narrator:
Today our heroes continue
to press onward
to their next destination:
the Olivine Gym
in Olivine City.
Today the road leads them
through a parched landscape,
and the weather
is withering.
- [groans]
Must be !
- I wish this river
wasn't dried up.
We could all go for a swim.
- Wouldn't that be nice?
Cool, clear water.
- Maybe there's some left.
[groans]
[all groan]
- Pika!
- Togepi!
- Look at that!
The twerps are hot and tired.
And they've run out of water.
- Hmm.
They're dry as a Cubone.
- For once,
we're luckier than they are.
At least we
have a canteen full of...
- I got my drink, did you?
- I chug-a-lugged mine too!
[both laugh]
- [grunts]
[both groaning]
- What'd you do that for?
- That hurt.
- That water was supposed to be
for all of us to share.
Now there isn't any more!
- We were wrong.
- That's right.
- [groans]
No more water.
- There's not a cloud
in the sky.
We might not have rain
for a week!
[all groan]
- Hey, maybe we could
dig a well.
- Out here, we'd hit oil.
- Maybe if we're lucky
it'll rain.
If not, I'll cry a river.
Huh?
- What's the matter?
- Did your tears dry up too?
- No. Look over there!
both: Huh?
- What's that?
- Pika?
- [singing]
Pokémon, Pokémon, Pokémon
- Let's do it.
I wanna be the very best
Like no one ever was
Ever was, ever was
To catch them is my real test
To train them is my cause
My whole life has led to this
Time to test my skills
I know I just can't miss
Gonna show the world
Born to be a winner
- Johto
- Born to be a champion
Born to be a winner
Born to be the very best
- Pokémon
- Johto
- Born to be a winner
Pokémon
- What is it?
- Maybe it's a spaceship.
- Hmm.
I doubt that.
But whatever it is,
it's right over
Remoraid Mountain.
Huh?
Hey, we're right near
a Pokémon Center!
- We'll be able to cool off
and get ice cold drinks there!
- Toge!
- And we might get some answers
about those lights!
- Come on.
Let's go.
- Pika!
- Where are they going now?
- Wherever they're going,
we have to follow them!
- Does that "we" include me?
- The twerps must be heading
towards those lights in the sky
because they must lead
to something rare and valuable!
- I'm too thirsty
to get worked up.
- How can you think of thirst
when our fortune lies before us?
Come on, Team,
let's follow that light!
It's gone!
- Disappeared.
- Maybe it was a mirage.
Maybe it wasn't there.
- Of course it was there!
We saw it,
and it'll be back again!
If the twerps
are heading for it there,
then so are we!
This could be our chance
to grab Pikachu!
- Okay, but could we grab
a club soda first?
- To the light, Team!
Hoo!
- Maybe the heat's
gotten to her.
- It's too bad.
both: Come on.
Let's go.
- [singing] First the left foot,
then the right.
we'll keep walking
day and night!
Soon we'll see
that colored light,
shining in the sky so bright!
[giggles]
[all gasp]
- Whoa! Cool!
- It looks like
a prehistoric city!
- [laughs]
There's all kinds of symbols
and stuff on these logs here!
- This is where the Ancient
Colossal Tree Tribe lived.
- Ancient Colossal Tree Tribe?
- It's a lost civilization.
The people here
used to cut huge trees
from nearby forests
and mountains
to build gigantic buildings.
- Well the mountains
are still around,
but we haven't seen any forests
for miles and miles!
- Hey.
- Hmm?
- Guys, look at this carving.
It looks like a Pokémon
I've seen somewhere before.
- Hmm.
- Pika!
- Toge!
- It's not a carving.
all: Huh?
- That's a fossil
of a Remoraid.
- Hey, it's Nurse Joy!
- That's it!
Remoraid!
I knew it looked familiar!
- How do you know about 'em?
- I saw a cool documentary
about Remoraid on Pokémon TV.
- Magikarp!
- Remoraid.
The Jet Pokémon.
Often found in large groups,
Remoraid can can fire water
and hit targets
up to meters away.
- But there haven't been
any Remoraid
in this area
for centuries,
not since all the rivers
and lakes dried up.
- Water Pokémon
couldn't live in a place
that didn't have
any water any more.
- Before the water went away,
the people who used to live here
loved the Remoraid so much
that they were known
as Remoraidians.
- You mean
the Colossal Tree people?
- Say,
you're very knowledgeable!
- Thanks for the compliment,
Nurse Joy.
