05x28 - As Cold as Pryce

Post by bunniefuu »

male narrator: As our heroes
arrive in Mahogany Town,

they come to the end of another
leg of Ash's Johto journey.

And from the looks of it,

he's never been more ready
for a gym battle.

- Yeah, Here I come,

and I'm gonna win
that Glacier Badge.

- Pika.

[singing]
- Pokémon!

- No time to question
my moves

I stick to the path
that I choose

Me and my friends
are gonna do it right

You'll never see us
run away from a fight

To be a master
is my dream

All I've got to do
is believe

- I believe

- I've got a chance
to win

I'm on my way
to victory

- Pokémon!
- I can be a champion

If I just believe

I'm on a master quest

- Master quest

- I want the whole world
to see

- I believe

- I'm gonna be
the very best

'Cause all I've got to do
is believe in me

- Pokémon!

- Hello?
I'm here for my gym battle.

Well?

- There isn't anyone around.

- That doesn't make sense.

- Hey, there.
- Huh?

- Just asking, but are y'all
here for a gym battle?

- Yes, ma'am.

- Sorry, but the gym leader's
not here at the moment.

His name's Pryce,
and I'm Sheila.

Pryce goes up to the mountains
every morning

to meditate underneath
the waterfall.

- Wow, that's impressive

to set aside time
to strengthen your mind.

- You said it.

- Do you think we could
meet him?

- Sure, I'll take you up
to the waterfall myself.

- You really mean it?

- How cool is that?

- Thanks a lot, Sheila.

- Huh?
- Yoo-hoo!

Let's go. Step on it.
Hurry up. Kick it.

- How did she do that?

- I wonder what she had
for breakfast.

- Pika.

- I just knew if we waited
at the gym long enough

they'd show up.

- You're right again, Jess.

- Well, then,
let's tail them.

- Check.
- Check.

- [grunting]

- Whew!

Sheila is one
energetic woman.

- Wait up.

- Please slow down.

- Ha!

Well, I'm just getting
warmed up.

You turtles better
step on the gas!

- I'm out of gas.

- Pika.

- Whoo!
I just love a morning run.

[all groan]
Huh?

- Ow, my legs.

- My knees.

- My everything.
- Togepi.

- Not easy keeping up
with me.

If you want Pryce,
he's over yonder.

- Huh?

- Wait a second.

We met that guy.

- Pika.

- Being friends with Pokémon?

How naive.

Humans and Pokémon are not meant
to become friends.

- I never would've guessed
that old guy is a gym leader.

- He's not only old,
but he's crabby as well.

- Crabby or not, I'm still gonna
ask him for a battle.

- [groaning]

- Well, that's enough exercise
for the rest of my life.

- A twerp, plus one.

- Who's that fella
in the falls?

- Hey, Pryce, this kid wants
a gym battle with you.

- Hi there.

It's an honor to meet the
gym leader from Mahogany Town.

Pryce, I'm Ash from Pallet,

and I'd like to battle you
for a Glacier Badge.

- I remember you.

And I see you still got
your Pikachu out.

- Yeah, Pikachu and I
are really good buddies.

- Pika.
- Ridiculous.

A battle with you
would be pointless.

- What? Why?

How would you even know that
without a battle?

- Simple.

In order to keep one's Pokémon
in top fighting form,

they must always be tense
and on edge.

But if you become emotionally
involved with your Pokémon,

it's that emotion that can cloud
your battling judgment

and cause you to make bad
dumb decisions.

- You're wrong.

Pokémon and humans need

to understand each other
and be good friends

so they can work together
and battle at their best.

- Well, then, I'll just have
to prove you wrong.

Dewgong, go!

- Dewgong.

- Do you really think you can
defeat both of us in battle?

- You mean I can have
a gym battle if we beat you two?

- Correct.
- Great.

Now, let me see.

Got it.

Phanpy's been great lately.

That's who I'll use.

Phanpy, I choose you!

- Phan. Phanpy. Phan.

- Yeah, I knew that Phanpy
would be ready to battle.

- Phan.

