Hey, uh, Caje, tell him he dropped something out of his pocket.

Hey, Bijou, laissé tomber quelque chose hors de votre poche

That's mine, all right.

- That's your wallet?
- Yeah.

Says he found it over on the wall.

Merci, Bijou.

What's he saying?

Now he wants a reward for finding my wallet.

The kids a regular wheeler dealer, ain't he?

Now he wants my boots.

Okay! Let's go!

Up and at 'em, come on, let's go!

Au revoir!

Monsieur?

Merci, Monsieur.

Au revoir.

Well, what is it , Lieutenant? Two weeks in a rest camp?

Wrong direction, Nelson.

The Krauts have got an oil depot about three miles down the road. Our job is to knock it out.

Are you kidding, Lieutenant?

I wish I were. Got a couple of C-2 packs in the back.

Well, when do we leave?

Now.

Throw your packs in the backseat.

This is absolutely my last w*r.

Lieutenant, just a minute.

S2 says there shouldn't be any Krauts around.

Maybe it'll be a breeze.

Hey, that's good!

So much for S2.

Pull back, pull back.

Sarge, where are they?

They ought to be back by now.

Yeah, if they ain't lost.

Little John and Nelson ain't exactly my idea as scouts.

Nobody asked you for your ideas, Kirby.

Two miles in two hours! Now you tell me again how we're supposed to make it through here in a breeze.

[branch snaps]

There's a whole squad of Germans on the road ahead.

- How far?
- About half a mile.

Down there, by the road, company.

Hi, G.I. Joes!

It's the kid!

Hi, G.I. Joes!

Bijou! Come here!

Come here!

Now get down. Down!

What is he doing here?

He says he came back to see his buddies.

Look, Caje, this kid shouldn't be out here. Tell him

Tell him we haven't got any candy, we haven't got any gum, or something. Just get him out of here.

Sarge, Krauts over that hill, not even a quarter of a mile.

I just made it back without getting spotted.

What about to the south? Did you get over that way?

Well, I circled about half a mile, it wasn't any better.

They got a bunch of dug in positions there.

What do you think, Sarge?

I don't know.

Krauts, Krauts, they're all over the place. Everywhere we turn, there are Krauts.

Bosch?

What did he say?

Well, he says that this morning, he came by here. There's an old house and pond.

He says there's no Germans there.

- No Germans? He's sure of that?
- He's sure.

Oh, oui!

He says he's very sure.

Tell him thanks, Caje.

And tell him if he keeps following us, I'm going to blister his pants.

Sarge, I don't like this.

Like what?

Using an eight year old for our intelligence, that's what.

You got a better idea?

No.

Then try liking this one.

Hey, Nelson. How about toting Big Bertha for a little while? Just for a little while?

Well, only to Berlin, boy.

Where's the house that kid told us about?

Pretty soon.

Soon? My feet are k*lling me!

Pull out.

Little John!

You see anything?

No! We must have got them all!

I'm sorry I lost the BAR, Sarge.

- How is he, Doc?
- Oh, it's just a scratch.

[groans]

Sarge?

That Kraut, the one on the machine g*n,

He had a...

He had a scar and a pair of glasses on.

So what, Kirby?

Well, that guy we saw before back in the woods, he had a pair of glasses and a scar too, right?

What is that supposed to mean, Kirby?

It's the same guy we saw before!

Well, they probably worked their way around. Maybe they were on a patrol or something.

No, no. They were waiting for us!

Hey!

What are you doing up here? You know you could have been shot?

Hi, G.I. Joes!

Oh, not again.

Anybody see you come up here? Caje, ask him.

No.

Caje, you tell him how he almost got us all k*lled with that help he gave us.

Well, that's not his fault, Kirby. He can't stop a German patrol.

What are we going to do with him now?

Oh, why don't we try to enlist him?

Chocolat? Bijou aimer chocolat!

Hey.

Look at them boots!

Them boots is Kraut issue, ain't they?

Hey, Caje, you ask him where he got them boots.

What did he say?

He said he just found those boots out in the woods there.

He's a liar! Look here.

Don't it strike you geniuses a little coincidental that Charlie

mooch here shows up in a pair of Kraut boots?

Right after we nearly got k*lled by the same Krauts that we saw up there before?

You mean that kid tipped off the Krauts that we were coming this way?

He's got a new pair of boots, ain't he? And that's what he wanted from you before so bad. Boots, right?

- Yeah, so what?
- All right, where'd you get them boots?

Who gave you them boots there?

Leave that kid alone, Kirby!

Look, Caje, this ain't some behind the lines playground here!

Nelson could have got k*lled back there, we all could!

Look, Kirby, the kid is here with us, right?

If he knew the Krauts were going to jump us, he wouldn't show up. Right?

Maybe he was going to meet the Krauts here. Maybe it wasn't us he was going to meet.

He looked kind of surprised anyway.

Okay, Sarge, we can go now.

Okay, let's move out. Single file, don't bunch up but keep in sight of each other.

Hey, Sarge! What about the kid?

He stays here.

Caje, tell him and make it clear.

G.I. give chocolate?

Get lost.

Oh, don't worry, Kirby. The kid won't follow us anymore.

Well, he better not!

[gasps]

I knew he was following us!

Says the kid followed us because he's afraid.

Afraid of what? That we'd get away from here and he wouldn't be able to sell us out again?

Cut it out, Kirby!

Hey, Sarge, is there any reason why he can't tag along?