Coming from you,
it means a lot!
- Yeah, anything coming from
a girl means a lot to Brock.
- A long time ago,
this land was very green
and beautiful.
There were lush forests
everywhere.
But the Remoraidians wanted
to build a great city here.
So they cut down tree after tree
for timber and fuel.
After a while,
there weren't any trees left.
The rivers and lakes
started to dry up,
and without any shade,
the earth turned to dust.
They couldn't grow food.
They had no water.
Finally, the Remoraidians
had to abandon their city
and move away.
They thought
by building a great city
that their civilization
would live on forever,
but now the Remoraidians
are forgotten.
- Oh!
- Most people
don't know about 'em, Nurse Joy.
But I do!
- Huh?
- I know
about lots of things,
things like Pokémon breeding
and beauty!
That flower
is almost as beautiful as you!
- I was so surprised to find
anything growing up here,
especially a flower,
but look.
- [gasps]
Another one!
It's so pretty!
- A Pokémon trainer told me
about seeing flowers up here,
but I had to come and see them
for myself to really believe it!
- They're all over.
- I can't explain it,
but it's nice to know
that something's alive
and thriving here.
- New life springing
from a dead civilization.
My name is Brock,
and I'd be delighted
to accompany you
on an archaeological--
- Hi!
My name's Misty.
I'm a Water Pokémon trainer.
And this is Ash Ketchum.
He's a Pokémon trainer too!
- What a little cutie...
- Huh?
- Aren't you, Pikachu?
[both groan]
- But its fur is so dry.
I can tell
it must be very thirsty.
- Pika.
- Why don't you come with me
to the Pokémon Center?
We have
lots of cold water there.
all: Okay!
- They must be going
to the Pokémon Center.
- I bet they have
water there.
- I'd love some water!
- If we go
to the Pokémon Center,
they'll throw us out!
- They won't throw us out
if they think James and I
are professors of...
archaeology!
- Ha!
- Then what am I gonna be?
- Well, you can't show up
as you.
- Meowth needs a disguise.
- I have an idea.
- Huh?
- Water is very important.
You should always
drink plenty!
[all gulping]
- Ah!
Tastes great.
Don't you think so, Pikachu?
- Pika!
- Togepi!
- Oh!
It's delicious!
- Yeah,
I wonder where it comes from.
- I'll show you.
both: Huh?
- I think you'll find it
very interesting.
I get the water right here.
[all gasp]
- A lake?
Right under the Pokémon Center?
- But this place is so dry.
How could this happen?
- I can't explain
how it happens,
but I'm very glad it does.
Once every dozen years or so,
the dried-up river bed
that runs right in front
of the Pokémon Center
starts flowing again.
Somehow the water
finds its way down here
and fills up
our underground lake.
- That's really cool!
- It is...
both: [gasp]
- But there's
more to it than that.
- Hey, who is this?
- This is Mr. Gan Gogh.
He's an artist.
- Every years,
I come here to see something
I first saw years ago,
the mysterious rainbow lights.
- The mysterious rainbow lights?
- I was a young man traveling
through the countryside
when I first witnessed
their beauty.
I was instantly captivated.
The colors were strange
and utterly fascinating.
I decided to make a sketch.
Luckily I had crayons
in all the colors
of the rainbow.
Why doesn't it look right?
Seven colors weren't enough
to express what I saw.
years later,
I thought I was ready.
This time I had crayons!
But they still weren't enough
to re-create the variety
of color I saw in the sky.
[sighs]
But this year,
I will not fail!
This year, I have !
both: Wow!
?
- That's one crayon
for every Pokémon!
- Pretty impressive, eh?
This year is finally
going to be different.
This year I'm going to capture
those colors perfectly!
- He's gonna need
all those crayons
to draw the lights
we saw today.
- You saw them!
You saw the colors!
Where did they come from?
Tell me!
- I don't know.
I'm kind of shook up!
[groans]
- Pika-pi!
- Who's that Pokémon?
It's Sunflora!
- Sunflora!
- So you all saw
those lights here.
And then you came over here
to the Pokémon Center.
- That's right.
And it looked
like they were hovering
right over Remoraid Mountain.
- Hmm.
- Right over
Remoraid Mountain.
Well, if you saw the lights
from there,
and Mr. Gan Gogh always watches
the lights from here--
let me see now.
Why, that's Remoraid Lake!
- A lake near here?
- It used to be a lake, Ash.
There's no water there anymore,
of course.
- There's some legend
about that lake.
