[Fireworks exploding]

Narrator: Once again
it's a capacity crowd

cheering in anticipation
as a fourth-round winner

of the pokémon league
competition is about to be decided.

[Chanting]
Ga-ry! Ga-ry!

Narrator: But this time
our heroes are in the stands

as spectators, waiting to see
if Gary will emerge victorious.

Stadium announcer:
Now Gary and Melissa

are down to just
one pokémon each.

Whoever wins this battle
wins the match!

Will Gary win?

To-ge, to-ge.

Hmm... that Melissa's
pretty tough.

[Growling]

Golem.

Nidoking!
Horn attack!

Melissa: Golem!
Seismic toss!

Ah!

Go-oh-oh-oh.

This battle goes to Melissa!

Announcer:
She's done it!

After a grueling battle,

Melissa has won a last-minute
upset over Gary oak

for her fourth
pokémon league victory!

[Wailing]

Gary lost!

I can't believe it.

The competition here
is really tough, ash.

[Girls crying]

Girl: Oh, how
could he lose?

Ash: Gary!

Huh?

Gary...

That trainer was lucky

that I got distracted

by all the girls
cheering for me.

They're disappointed,

but you'll get over it,

won't you, girls?

Later, ash.

Aww...

Pi.

Can you believe Gary
got knocked out?

I thought he'd make it
through at least rounds.

I don't know, Pikachu.

Do you think we should
quit while we're ahead?

Pika-chu!

Brock!

Listen, you're a great trainer,

and as long as I'm around

you're not even gonna
think
about quitting,

OK?
Uhh...

Pikachu and I believe in you,

don't we, Pikachu?

Pika, pika!

OK, I guess you win.

Misty:
Hey, ash!

You better hurry up!

Your fourth matc is starting

on the grass field
any minute now.

What?!
No way!

Jessy and James: Thank
you for shopping with us.

Everything is selling out!

Our souvenir stand
is a big success!

I hope you two
entrepreneurs don't forget

that we originally came here

to swipe a pack of pokémon,

not to sell a bunch
of poké-junk!

It's not junk.

Just don't turn honest on me.

You know, I'm starting to enjoy

doing honest ordinary work
like normal folks do.

It's satisfying
to perform simple ta...

Aaaaaaah!

Very simple.

I guess this goes to show

that when you
ring up lots of sales,

a victreebell
might take its toll.

Aw, don't you have any more

of those official
pokémon badges left?

I'm sorry, but
we're all sold out.

Uh, I think we still got

one more left in the stockroom.

Jessy:
I can't believe it!

James: Meowth is
making fake badges

out of bottle caps!

Well, at least these
fakes are authentic!

Ugh. You can't teach
an old cat new tricks.

Announcer: Our next trainers
are coming onto the grass field

for the fourth round.

The green trainer

is palett town's ash Ketchum!

Ash can't lose.

I was kind of hoping
ash would let us Coach him

from the sidelines
like he did before.

Ash just wants to prove
he can win all by himself.

Well, if I was ash,
I'd choose Bulbasaur

to battle
on a grass field like this.

Me, too.

Who's he battling against?

The program just says
her name's Jeanette Fisher.

She must be pretty tough

to make it this far.

Announcer: And now
the red trainer

is coming out onto the field.

Uh...

[Traditional
Japanese music plays]

Jeanette Fisher
from crimson City!

I am honored.

Huh?

She sure knows how
to make an entrance.

Jeanette! Jeanette!

She's the greatest trainer yet!

Jeanette! Jeanette!

She's as great as you can get!

Jeanette brought
a whole cheering section

but ash only has you and me.

Yeah, Jeanette.

She should win.

We're here to root for ash!

Whose side are you on anyway?

Announcer: It looks like

our opponents are ready
to face off.

Trainers, go!

I choose you, Bulbasaur!

My pokémon should
create quite a buzz.

Beedril, go!

She doesn't look
so tough, does she?

You never know.

Beedril, tackle attack!

Bulbasaur, razor leaf!

Beedril, counterattack Bulbasaur

with your twineedle now!

Good. Now poison sting!

I just hope Jeanette doesn't have
any more pokémon like that beedril.

Mmm. I just hope she
doesn't have a boyfriend.

Grr! Well, there's no way that
boyfriend is gonna be you, mister,

if that girl beats ash!

She's winning.

Bulbasaur, leech seed!

[Gasps] No!

Look, Brock,

leech seed's sucking
up beedril's energy.

Yeah, I see.

You're supposed to be
rooting for ash, not Jeanette!