Well, sure there is! Look, do you want to walk into another ambush?

Look, Sarge, you don't trust that kid, do you?

Yeah, I do.

Come on, let's go.

Merci!

Here, now you got a whole outfit.

For Bijou?

Yeah. Now you're Private First Class.

Merci!

Hey, Bijou.

Chocolat?

You better go con them because they buy your line.

Look, con!

C-O-N, con, you know what that means.

Go on over there and talk to them now. They like that little innocent, baby-face routine. I don't.

How many G.I's you put the finger on to get that chocolate bar?

You do as well as you did on the boots?

Leave the kid alone, Kirby.

Bijou, nice friend. Bijou like G.I. Joes, wants to help.

[scoffs]

What else you got in there? Wallets? Jewels? Dough?

No!

Hey, look at this! Jackpot!

- Put him down!
- Kirby!

Put him down!

Put him down? Look at this gear that fell out of his pockets.

You think he's some shiny little boy scout. Just take a look at this stuff here. Look at it!

Nobody thinks he's a boy scout, Kirby.

You don't find boy scouts having to scratch their homes out of b*mb craters. Now leave him alone.

That's right, Kirby. He's just a kid.

A homeless, lonely kid, Kirby.

All he's got left is barbed wires and broken bricks for a playground.

So he's bad. All right!

He has to steal to survive, like all of us.

We have to survive, don't you understand?

Well, it looks quiet.

It always does.

They probably weren't expecting visitors.

I know but we'll make a recon just the same.

Make no contact, get as close to that depot as we can.

But not too close.

Then we get right back here after we take a look.

Billy, can you handle this?

Oh, yeah.

You're on me. Kirby? Little John?

Try to get at it from that side.

Caje, right down the center.

Doc, you're right here with the expl*sives.

Okay, let's go.

What's he talking about?

He says he can take me very close to the oil depot without being seen.

He says he can use some ditches. There's a few ditches that I can take there and nobody can see me.

Yeah, but Sarge said not to get too close.

Oh, come on, Doc. This kid knows this country better than we do. You know that.

Here, hold this.

All right. We know they've got a guard house. Three or four men, maybe more.

- We going to jump them?
- No, let's sucker them out.

Kirby, you and Nelson take the TNT. Circle around by the south.

Little John, Caje and I will work our way up the side.

We'll open fire and then we'll fall back and they'll follow us.

- While we jump in, plant the stuff and get out, right?.
- That's right.

What are you talking about? Where's Caje? Where is he?

Now wait a minute, wait a minute.

What? Did they sh**t Caje? Did they get Caje?

Just take it easy, did they sh**t Caje?

I told him not to get too close but the kid said...

Yeah, the kid said and Caje believed him.

Look, I told you guys about this kid. Now I told you what kind of weasel he is.

What did the Krauts offer you to turn Caje in? A whole box of candy?

No!

Now, Kirby, take it easy!

Take it easy nothing! Now this little rat turned Caje in to the Krauts!

Then why'd the Krauts let him come back here and warn us?

I don't know. Maybe they want us to follow after Caje and walk into a trap.

What'd they offer you this time? Two new pairs of boots?

No!

Wait a minute.

Hey.

That Kraut on the machine g*n. He had a lighter when we saw him in the woods, right?

Now what outfit were those guys from? What insignia did they wear?

Okay. Read it and weep.

No.

Get away from me! Just get away from me.

If the Krauts know we're here, we're going to have to move fast now.

- Same plan, Sarge?
- It's going to have to be.

Kirby, Nelson, get as close to that oil depot as you can.

Then hole up, give Little John and me time to get into position.

When you hear us open up, move in, set the charge and take off. We'll keep the Krauts busy.

Let's go.

No!

So far, so good.

Yeah, I guess Caje must have convinced them he's a straggler, all alone.

[branch snaps]

Oh, get lost! Get out of my sight!

I said get lost, you understand? "Alice-voo", that way!

Come on.

Yeah, I "comprende-voo", all right. You want to sell us out faster than I can say 'chocolate bar'.

No, no, no!

Look, I said get lost and I mean it! Now go on!

No! Bosch!

[imitates machine g*n]

Hey, wait a minute.

I think he's trying to tell us that there's a Kraut down there with a burp g*n or something.

Ah, that's probably what he told Caje to get him captured.

Look, kid. I'm not interested in letting you trade my life for a stinking pair of boots!

Oh no, kid. You're not going to sucker me.

From now on we crawl. If we make it, pull back fast.

♫ Alouette, gentille Alouette ♫

♫ Alouette je te plumerai ♫

♫ Je te plumerai la tete, Je te plumerai la tete ♫

♫ Je te plumerai la tete Je te plumerai la tete ♫

habenzie chocolat?

We almost walked into them!

I guess that's what the kid was trying to tell us back there.

Don't be so sure.

He might be tipping them off to us right now.

Well, if he is, they aren't buying it.

What are we going to do, Kirby?

Stay close.

If Little John can't throw them off, we've had it.

He's leaving!

Halt!

Cigarette?

Danke schoen.

Chocolat for Bijou?

They bit! Come on.

Now we've had it.

- Yeah and this stupid things jammed!
- Come on!

- Yeah and this stupid things jammed!

Let's go! Let's go!

Run!

Everybody okay?

- Yeah, I'm okay!
- Let's go!

Nice going, shorty.

Well, we sure were wrong about you, Bijou.

Isn't this kid something?

All right, let's go home.

[Bijou whistling]