- That's right, Brock.
There is a legend that says
the Remoraid who lived
in Remoraid Lake
were almost impossible
to capture.
- Hmm, that's really weird,
Nurse Joy.
Why would Remoraid
be harder to catch
than any other kind
of Pokémon?
And how could Water Pokémon
survive for centuries
in a lake
without any water?
- That's a very intelligent
question, young lady,
and we've come here
to answer it for you!
- Yes, we're hot on the trail
of solving that very mystery.
- May I help you?
- We're archeologists
exploring the ruins.
- The Remoraid ruins?
- That's exactly where
we've been all day!
- Oh, this is so exciting!
Have you dug up anything
interesting at the ruins yet?
- Yes, in fact,
just this morning,
we unearthed this mummy
of an ancient Meowth.
- See, it's old and dusty
and dried out.
- That reminds me.
We're a little dusty
and dried out ourselves!
both: We could use a drink!
[both gulping]
Ah! Good!
- Hey, come on.
I want to drink too!
- Uh, maybe a little water
will revive our mummy too!
[both laugh]
- Agh!
Look! They're back!
- Hey!
- It's amazing!
- Just like always!
I've got to hurry
and make my sketch
before they disappear again!
- It's electrifying!
- It's gratifying!
- I'm mummifying!
- Wow, now that we're getting
a good look at it,
it's even more beautiful!
- It sure is.
[all gasp]
- It's disappearing!
- Let's see, I'll start
with the cerulean blue,
or maybe the teal.
Now, where's that
aquamarine crayon?
[groans]
- It's too late.
- I've failed.
- You tried.
- First I didn't have
enough colors.
Then I had too many.
I didn't know
where to begin,
and now the lights are gone.
- There's still hope,
Mr. Gan Gogh.
- Huh?
- Those lights were coming
from directly
above Remoraid Lake,
and if you go there,
you might find out
what's been causing them!
- Yeah, and maybe
we'll even see 'em again!
- We'll go along with you!
- Huh?
- Who knows what new discoveries
we could make there?
- If we dig down far enough,
we can get
to the bottom of this!
- Then I must go
to Remoraid Lake at once.
- It's dry as a Dratini up here.
- Just hang on.
The lake can't be much further.
- Hey, look there.
- Pika!
- More flowers.
- It's getting greener as we go.
The lake should be just past
the top of this ridge.
- It feels more like a fridge
than a ridge.
- The desert's hot
during the day,
but when the sun goes down,
so does the temperature.
Ah-choo!
I'm freezing.
- I'm cozy.
- [gasps]
- Ah.
- This is Remoraid Lake?
- Yep, that's what
the guidebook says.
But it doesn't mention
that tower.
- That thing's
the size of a skyscraper!
- Togepi!
- It looks like
it's made out of crystal.
- Yeah.
- James, do you think
it could be a humungous diamond?
If it is, we'll all be rich!
- Yeah!
[both laugh]
[both gasp]
- It looks like a diamond.
Meowth, what do you think?
- Hmm.
It's freezin'!
- It's just a big icicle.
- So is my tongue.
- It's too bad
it isn't valuable.
- Yeah, and it's too bad
it wasn't fish flavor too.
[groans]
Hey, that thing
could've been poison!
- Well, if it were,
we wanted you
to be the first to know!
[giggles]
- That's considerate!
- So after all that,
it was only a tower of ice
that was causing those lights
in the sky.
- Yeah.
- Too bad.
- Well, that's fine!
If we can't get rich,
at least we'll get that Pikachu!
both: Yeah!
- There must be some connection
between this tower
and the colored lights.
- Hmm.
- Pika! Pika!
[gasps]
- Huh?
Pikachu!
- Pika!
- Well, look
what we've discovered!
- Who are you guys anyway?
- Prepare for trouble.
You know our names!
- Hers is Jessie,
and mine is James!
- To protect the world
from devastation.
- To unite all peoples
within our nation.
- To denounce the evils
of truth and love.
- To extend our reach
to the stars above.
- Jessie!
- James!
- Team Rocket, blast off
at the speed of light!
- Surrender now, or prepare
to fight, fight, fight!
- Meowth, that's right!
- It's Team Rocket!
- Give me back Pikachu!
- Not without a battle,
twerpo!
Go, Arbok!
- Sah!
- If that's how
you want to do it...
- Hold on, Ash.
- Huh?
all: Huh?
- I've waited many years
to discover
what causes
the beautiful colors.