- Ash, hold on.

- Yeah, Phanpy's a...

- What?

Phanpy's in tip-top condition
right now.

Phanpy, go.

- Phanpy. Phan.

- All the affection in the world
for one's Pokémon

doesn't mean a thing if you have
no control in battle.

A battle that depends on the
Pokémon's strategy will fail.

- I guess we'll have to put
that theory to the test.

Phanpy, Rollout attack.

- Phan. Phanpy. Phan.

- Go, Ice Beam, now.

- Dewgong-gong-gong.

- Are you okay,
Phanpy?

- Oh, boy.

- Phanpy's a Ground type, Ash.

- Yeah, it's weak against
Ice types like Dewgong.

- Dewgong, return.

Your strategy failed because
of your emotional attachment.

And since you allowed your heart
to do the battling

instead of your brain,
you lost.

- Phanpy, I'm really sorry.

- Do you now see

why a battle with you would be
a waste of your time and mine?

- But, wait!
Hold on, Pryce.

- Ash, it's not safe to go
into these mountains alone.

- Slow down.
Give me another chance.

- Oh, brother.
There he goes again.

- Then, here we go again.

- Right.
- Right.

- Pryce, please slow down
for a second.

[pants]

- Pika!

- Huh?
Pikachu, where'd you go?

- Pika. Pika.

- Yoo-hoo, Jessie.

Hello?

- James, come on,
where are you?

- Stop playing these games.

- Hey, didn't I just hear
Meowth talking?

- I can't see a thing
through these trees.

- Now see this.

Prepare for trouble.

- And make it double.

- Huh?
- Hmm?

- Hello.
- Hi.

- Team Rocket?
- Pika?

- To protect the world
from woodland pests.

- To capture creatures
from their nests.

- To ensnare Pikachu
in my net.

- And anything else
we can get.

- Jessie.
- James.

- Team Rocket grabs the goods
at the speed of light.

- Surrender to me,

give up trying to flee,
or we'll fight.

- Meowth, that's right.

- Wobbuffet.

- You'll never get
my Pikachu.

- Pika, pika!

- Never say never,
my friend.

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

[all scream]

Not part of the plan.

- Peel me off the rock.

- Come on, Pikachu.

Whoa, that's a big drop.

- Pika.

[Jessie chuckles]

- Nowhere to run?

- Now kindly hand over Pikachu
and we'll be on our way.

- [groans]

- Hold it.

What kind of total idiots

would forcibly steal
another's Pokémon?

- Pryce.

- Well, how many kinds
are there?

- Back off.
Mind your own business.

- Besides, we're the smart
kind of idiots.

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

- Weezing, Smoke Screen.

- Pika!
- [coughs]

- Quick, Ash. Come with me.
- Okay.

[all scream]

- Totodile, Noctowl.

- [chirps]

- Noctowl,
take care of Pryce now.

All right, Noctowl!

- Pika!

- Pikachu.
- Pika!

- Go, Totodile.
Water g*n now.

- Pika!

- Totodile.

- Totodile, you okay?

- Pika, pika.

- [chirps]

- Well, it appears to me that
Totodile overused its Water g*n

and depleted
all of its energy.

- You'll be fine, Totodile.

Wake up, Totodile.
Please.

- Well, as good
Team Rocket members,

we should follow them.

- But it's so far down.

- Meowth, you're the one
who told me to give them

the great Weezing smoke-out.

- And would you jump off
a bridge if I told you to, huh?

- Probably not!
- Would too.

- Knock it off.

Act your age
and not your shoe size.

- Team Rocket?
- Huh?

- Why are you three sitting
on a cliff and arguing?

- Did you happen
to see Ash or Pikachu?

both: Us? Of course we haven't.

Toodles!
- Huh? Huh? Me?

I don't know nothing
about no twerp or no Pikachu

or that old man

or that they fell off
this here cliff.

- What, Meowth?

- Uh, got to blast.

- Hey, Ash.

- Pikachu!

- Hey, Pryce.

- Whew, I'd say that sure
is some nasty drop.