Bulbasaur, tackle attack!

Beedril is out of the match!

Grr!

Yes!

Way to go, ash!

Show her you're the number one
trainer in the league.

Jeanette! Jeanette!

Our girl isn't finished yet!

They're acting like Jeanette's
the one's who's ahead.

Well, cheering won't help

if she picks the wrong pokémon.

Ash'll be ready no
matter what she picks.

This one won't be so easy.

Go... scyther!

Scyther!

Whoa! A scyther.

Whoa. Do you think ash
is ready for scyther?

Mmm. Maybe.

Let the battle begin!

Scyther, use your
slash attack now!

Scyther, scyther!
Scyther, scyther!

Scyther, scyther, slash!

Scyther! Scyther!
Scyther!

Now, scyther!
Quick attack!

Scyther! Scyther!
Scyther! Scyther!

Bulbasaur!

Bulbasaur, vine whip!

Aah.

Good job, scyther,
now let's show them

how to really cut Bulbasaur's
vine whip down to size.

[Gasps]

You'll lose twice as fast
against scyther's double team.

[Sighs]

Uh-oh.

Bulba Bulbasaur.
Bulba.

Who's that pokémon?

Jeanette! Jeanette!

Double team will beat 'em yet!

Jeanette!

[Giggles]

Saur.

Bulbasaur!
Vine whip now!

Try the... right one!

Bulbasaur!

Scyther!

Bulbasaur just can't
cut it against scyther.

Announcer:
It looks like Bulbasaur

is about to get
mowed down by scyther!

[Sighs]

Ash has gotta do something,

and he's gotta do it quick.

I know, but what?

Bulbasaur!
Razor leaf now!

Oh, no!
Bulbasaur, look out!

Aah!

Bulbasaur!

Hey, wait.

Use your vine whip
against all .

Bulbasaur!

The scyther has been defeated!

All right, Bulbasaur!

Ash figured out that
scyther's double team attack

left it twice as
weak on defense.

And he did it on his own.

I guess ash really can handle
a match without our help.

Now Jeanette only
has one pokémon left,

and if ash wins this next battle

he'll win the match.

Go, ash!

down and one to go.

Look up there.

Can I have one, Mommy?

Oh, wow!

The Pikachu decoy is working.

While they eyeball our balloon,

we'll suck up those
suckers' pokémon.

Our poké-vac should do it.

Now let's clean 'em out.

Look, that's
team rocket's balloon.

They must be up to no good.

Arcanine, flame-thrower!

Yay!

It's Pikachu!

Come on, grab one!

[Gasps]

Quick, start the vacuum.

It's not working.

Whatever it is,
it's getting a ticket.

Huh?

Cheese it, the cops.

Stop in the name of the law!

After 'em, Jenny!

Roger, Jenny!

Aah!

Hot dogs. I got
red-hot hot dogs.

Get 'em while they're red hot.

I got ice cream, get
it while it's cold.

Announcer: Jeanette's
down to her last pokémon

as she's forced to play
catch-up with Ketchum.

Come on, ash,
just beat this pokémon

and you win the match.

Jeanette will save
her strongest for last.

But whatever it is,
you can beat her!

To-ge, to-ge.

Ash sure looks confident

he can beat any pokèmon
that Jeanette picks.

It's victory time.

Go... bellsprout!

Huh?

Pika?

Huh?
Wow.

Bellsprout.

Why would she save a
bellsprout to battle last...

Unless she ran out
of strong pokémon

and doesn't have anything left

but a puny little bellsprout.

Announcer: This looks like a
desperation move by young Fisher.

Bellsprout! Get ready!

Bulbasaur, get set!

Bellsprout.

Go!

This is gonna be
the shortest match

in pokèmon league history.

Bulbasaur, tackle attack!

Bellsprout.
Bellsprout.

All right!

Pika!
Oh!

Bellsprout.

What... what happened?

Go, bellsprout!
Go, bellsprout!

When this plant battles
you better watch out!

Go, bellsprout!
Go, bellsprout!

Bulbasaur!

I can't believe
what's happening.

Announcer: It looked like
this match was over,

but bellsprout
sprung into action,

and now this mighty mite has
Bulbasaur sucking the sod!

That bellsprout absorbs
Bulbasaur's attacks

and sends them back against it.

Make bulba sore.
Ha ha ha ha!

Bulbasaur is out of the match!

Oh, no!

Announcer:
Bellsprout wins,

and Ketchum is down one pokèmon!

Bellsprout! Bellsprout!

You're the best without a doubt!