I can't allow you to do anything
that would prevent
this lovely phenomenon.
- Nice speech, grandpa.
Now, why don't you run along
and play
with your box of crayons!
- Yeah, draw me
something lovely!
[all laugh]
- We haven't had to battle
in quite a while, old friend,
but we do now.
- Venusaur!
- A Venusaur!
- That Venusaur
must as old as he is.
Arbok, Tackle Attack it!
- Sah!
- Steady.
- Venusaur!
- Sah!
- Saur!
[all screaming]
- Pika!
Pika-pi!
- The nerve of that Venusaur!
- I say we attack it
all together!
both: Yeah!
- Ugh!
- Solar Beam.
- Venusaur!
Venusaur!
[all screaming]
- [laughs]
- Pika!
- Mr. Gan Gogh,
I didn't know
you used to be
a Pokémon trainer!
- I still am.
As a young man,
I traveled extensively
because I wanted
to capture Pokémon...
until I first saw
the rainbow lights.
That was when I realized
this universe
holds wonders even greater
than the wonders of Pokémon.
- That's kind of hard
to believe, Mr. Gan Gogh.
- From the moment
I saw those colors,
all I wanted to do
was capture them on canvas.
- [gasps]
- Pika.
- Here comes the sun.
- Huh?
Hey, look here!
- Where's the water
coming from?
- There's something moving
down there!
[all gasp]
- Remoraid!
- This sure is a surprise!
[all squealing]
- They're all using
their Water g*n.
- I wonder what they're doing.
[all squealing]
[all gasp]
- Now I get it!
The Remoraid used Water g*n
and Ice Beam
to make that pillar of ice!
- I never thought
so many Water Pokémon
could've lived
in a dried up lake!
- This is the chance
of a lifetime
for a Water Pokémon trainer.
I have to catch one
of these things!
Go, Pokéball!
What happened?
Did I do something wrong?
- So that's how they keep
from getting captured.
A Pokéball can't
catch a whole group!
- That's pretty smart.
- The legend about Remoraid
must be true.
They're difficult to capture
because they all work together
to protect one another.
[all gasp]
[laughter]
- There's more than one way
to catch a Pokémon!
- Why try to capture Remoraid
one at a time
when you can catch
a whole bunch at once?
- Let's haul 'em in!
[all singing]
Here come the Remoraid!
Here come the Remoraid!
- Agh!
- What can we do?
[all singing]
Here come the Remoraid!
Here come the Remoraid!
Here come the Remoraid!
- This isn't fair!
- We're gonna have to save 'em,
Pikachu!
- Pika!
- Don't worry.
- Huh?
- I have a feeling the Remoraid
will be able to get away
from those thieves
very nicely on their own.
[all squealing]
all: Huh?
[screaming]
We're blasting off again!
- Wobba!
- That did it!
- All right!
[peaceful music]
- Look! The sky!
- The lights!
They were coming
from Remoraid Lake all along!
- The water vapor that rises up
from the melting ice
must refract
the rays of the sun,
and that's what creates
the colored lights in the sky!
- So that's it.
The Remoraid created
the beautiful rainbow lights.
- Now I understand
what happened.
The Remoraidians left
when the waters dried up,
but the Remoraid
stayed behind.
They burrowed into the lake bed
and helped each other survive!
Every years,
they use Water g*n and Ice Beam,
flood the dry lake
and rivers,
swim away to replenish
their water supply,
and then come back
to Remoraid Lake.
Maybe someday the water
from these Remoraid
will bring the green back
to the mountains
and get the rivers
flowing again.
- All these years,
I thought
I was searching for wonders
unrelated to Pokémon.
[chuckles]
Turns out I was chasing Pokémon
the whole time!
- You never did get to make
the picture you wanted.
- True.
But sometimes we find things
more valuable
than those we search for.
I only came here
to make a picture
of the beautiful lights I saw.
But I will leave here
with a wonderful experience
that no picture
could ever capture.
- Boy, Pokémon sure are
mysterious, aren't they?
- You can say that again.
- Pikachu!
- And they can be beautiful too.
narrator:
Our friends have witnessed
yet another wonder
of the Pokémon world.
Their journey continues,
and down the road,
more wonders await!
- Let's do it.
[singing]
Born to be a winner
- Johto
- Born to be a champion
Born to be a winner
Born to be the very best
- Pokémon
- Born to be a winner
- Johto
- Born to be a champion
Born to be a winner
Born to be the very best
- Pokémon
- Johto
- Born to be a winner