- We've gotta go help them.

- Right, but how do we
get down there?

- Hey, there's a small gully
over there

that we can climb down.

- Now it's ready.

Here, Totodile, swallow this.

- [laughs]

- Totodile,
you're feeling better.

- Totodile.

- Awesome.

Thanks, Pryce,
for helping my Totodile.

- Pika, pika.
- Sure.

It was simply a matter of
knowing the right herbs to use.

But, you know,
I should be thanking you

for the way you
and your Pokémon reacted

in a truly stressful scene.

- You're welcome,

but I really owe it all
to Noctowl and Totodile.

The only reason I knew
what to do so quickly

is because we're always playing
together all the time.

- Well, Ash, perhaps you just
might have something there.

But as close as you are to them,
you still have to maintain

strict discipline
in battle.

- He may not look it,
but once upon a time

Pryce was a happy-go-lucky guy.

He always loved to train
and play with his Pokémon.

Why, they were just about as
close as family, maybe closer.

- Wow. What happened?

- Now everyone calls him
"Icy Pryce."

- Why is that?

- He got that nickname
a long time ago

from treating his Pokémon
so icy cold,

and also because he started
specializing in Ice type.

One memory sticks
in my mind.

- What memory?
- Yeah, Sheila, tell us.

- Now, who's going first?
- Huh?

[both laugh nervously]

- Well, I'll go first,

and tell the story
from down there.

Here goes nothing.

Ya-hoo!

- Ah!
- Ah!

- Who's that Pokémon?

It's Magneton.

- Pryce, isn't there some sort
of trail or something

to get out of here?

- I've only been down here
once before.

- Wow.

- It looks to me
like a tunnel was created

when the ground crumbled
and Totodile's Water g*n

must have knocked away the stone
blocking the entryway.

- Pika.
- Huh?

- What's up, Pikachu?

Pikachu sees something.

- Oh, my.

- What's wrong?
Have you seen that thing before?

- Yes, this leg bracelet
once belonged to my Piloswine.

- Wonder how it got here.

- Pika.

- Pryce used to have a Piloswine
that he treated like family,

until one day
it just up and left.

- That's sad.
- Poor guy.

- Since then, Pryce just can't
bear to be close at all

to any of his Pokémon.

- Long ago I was like you, Ash,
and I loved all of my Pokémon

like they were my family.

And we also battled together
heart to heart.

I'm right with you
all the way, Piloswine.

Yeah, let's go.
Take Down now.

Fury attack.

Now show them
your Blizzard.

- [roars]

- [growls]

- Super job.

Piloswine and I battled so well
and so often

that before long we had defeated
every opponent

from miles around.

Things couldn't
have been better.

But one day we were entered
in a national competition.

We were up against Magmar,

which as you know
is a Fire-type Pokémon,

putting Piloswine
at a disadvantage.

- Ha.
Raring to go, eh, Piloswine?

Take Down, let's go.

- Flamethrower.

- Ah! Piloswine.

- Now, finish it off
with Fire Blast.

- Piloswine! Oh, no!

[screams]

Not only did we lose
the match,

but I was burned over most
of my body and in great pain.

I'm sorry, Piloswine.

[door opens, wind gusts]

- What?

Piloswine, where are you going?
Come back.

I tried to protect you,
and this is how you say thanks?

By just leaving me
all alone?

Why, Piloswine, why?

[sobs]

Piloswine!

From then on I stopped treating
Pokémon as friends

and my time with them
was business, and that's all.

And that's when people kindly
gave me the nickname

of Icy Pryce.

- Sorry.

- Pika.

- Enough of this.
Let's get going.

- I just can't understand it.

Why would your Piloswine's
leg bracelet

be all the way down here?

- Hmm.
- Look.

Pryce, there's light coming
from down there.

- Great, let's go find a place
where we can climb out of here.

- Okay.

Oh, whoa.

- Pika.

- These rocks are covered
with a thin layer of ice,

which makes them sparkle
like crystal.

- It's not gonna be very easy

climbing up
these slippery rocks.

- Huh?
- Huh?