Bellsprout! Bellsprout!

OK...

Pikachu, let's go!

Pikachu.

Yes! Pikachu should win
no sweat, no doubt...

No problem.

Let the battle begin!

Pikachu!
Thundershock!

Pika-chuuuuu!

Bellsprout.

Bellsprout.

Razor leaf now!

Bellsprout.
Bellsprout.

Announcer:
A double-edged razor leaf!

This is one spectacular sprout!

Pikachu, try your
thunderbolt attack!

Pika...

Chuuuuu!

That's it.
It's all over.

Bellsprout.
Bellsprout.

Pika?

[Giggles]

Bellsprout's legs
are like a pair

of teeny-tiny lightning rods.

Those electric attacks
just won't work, ash.

What? No way!

If Pikachu's thunderbolt
attack is no good,

ash is in big trouble.

Ash better think fast.

Hang in there, Pikachu!

Pi! Pika...

Chu chu!
Chu chu!

Bellsprout.

Pi... kachu!

Announcer: Well, folks,
I guess you'd call that

a garden-variety attack.

Pikachu is out of the match!

Oh.

Announcer:
And it's official.

Bellsprout short-circuits
Pikachu to tie up this match!

But how could Pikachu

ever get knocked out of
the match by a bellsprout?

There's no way.

That Jeanette sure knows
how to pick her pokémon.

She saved her best for last.

I know, but what pokémon
does ash have

that will outbattle
that bellsprout?

Sorry, we're so late.

Mrs. Ketchum.
Professor oak.

We came to cheer ash to victory.

Uh, did you know that
your grandson lost?

Yes, I know.

It'll do Gary good

to see every Road has a
few bumps along the way.

Win this one for
your Mother, honey!

Now that Gary's out
of the competition

all the folks in palett
town are counting on you!

They're supposed to
be cheering ash on,

but all they're doing is
putting more pressure on him.

Bellsprout!
Just one more win!

Bellsprout.

Announcer:
Now we'll see if Ketchum

has the pokémon he needs
to pluck a victory

from Jeanette's
unbelievable bellsprout!

I choose you...

Muk, muk.

[Gasps]

Hey, I didn't know ash

brought his muk
to the competition.

Ash thought he might need
muk during this match

so he called me yesterday

and asked me
to transport it here.

He knew muk had an advantage
over grass-type pokémon.

Huh. I don't know
what surprises me more,

the fact that he's using muk

or the fact
that he thought ahead.

Yes, I underestimated
him myself.

Oh, that's my ash.

OK! Ready, muk?

Muk...

Begin!

All right, bellsprout,
flying muk kick!

Announcer: And the tables
have been turned

on Jeanette's bellsprout!

Now muk is absorbing the energy
from bellsprout's attack.

Muk takes the licking

but bellsprout keeps on kicking.

Keep it up, muk!
You're doing great!

[Gasps]
Bellsprout.

OK, muk, time for
a body slam attack.

Bellsprout!

[Muffled]
Bellsprout.

[Gasps]

Ohh...

Muk.

[Weak]
Bellsprout.

Bellsprout is out of the match,

and the fourth round victory

goes to green trainer
ash Ketchum!

Yeah!

[Cheering]

I'm so proud of him!

I can't believe ash
won on all fields.

That was his best match.

We did it, muk!

Muk, muk, muk.

Aah!

[Laughs] Now I understand
how that bellsprout felt.

[Laughs]

That muk can really
smother you with affection.

I'm very proud of the way
you battled, bellsprout.

Let's go home.

Well, we sold out everything.

Let's fact it, we're
much more successful

at selling stuff than
we are at stealing stuff.

You're right. It's fun
and profitable, too.

Hah! The next thing
you know

you two will want to
open a fast-food joint.

That's not a bad idea.

We can call it jessy's. James'.

Want a burger and
fries without trouble?

If you're really
hungry, make it double.

To protect the world
from hunger and thirst...

Our food isn't bad,
at least not the worst.

The team rocket restaurant,
blast in for a bite...

We stay open all day,
we stay open all night.

You didn't do too bad out there.

Aw, thanks.

But if it wasn't for muk

you'd be out of luck.

Muk...

No, stop, muk, quit it!

[Laughing]

Narrator: And so, with
a little advance strategy,

ash got bellsprout
stuck in the muk

and won his fourth round match.

Now his dreams
are burning as brightly

as the flame atop
indigo stadium.

But does ash have what it takes

to be a pokémon Master?

Find out as
the competition continues.

don't go away.

Pikachu's jukebox is next.
