at the Mahogany Gym

where Ash was hoping to earn
his seventh badge,

our heroes introduced
themselves to Pryce,

the gym leader.

When Ash requested a gym battle
Pryce bitterly refused,

telling Ash he was
too emotionally involved

with his Pokémon
to pose a worthwhile challenge.

But when Ash's bravery,

quick thinking,
and Pokémon prowess

saved Pryce's life

and later reunited him
with his beloved Piloswine,

the bitterness that had once
hardened his heart

melted away in gratitude.

So when Ash once again asked
Pryce for that gym battle,

he was finally
granted his wish.

Pokémon on either side

The challenger is allowed
to use a substitute Pokémon

when necessary,
but the gym leader is not.

that pool.

- So he's beginning

Dewgong's under the water.

He wants Cyndaquil
to go underwater.

- I guess Ash is going
for a close-range quick attack.

- But what if he's wrong?

Can Cyndaquil move around well
underwater?

- Quil!

- I'll say this:

I have a lot of respect
for Ash's originality.

but this time
his strategy is off.

Dewgong, use Headbutt.

- Dewgong.

- Look out, Cyndaquil.

With that horn
on Dewgong's head,

its Headbutt could cause
a lot more damage.

- And Dewgong's swimming super
fast and right at Cyndaquil.

Dewgong thinks the battle's

and swimming
way too close.

Let's go.

- Cyndaquil!

- Dewgong!

- Cyndaquil, finish it
with Flamethrower.

- Quil!

- Dewgong!

- Dewgong is unable to battle.

on that one.

Pryce knew that Cyndaquil
isn't very agile underwater,

and so he had Dewgong come in
for an attack at close range.

But once Dewgong got within
striking distance,

Ash picked the perfect moment

for Cyndaquil to launch
a powerful Swift attack.

- You did a great job,
my friend.

I can see in order for attacks
like that to work,

there must be complete trust
between trainer and Pokémon.

And, Ash, it's obvious to me
that you have that

with all of your Pokémon.

Enough of that.
Let's move on.

Piloswine, go.

- [lowing]

- All right.

I knew I'd be seeing you.

Now, let's go,
Cyndaquil.

- Cynda!

- [chuckles]

How sweet.

What those sleeping Ice beauties
don't suspect

is that soon they'll all
be swiped.

- Sweet.

We've got more ices
to choose from

than a Slurpee stand.

maybe we should set aside
a portion of them for ourselves.

Poké-sicles

to bring to the boss,

but then we keep the ones
we like best for us.

ice cream.

- We'll set up our first stand
near Cianwood Beach,

where all the sun
and fun seekers flock.

Then we'll plunge our profits
into more and more places

until we create a chain
that crushes the competition.

- Yeah. Show me the money.

- Out of the red
and into the black.

- And as soon as the boss
sees how swiftly

we've settled our dues debt,

he'll bounce us right back up
to the tip-top of the Team heap.

- [giggles]

all: I scream, you scream,
we all scream for ice cream.

- [roars]

- Pikachu, Thunder attack.

- [lows]

one bit.

- All Thunder did was stop
Piloswine's Blizzard.

- What's my next move
gonna be?

- Pika!

Those ice pillars.

It just might work.

Yeah, let's go, Pikachu.

you gotta strike first.

that those speed attacks
are useless here.

and use Blizzard.

- [grunts]

- Slide away to dodge it.

right under Piloswine.

That's slick thinking.

- Don't let Pikachu go.

- I get it. Ash and Pikachu
are using those ice pillars

like they're playing
bumper pool.

So the quicker
Pikachu slides around,

the easier it is
to change direction.

- Now use your Blizzard attack
on the entire field, Piloswine.

- [howling]

- Slide right under it again,
Pikachu.

- Pika!

- Now, Pikachu, Thunder.

- Pikachu!

- Ah! Piloswine.

- It's really working.

- Okay. Rest, Piloswine.

- [groans]

Piloswine is gaining back energy
by using Rest.

- Not if I can stop it first.

- Looks like Piloswine's
back up to full power.

- Piloswine may be getting
stronger, but Pikachu's not.

has the strength to keep going.

the towel, Ash?

- Pikachu, do you feel okay
to go on?

- Pika.

- Yeah. We're back.

And we still have a chance
to win this one.

- He's a brave trainer.

know when to accept his defeat

and bow out gracefully.

the attacks.

is totally exhausted.

Those Thunder attacks
really took their toll.

- Yeah, but take a look
at Piloswine.

It looks like
it can still battle.