Looks like there's something
frozen inside that ice.

- Can't be.

- Can't be what?

Oh!

- [gasps and sighs]

It's my Piloswine.

- What?

Pryce, are you sure?

- Pika.

- Hmm?

It's holding something.

- Why, that's one of the herbs
that's used for healing burns.

- Hey, I know.

Piloswine must have known
that these herbs would help you,

and came here to get them...

but got into trouble
on its way back.

- [wails]

- You did all this
just for me?

- Hey, you know what?

Piloswine didn't leave you,
it went to help you.

- [gasps]

I'm sorry.

I should have known it.

Please forgive me,
my friend.

I'm so, so sorry.

Piloswine!

[sobs]

- Hey, Pryce,

I think we should work on
getting your Piloswine

out of that ice.

Cyndaquil,
Flamethrower.

- Cyndaquil!

All right! Good work.

Pikachu, now use
Thunder Shock.

- Pika.

Pikachu.

- Pikachu, stronger.

- Pikachu!

- It's not working.

- You tried.

After all, Piloswine's been
frozen for a long, long time.

- I won't give up.

Huh?
- Huh?

- [sniffs]

[groans]

- All right.
Piloswine is waking up.

- Pika.

- Oh, my.

Piloswine, it's me.
Remember?

- [snorts and grunts]

- Oh, even after all of these
long and lonely years,

you mean to say
you still remember me?

Then it's true!

Real friendships
do go on and on forever.

- [grunts]

- [laughs]

Right, Pikachu?
- Pikachu.

- [grunting]

- Huh?
- What's wrong?

- Ah, not feeling
quite up to snuff, are you?

Let's use Rest.

- What's Rest?

- Piloswine has the ability
to restore its energy.

It's going to be just fine.

- Wow, cool. That's great.

- [groans]

- Hey, Pryce.

- Ash!

- Where are you?

Ash?

- Hey.

- There's Ash.

- Are you all okay, Pryce?

- Great. We're just great.

And look, my Piloswine's okay
as well.

- [grunts]

- Oh! Well, I'll be.

- Is that the same one
you were telling us about?

Piloswine do you remember
your old pal?

It's me, Sheila.
Do you remember?

This is great.
It's just a miracle.

- Yes, it truly is.

- Hello?

- The real miracle is that we
haven't captured Pikachu yet.

- So prepare for another...

- Miracle on ice.

- Team Rocket!

- Go, Arbok.

- Weezing.

- Weezing.

- Stop!

My Piloswine owes
its life to Pikachu.

Think you can steal it,
you got to go through me first.

- Well, well.
The little old man's got spunk.

Arbok, go get him.

- You too, Weezing.

- Oh, yeah.
Ready for this, Piloswine?

All right,
now use Take Down.

- Fury attack. Go!

- [grunting angrily]

- Yes. That's showing them.

- Wow.

- Talk about your déjà vu.

I feel like I've gone
back in time.

- We will not be beat.

- Put more pride
in your stride.

- Ha! And now Blizzard.

- [roaring]

- Now Pikachu, Thunderbolt.
Let's go.

- Pika!

[all scream]

- Looks like Team Rocket's
blasting off again!

- Yeah, Pikachu.

- Pikachu.

- Hmm. I declare.

[all chatter and laugh]

- I've gotta
ask again, Pryce.

Please let me battle you.

You just have to.

- I'm sorry.

- Huh? Why?

- I think we've all had enough
excitement for one day.

Why don't you get a good night's
sleep at the Pokémon Center

and come see me tomorrow.

- Yeah, and if I do,
then you'll battle with me?

- You bet.

- All right!

- That's so cool.

- Good luck.

- Thanks. Badge seven.

- Pika.

narrator: Now with Ash
just one night's sleep away

from his Mahogany gym battle,
it's sure to be a restless one,

knowing that Pryce
is a tough opponent.

Will Ash win the badge
he's worked so hard for?

Stay tuned.

[singing]
- No time to question my moves

I stick to the path
that I choose

Me and my friends
are gonna do it right

To be a master
